Tailing the Komets

Evansville 1-0 after one

Braden Desmet got WAY behind Guy Dupuis and Craig Cescon for a breakaway three minutes in to give the IceMen a 1-0 lead. Komets had a 1:33 2-man advantage at the end of the period and had three shots on goal and nothing close to scoring.

If a blog aggravates anyone that much, that person either has no life, doesn't understand the point of a blog, or both. Discussing/arguing opinions is one thing, but getting aggravated over them... well, that's a bit sad.

Talking about the game and arguing with those you sit with at the games (all of whom I consider close friends) makes the game fun and helps you look at things you don't always see.

I heard last night about 30 times he is "Magic".....

I was beginning to wonder if he played for the Lakers too.

Count me in as #11. I was nodding off at the game, but that sure was an awesome ending to the game.

Almost 40 posts and we have yet to talk about the interview (link posted above) in the QC Times about the CHL commisioner's personal opinion that merging with the ECHL might make some sense.....

JR1, Ive heard this for years now. While I think it would be great for minor league hockey, it's something I will believe when it's official.

JR1

Komets, Bloomy, Quad City, K-Zoo, Toledo, Chicago, Cincy, Dayton, E-ville, Missouri.....would make one fine looking midwest division of a merged "AA" hockey league...

GM, I agree; but I also heard from somewhere else that this could happen as soon as for next season, so I cant dismiss as easily now that the CHL commish is speculating on it...

Plus the only person who didn't get a BS line about the IHL....a Franke said to at least 2 reporters "We have no interest in bringing back the IHL with less than 10 teams...."

.....Is on record here saying that the IHL will be back after the 2 year CHL deal.

If the CHL and ECHL are working together....or decide to entertain the idea of working together.....

Does the IHL go full speed ahead with their not "immediate future" plans???

Or does the CHL/ECHL let the Frankes name the Midwest Division the IHL division?

I really hope it does happen and soon. Minor leaguer hockey is on very shaky ground to say the least. If hockey can get back to it's roots and play other teams within driving range for fans and where every team can have a real rival, that would be a great step in the right direction.

I think a merger makes all the sense in the world... I think the Komets would be nuts not to fully embrace something like this, especially if there was a division heavy schedule... If the "midwest" division was something similar to what I posted above, this works. Play 60 of 70 (or whatever) game schedule in division with 2, 5 game road trips out of division... Obviously there would have to be other consessions from both sides; but hockey needs to get to a 30-30-30 type of setup...

Bob

JR1, That would make a rather nice sized division. If you have those teams and perhaps another division with teams like Rapid City, Tulsa, Missouri, and maybe a few others in that geographical area it would reduce travel costs, and still have enough teams so you don't play the same 5-6 teams 14+ times a year.

Have each division make only one or two trips into the other division during the regular season....otherwise stay in your own division. I would like to see a 70 game season with about 50-55 of those within your division. Of course, it depends on which cities are involved in this arrangement.

A Kalamazoo fan floated these out there as possible divisions in a merged AA league (he did not count any Texas teams due to the current rumors of most leaving to join the NAHL ranks...)

1.Kalamazoo,Fort Wayne,Bloomington,Toledo,Cinncinati,Chicago,Quad City,Evansville,Dayton,Elmira,Reading,Trenton (12 teams)

2. Florida,Gwinett,Greenville,Columbia,Mississippi,Missourri,Tulsa,Wichita,Bossier ?? (9 teams)

3. Idaho,Ontario,Victoria,Alaska,Rapid City,Arizona,Colorado,Stockton,Utah,Las Vegas ( 10 teams)

Those look good for starters....

It's something worth looking into. The economy and these high ($3.55) fuel prices are going to force the teams and leagues into making some type of change.
