Tailing the Komets

Doesn't this team drive you crazy?

They bomb Evansville 5-1 the night after losing 2-1 in overtime. After going 15-4, they go 1-3-1 and give up 5 goals per game while scoring 2. Even if they won the last 10 games of the season, how confident would you feel going into the playoffs?

They were all over the IceMen tonight. The first two periods played out like it was a Fort Wayne power play the whole time because they were so dominating. How can they play that well in spurts and then get beat by Dayton 8-0 or by Bloomington 6-2? Do you think those two teams are that good? No wa

Yes they will make you drink, but they go as good as the first line goes. Nice to see Curdy get a couple tonight

Rathchuk, Schrock and A-Pod. I love watching those guys fly around the ice. Hope they are back next year. Why can't we always have a man camped in front of the crease when we are attacking? Seems like we played that way in past seasons. But then again I'm not a hard core hockey fan. I just think playing low and to the side is a waste of time. Enjoyed the game today. The third period was an exercise in futility though. Boring!

Wait for it... in the playoffs the veterans MIGHT be a good thing.
To some extent I am glad they have some guys that have been through the playoff wars and know what it takes to go all the way....
That being said a couple of questions...
Are they motivated to go all the way and how will a potential four round playoff which is much more of a grind than the regular season wear on their 30+ guys who have been used to only two rounds.

As unpredictable as this team has been all year, I don't see them winning one playoff game. Especially if they play a high seeded team.

They were picking on Schrock tonight....must have known about injury....still would have liked someone to have given some payback for Frankie...
All said & done, still not a good week for the home team. Seems like team is feeling pressure again, playin' tight...
Would love to see to see Leo between A-Pod & Rad on wing... + let them fly...

It's a matter of something called "GIVE-A-DAMN" which they've been guilty of NOT having for large stretches of two seasons now. And, it's why I'll not be a season ticket holder again until a bunch of the coaters are gone.

They play hard only when they WANT too and then coast when they feel they can...because it's worked in the past. even though we won it all last year, I've still not forgiven them for not winning the regular season title. Too many "nights off" and come-from-ahead-to-lose performances against the Dayton's and the like.

Tonight, we saw (or, maybe YOU saw, I stayed home) the final score we should have had against the Icemen...ALL...YEAR! They're NOT a good club and we should have blown them out in at least 75% of the games against them!

I have REAL mixed emotions about this coming weekend. if we go out west and get hammered, then we are what our record shows. However, if we go out there and play even with those guys or even win big...then it justifies everything that's been said about this team; it's work effort; and the lack of ability to motivate them from the coaching staff on up.

Personally, most nights, I'd trade a bunch of our "talent" for youthful "effort".

By-the-way...all the comments about how our play and record have changed since someone came off the DL...maybe should be aimed at someone else, instead of Warner. Just a thought. For all his faults...I can't say I see BW coasting out there most nights.

PS - Frank...I can't think of the last Komet team/coach who actually put someone in the slot on a regular basis.

Who were those guys? It wasn't a perfect game but Evansville definitely seemed to be chasing the Ks around all game long. The first goal on the 3 on 1 was brilliant... about the last thing I expected was LaPointe passing right back to Curadeau, and it seemed their keeper didn't see that coming either. Laughed out loud When Larocque missed the wide open net on a 2 on 1. Pretty much everything went the Ks way.

Maybe it's my fault. I can only make it to about a game a week, and the last game I made it to was Quad City. Guess we'll find out this coming weekend if I returned the mojo I didn't realize I took with me. As much as I might like to, making it out to Colorado and Rapid City is out of the question.

I thought Mirasty wasn't on IR? He was, then he wasn't, what's the story?

No one wants to fight Mirasty so i think he stays on ir for at least this weekend to see how the road games go. If they play rough and dirty then he might be back for remaining home games. Quess we will see. GO KOMETS!!!!

