DSANI Buddy Walk approaching

The 11th annual Down Syndrome Association of Northeast Indiana Buddy Walk will be held Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. at Foster Park. It's a 2.1-mile walk of approximately 1,500 people, including Komets captain Guy Dupuis and his family. That's Guy's picture with his son Matthew. Several of the Komets will also be taking part along with Leonardo, ICY, Mayor Tom Henry, Fort Wayne Firefighters, ICY, Premiere Dance Company, IPFW cheerleaders, several area mascots. Again, ICY. There are more than 350,000 individual in the United States with Down Syndrome. The Dupuis team is called "Matthew's Mates." Fort Wayne citizens generated more than $70,000 last year.

Besides Guy, can you be more specific about who these "several other Komets" are? I tried typing in a couple of the usual suspects, but the searches came up empty.

Does it really matter who the other Komets are? Are you only going to support this event if your favorite players will be there for you to rub elbows with?

Pretty good point, Game. It's a good cause. I do a lot of leukemia runs and it feels good to be helping out a good cause, celebrity appearances or not.

Wendy, I will try to find out. If I recall, last year it was all the guys who basically live in Fort Wayne during the off-season with a few others who came in early to skate.

Geez, GM, just curious. I don't "rub elbows". After what you guys said before, I'd have serious misgivings about it anyway. In any case, thanks Blake. Very kind of you. :)

Wendy-If you set in the penalty box you will be rubbing elbows and a whole lot of other things. I do understand your curiosity. If anyone can find out our "Leader" will.

Wendy, were you thinking of walking? I had thought about it too. Guy's little man sure looks sweet. I'm sure if Jason does not have a game that morning we might be able to do that....is that a Saturday? Yep....shoot....count us out. We're booked every weekend now thru December. Gotta love hockey season! I do, but this is my life now for the rest of my life!! At least I'm in town....wait until travel hockey starts....then I won't even know where I am!

"... rubbing elbows and a whole lot of other things" eh? Just remember that you said it, not me! ;)

BLB, I could walk it. Heck, I could run it. I'm jogging about 45 minutes a night right now. But it sounds to me like they are more interested in attracting sponsors than in attracting participants -- especially participants like myself who don't really know anyone to sponsor them. It is a fundraiser, after all.

Wendy, they do not know yet who will be appearing from the Komets. It will likely be a last few days kind of thing.
