P.C. sat out tonight with a minor injury, and the Komets didn't seem to miss him. How bad has Port Huron become? A pair of too many men penalties? Scott Hay should sue for non-support. He sure is fun to watch though.
How about the hit by Guinn? Anybody else think it was a clean hit? About as good an open-ice check as you are going to see. And kudos for Carpentier for getting the roughing call in the third standing up for a teammate.
At this point, would you still try to make a trade? Anything you trade for now is going to cost big-time in terms of what the other teams are going to want in return. Offensively, the Komets have scored almost five goals per game over their last 20 games, defensively they've been much more solid.
Granted, Roanoke and Port Huron are obviously hurting and weren't much of a threat, but I'm not sure I would make a trade right now unless the price was absolutely perfect. There are two reasons: Why mess with the chemistry which is so solid right now, and can you really get the ultimate piece you might need that makes it worth it disrupting everything again with 21 games left?
I don't think I'd change a thing. What do you think?

Hay made some nice saves. We could have easily scored 7 goals tonight. Props to the Komets for giving him the third star tonight. Guinn's hit was great, nothing illegal at all. You don't see open ice hits very much anymore, so I think it's a reaction by the referees to call a penalty. He didn't use any part of his knee at all. He sorta lowered his shoulder and Dix fell hard. It wasn't the only time he fell hard though, Galbraith body slammed him to the ice for an obvious penalty. As far as trades or anything, I don't see why they would need to do anything else, we have a good core of players out there and could do some damage come playoff time. Let's hope they keep rolling.
Another great W for the K's and Galbraith has really step it up after a very slow start. I was one who was very disappointed with him, but give the guy credit for really playing some great hockey. Playing with Chaulk and Goodwin has helped him. He has got 40 pts on the year and only a -7, which at one time was like -18 and one of the worst on the team. As far as trades go, yes if we could get Littlejohn from Missouri. Why, because he can score goals, is a power forward, and tough. He is the type of playoff player who would help us now and in the play-offs.
Yes, but David, what would you be willing to give up? That's the key. Right now that price might be very high.
I'm not sure the price would be very high to get a guy from the lower placed teams that are out of the playoff hunt. We could probably deal a certain cash amount to Roanoke, Port Huron, or Missouri to get somebody.
If it aint broke dont fix it. The K's have really turned it around over the last couple of months and I dont know if I'd mess with it barring a big injury in the next couple of weeks....
I would be willing to give up a Rumble or Carpenterie, but there is no way that will happen.

We could have scored a lot more goals this weekend, we had a lot of almosts.
before the weekend i told the kids both nights 7-0 wins. i didn't expect that many goals out of the vipers and was real disappointed with the flags goal, we handed them that goal and blew the shutout.
Adding depth with some college boys will help in the "Draft". I would stay the same, but then again i am just a fan and only see the games, a lot more goes into team planning than watching the games.
Wild thing, chaulker and goodie are on fire. I'd like to see lucie step it up a little, i think he is a great player, was glad we got him, has the potential to be a scoring/team leader and we'll need him to snare the cup. Come on lucie, i'm counting on you.
AS far as wiggens, the trade woke him up and everytime i have seen him since he has been hustling. Wish he would have been on fire at the begining of the year, i liked the kid, but i think the trade, in his case, was the right thing to do.
i'm ready for next weekend, here ducky ducky ducky. Somebody get wild thing his Duck stamp for his hunting License, cause we're eatin mallard all weekend! Oh and Port Huron, don't count on scoring next weekend!
The Komets are winning but look at the competition they are playing. We have better players than Roanoke and Port Huron. We should win.
The Komets don't have any good rivalries in the UHL. I was bored at the Saturday night game and asked myself if this level of hockey is worth the price. Does anyone else feel the same way?
I feel that it's worth it. And if you love watching 'live' hockey you don't have a choice. Another thing, I really enjoy watching Chaulk play hockey. They way he handles the puck and the way he uses his body..to steer the puck while wrapping around a man or the back of the net! 50/50 on when he loses it/or shoots. I like watching the guy play...
Saturday nights game was worth the trip. Much better than what I saw earlier on in the season. 3 hour drives are much nicer after a win ;-)
I would not mess with chemistry right now unless you can get someone for cash. Sending a player away right now, even if for a better player might be more disruptive than good. Do you really want to bring in a guy who has been beat up by losing all year this late into the season. Sure it is possible the guy might be hungry and grateful to play for a winner. But it is also possible they could become a cancer to the lockeroom. Is it worth the risk?
Blake, I know we talked about injured players a couple of weeks ago and when to stop the game, but in the Flags game there was a PH player that went down in front of his bench. A player thought he would be able to make it into the door, so he jumped on the ice to help out on defence. After the Komets scoring chance was over (I remembered the rule from last time we posted it) and the ref blew the play dead for the injured player to be helped off the ice, there were five players and the injured player on the ice. Shouldn't that have been a "too many men" call?

That is exactly why I'm a huge Chaulk fan, he is awesome on the puck, probably one of the best puck handlers I've seen. That line will play well as Chaulk plays well...

I have no idea, Hoss. Again, I think it was referee's discretion with a player they thought was seriously hurt. From where I was standing, it looked like something serious, plus the game was over.
Blake and all, in that situation the official has the choice to call it a penalty or not. The thought is, in that situation if no advantage is gained, you give the team with the puck the chance to score and then blow it.
Now one could argue the injury should have resulted in a 5 on 4 and of course if the guy would have been down in the middle of the ice and an extra guy came out you certainly call it. I think the official made the correct call for the situation.
As for the Guinn hit, it has been a point of emphasis at all levels of hockey in the last couple of years to call anything that resembles kneeing because it has resulted in too many season and career ending injuries. In this case, the official could have called a match penalty if he felt Guinn was trying to injure. I again think it was the proper call for the situation. The hit itself though was beautiful to watch.
All in all I think that was a nicely officiated game.

There is a small concern I have as alot of production coming from the same sources which is great but also can hurt us if the 10 goal bandits don't start chipping in some goals. There were quite a few times a few of these guys coulda/shoulda had a goal.
Been playing a few little sisters of the poor squads lately so things look all rosey. I will say the play has been fantastic the last few home games. The K's did not play down to their competition. I still say you make the move if it improves your team but only if your not destroying something else. Getting a Littlejohn type guy would be a step up for sure.

I think Scott Hay is my favorite goalie in the UHL to watch. Port Huron stinks, but man is he sharp.

I thought the Guinn hit was a knee. I don't think it was intentional. If you hit a guy with your shoulder or hip, you are going to catch enough of him so that he doesn't do a 360 before hitting the ice. I'd bet that if you asked Mondalak, he called a penalty because of Dix' spinning reaction to the contact.
I talked to Guinner today and he said it was pure shoulder but he thinks the ref saw it out of the corner of his eye and called it more on the result than the hit.
Pull the trigger on any deal that makes us better. Remember how much Cabana made a difference for us a couple of years back during our championship year as he added toughness and some scoring. I think if someone like him or a Bobby Stewart type comes along for cash, or for a harmless trade, meaning not breaking up the main core of players, go for it! I think the team is doing great. Hockey is much more fun now than it was, say 2 or 3 months ago. Galbraith is playing great. This is the guy that was advertised finally, that I griped about for not being for weeks. I'll give him credit. He is playing huge right now. I love his desire for making plays. I do think that Chaulk and Goodwin playing on the same line with him does make a huge difference. Keep it up, let's take the cup!!!