The third period last night was an indicator of the season. After playing decent hockey for two periods the Komets slipped and went into a non-aggressive, defensive mode. The K's were out shot 15-6 and were just lucky that they didn't give up any goals. Consistency is the key, and, unfortunately, the Komets just don't have it this year. From game to game and period to period you never know which team is going to show up. Come playoff time the problems created by this Jeckyl/Hyde personality could be devastating.

Columbus has called up a forward from Springfield. Anybody got any idea on how this will affect Ratchuk?

Komets looked about as good last night as any game I have seen this season.

Danko and Mirasty due to come off IR. If Ratchuk is not called up and no more injuries occur, then I think Mironovic will go. Sorry to his fans but I just don't trust his passing or decision making. Kind of sounds like another player we have, doesn't it? At least he can shoot the puck.

JungleMonkey
Mon, 03/07/2011 - 11:07am

You mean the guy that turns the puck over on the PP and refuses to stay at the point.. thus turning PC Drouin into the lone "defenseman" on 2 on 1 breakaways?

PC didn't have a strong night handling the puck either.

Lardner has proven to be the teams MVP.

I really think that Mirasty should see some action in Colorado and Rapid City. Without him there isn't anyone on this team to take up for our guys. Schrock and Cescon don't need to be fighting. I think resting a vertern forward so he has 100% fresh legs for the playoffs could prove to be a wise move. Maybe the same with a defensman if Frankie can come back.

Who were you thinking, caprad?

I pretty much agree with you, Alan.

I know some will disagree, but Ratchuk plays hard every second he's on the ice, handles the puck and skates better than several of our forwards, and is just all-out a blast to watch on the ice. Granted, he is not perfect, but I am glad he's here and see him as a major asset to this team. Part of me just wishes he could've been here when the team was consistent and out for blood.

P.C. wasn't at his best last night passing the puck, that's for sure. Interesting thought about resting a veteran forward as we get closer to the playoffs.

I thought Podshendyalov played a pretty nice game. That guy can really handle the puck, has great quickness, and doesn't seem to panic with the puck. Whatever defensive shortcomings he may have will only get better with more playing time.

I find myself rooting hard for Ratchuk and Podshendyalov to score.

Good to see Curadeau and Lardner get two goals each. That first goal was just a thing of beauty. ( Where would we be without Lardner?) A cash transaction provides the K's with their leading goal scorer! I'm not sure about Thomas. Someone needs to pump him up and get him going again. He doesn't look or act as if he's having fun, although he was real excited when he scored the overtime game winner.

I like the way Lapointe and Chaulk are handling the faceoff duties. I wish Chaulk would shoot more. The K's need Shrock to heal up and sometimes I think O'Connor is the best guy on the ice and then other times he seems to disappear.

I wish someone could give us a report on DeAngelis. Concussions are tricky and I'm wondering if his symptoms are improving.

Finally, a shout-out to Cescon. Vertigo can be real serious and no matter if the Doctor cleared him or not, it probably would've been better to skip last night's game and had a whole week of rest. You gotta like his spirit to want to play.

Great post Alan. Pods is still so young, he has time to learn defence, it will come. Same with Ratchuk. Their speed will serve them well when they get it figured out.
It is like Jack Nicklaus saying "learn to hit the ball far then worry about straight".
I still think you need balance when the offensive minded guys are on the ice. Have a two way winger on the other side. Make sure at least one of the D is the stay at home type. Don't put the player in the position to fail. Hey everyone gets scored on. You have to be concerned with your own end. But there are five guys on the ice. Communicate and understand your role every shift.
Ditto on Cescon. Take care. We need that guy.

my guess is the coach doesn't want that kind of play on his resume'..... the coach & GM need to get on the same page...

Again, with this team it is like real estate.....location, location, location......we they WANT to play inside the dots, on both ends, they will wins 80% of their games....if not, 30%

Never could figure out why a "Christian" would hit a player named DeAngelis (of the angels) so hard.

Very good points, Mike in Toronto. When a team takes care of the defensive zone the game becomes a lot more manageable.

Just thinking a minute here about something...I don't remember a season in which the Komets gave up so many breakaways or two on ones as the K's have this year on their power play.
