Tailing the Komets

Down the stretch

There are 23 games left in the regular season. The Komets need to win 21 of those games to reach 50 for the third year in a row. They need 38 of a possible 46 points to reach 100.

Anyone think they can reach one or both of those?

Should the Komets hit the 100 point mark this season I would say it would be safe to say that they 'qualify' as a threat in the playoffs.

It doesnt really matter to me if the Komets get 50 wins or they get 100 points..I'd just like to see the Komets playing well going into the playoffs..if they are doing that anything can happen after that...

The Komets will finish with 45 wins. You heard it here first!

I'm counting on them to win the majority of games -- its up to the team, but as a fan i know they can do it, i just hope they want it as much as this fan.

i would look at playoff positioning.

i would like to see Rockford and Quad city go at it in the first round, after that series i think the winner will be tired and battered, i also think between those two teams it would be a toss up. Quad city will be sick of losing to them all season and they will have their last shot to inflict a little suffering.

i'd like to see motor city and muskegon in the first round as well, i think it would be physical, go the distance and the winner a little battered.

These 4 teams could mix it up as far as who plays who:

K-zoo - Adirondack nice long bus rides will not help anyone.

Komets - Danbury We need to play OUR game.

On the other hand the two east coasters could go at it and K-zoo Ft Wayne could go at it. both series would go the distance and the survivor would move on, edge here to Komets and Danbury.

The more i look at this blog, whoever comes out and hits (and its got to be the dogs), knocks the other team into the boards and plays a full game, each game will be first round winners, whoever carries that into the second round is in the championship round.

I don't think Richmond will be in the picture, i just listed the playoff seeds for my reference.

1 Rockford
2 Muskegon
3 Danbury
4 Kalamazoo
5 Adirondack
6 Fort Wayne
7 Motor City
8 Richmond
9 Quad City

Oh and P.S. if certain officials show up we as fans may all be disappointed.

Good stuff, Burgee.

Here is my question.
Are they going to get stuck getting a screwy schedule again because of a flea collar show or a midget wrestling convention that was previously booked? Last year I believe that mess cost the team in the finals even though they were worn out from the Rockford series (still one of the best playoff series I have ever seen at any level)

I am hoping for this at the end of the year:

1)Muskegon vs 8)Quad City
2)Rockford vs 7)Motor City
3)Danbury vs 6)Adirondack
4)Kalamazoo vs 5)Fort Wayne

Here are my reasons for this:
1) We have been playing very well against Kalamazoo of late.
2) We DON"T match up well at all against Danbury.
3) We can see all 7 games of the FW/KZOO series because K-zoo is only an hour and a half away.

My prime matchups for the K's in the first round would be Adirondack or Kalamazoo.

No offense burgee but I don't see the Rockford-Quad City series a tough series for Rockford. They have way to many tough guys that are very talented. Quad City has no real toughness nor the ability to keep up with Rockford. Alot of there guys will or should be at the next level next year. But don't count out Richmond. They have a much easier schedule then Quad city. Plus Quad City is playing really bad hockey.

To add a little more to the Quad City-Richmond thing:

1) Quad City has 4 games or more against the Komets, Muskegon, and Rockford. The Rest are against teams ahead of them except 2 or more agains Missouri.

2) Richmond plays 1 game against the Komets and Rockford. They have 1 or 2 against Adirondack and Danbury. The rest they play the Likes of Roanoke, Elmira and Missouri. They play 5 against Roanoake and Elmira. They in a way have it more easier then Quad City.

3) If anyone cares I saw where Summerfield was waived by Roanoke (thats pretty bad considering they have been playing 3 players short the last few games)

If the Komets continue to play well, I think 45-48 wins and about 95 points in the standings. My biggest hope is that they can earn a #4 seed to have home ice for majority of playoffs. They are really beginning to peak at the right time. Keep it going, guys!

LOL your right Blake perhaps my comment wasn't too newsbreaking....I guess I was thinking more along the lines of those who conistantly put down the K's and say they aren't playoff material....K's still have a chance of hitting 100 points and despite how they got there, 100 points is (for obvious reason) enough of a reason to be considered a top contender.....well I think I'm just making some more 'obvious' talk here so...

I agree with Mark and Bob. I don't really care if the K's get 50 wins or 100 points. What matters is getting into the playoffs. Home ice advantage has not been a big factor this season either. In fact, they've been playing better on the road than at home, unfortunately for us fans. Like was said though, anything can happen in the playoffs and the K's are beginning to peak at just the right time. We should be in good shape by the time playoffs arrive. Go K's!!!

I just hope that they dont have to work too hard during the regular season and are drained come playoff time...Of course, in the past we have kinda slid into the playoffs in cruise control and lost our edge. Hopefully the rockfords,k-zoo, and fury's of the league arent ready for a team thats been playing playoff hockey since about december and will lay an egg against the K's(this years team you dont wanna play come playoff time)....

I'm not to sure of the 50/100 thing..what I am sure of is when the Komets get to the playoff's - WATCH OUT! LOL! I think we have been playing more consistantly lately and have found the niche - so with that and having 23 more games to play! Come playoff time the guys will ROCK THE JUNGLE on home ice- and when they are on the road -WE- will bring the JUNGLE to them! Go Komets!

This is totally random, but I just found this on the UHL transaction page:

Roanoke Valley Vipers
*Garrett Summerfield (LW) Placed on waivers

What is the deal? The poor guy can't get a job.

And in reference to what Nanci said above... everybody should definitely join the Booster Club: kometsboosterclub@yahoo.com :)

Going to be a rough go if we do not start getting a few more healthy bodies in here.

When do we start to see the wave of college kids coming in for a look? Seems like the big boys are loading up by signing guys for p-nuts and we are pinning our hopes on a few diamonds in the rough from Peoria State Community College.
