Tailing the Komets

Everybody needs friends

Expansion draft for Bloomington and dispersal draft tomorrow for Roanoke, Motor City and Missouri at least and possibly Adirondack. It's awful quiet on the Frostbite front. Who would you like to see the Komets pick?

Oh, and Jungle Money, Tony E and Skate need friends. Who wants to be their friend?

Plus, we're looking for someone to edit the blog posts and translate them into the English language. LOL. Anyone want the job? I'm thinking this would be a great job for Ashley, Tony. Problem is the pay stinks. I'd do it but I have a hard enough time translating myself to get involved with anyone else's grammar. Last week I had reign in a story instead of the "rein it in'' I needed. Doh!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather.

Looks like the Frostbite have the Old BC Icemen owner, David Wright taking over.

Hugo Belanger and Lonnie Loach (assuming he doesn't retire again) would be awesome pickups for forwards.
What about Rod Branch as a goalie?

JR
Mon, 06/05/2006 - 2:37pm

Adam Edinger, Matt Elich for forwards
Tim Oconnell, Matt Smith for defenseman

Ryan Van Buskirk for some snarl....

Didnt look at adirondak cause they are still up in the air I guess....

If we get Loach, let's contact Boudreau and John Anderson, too.

well no bum who cant speak no good perfect english outta be deexportated the heck outta here!

I hope the Icemen find a way to hang on. Upstate New York is such a great hockey area. I know that people want the UHL to be a midwest league and it may be better off to do so. But not having hockey in cities like Binghamton and Elmira would be bad for the sport of hockey in general.

Jeff I don't like Rod Branch over the long haul. I have seen him play 20+ games a year up here. Some games he looks like Grant Fuhr. Other games he looks like Hugh Grant!
No consistancy. Folks got on St Pierre for letting in soft goals. Branch is worse when it comes to that.

Tony E -
I was basing my pick on what I saw Branch do against the Komets this year. Who would you pick for a goalie?
In response to some earlier posts - I would take Robinson if he was healthy - I didn't see D'Alessandro this year so I can't weigh in there.

JR - Edinger would be a heck of an addition - I forgot about him. Didn't Elich play for Flint this past year before they let him go? Was that a $$$ issue?

Skate - I was looking at Loach to score, but more so in a leadership role to supplement / replace Chaulk depending on what happens with the contract talks.

Does anybody have any thoughts about Belanger? - I know he's been around for awhile, but he's a three-time MVP, still capable of some HUGE numbers.

Branch stinks!

Bring in Edinger.

No Loach, reliving the past does not work for the Komets.

And who asked for friends? The JungleMonkey loves being the enemy... A Tyler Willis complex, I guess.

Jeff, of the goalies in this league I would take Scott Hay from Port Huron. This guy saw 40+ shots a night most nights and made tons of great saves. Put any kind of defence in front of him and he will shine. The problem with Branch is, he will make an unbelievable save one minute and let a blueliner in through the 5 hole the next.
I do like Robinson as well.
Mike D'Alessandro I saw play both in juniors and at UWO and I thought he had potential far above this level. He was stuck behind Brian Finley most of his junior career but played well most nights he got a chance. He very well could be a great addition to the long line of Komets goalies. Keep in mind though I am sure the organization is looking outside of this league. There will be players available out of the AHL, ECHL and maybe even out of college/juniors worth a look. The bottom line is, there is plenty of talent out there this year to pick from.

Put a little bit of defense infront of dellassandro and watch him become the best goalie in the league. Check his save percentage for the year. He is only.001 percent behind the beloved Martin.

Brian you are 100% correct. He was the best player on the ice most nights his team last year. I think he and Hay are 1a 1b.

D'Alassamdro was awesome. I've seen some video of him and he looks great in it as well. He's the only current UHL goalie I'd want.

I doubt Hugo could put up big numbers in this system.

Steve

Matt Elich had a blow up with Bobby Reynolds, the guy is The most talented player the UHL has seen in sometime, but is a major headcase, huge ego, there is no doubt in my mind that he would in the NHL if he would allow himself to be humbled. I heard he wanted to play in Europe next season. Reynolds tried to trade him to any team that would take him, only found one team that was interested.

Super Fan...you are starting to sound like me...."I doubt Hugo could put up big numbers in this system." Blake and I are friends for sure after that classic comment. Mark that comment down bloggers and save it. Great job Blakester. How did that slip by everyone else so easy?

What I want for next year on this team and what we will get is going to be two different teams. As the old saying goes..."People in hell want ice-water..."

Didnt know that Elich was that much of a head case, so I guess that would pull him off my list....

JR
Tue, 06/06/2006 - 2:50am

Blake, Chaser said that the K's are looking at 3 to 5 guys in the dispersal draft on sports this morning. Obviously you cant tell us now; but can you tell us who they were lokking to get and of the list who they got and/or didnt get????

Greg

Okay here are my picks,

From Roanoke: Jan Jas and Alex Jerofejevs

From Motor City: Adam Edinger and Rod Branch

From Missouri: Brad MacMillian and Kevin Reiter.

I think if the deals are right Branch and Reiter could be a good goalie tandem. Edinger is pretty solid. Jas and Jerofejevs should provide some offense and MacMillian will bring some grit.

Blake
Tue, 06/06/2006 - 6:19am

JR, it depends on if they tell me, which they more than likely won't. The questions get asked all the time, but the answers are up to them.

You guys should keep in mind that every team probably wants the same 5-6 guys.

Greg

Blake, do you know the order in which they are selecting?

Steve

Blake,
Do you know what time the draft is? and if results will be released today? Thanks.

Komets Got Jimmy Duhart, Kevin Reiter,Paul Falco, Brad MacMillan and Matt Elich. Lost Tataryn

Greg
Tue, 06/06/2006 - 8:50am

According to the UHL Website here's who the Komets picked up:
Round 1 Fort Wayne Kevin Reiter (G), Missouri
Round 2 Fort Wayne Jim Duhart (LW), Missouri
Round 3 Fort Wayne Brad MacMillan (F), Missouri
Round 4 Fort Wayne Matt Elich (RW), Roanoke Valley
Round 5 Fort Wayne Paul Falco (F), Missouri

The Frankes and Puhalski must ahave a thing for Missiouri with 4 of the 5 picks. I'm surprised I got 2 of the 6 I thought they would get right. And two others Jerofejves and Jas went right after the Komets picked Duhart (here we go again) and Matt Elich. Edinger went first to Bloomington and Branch went early in the third round to Flint.

JR got Elich, O'Connell went to Flint in Round 2 before we could get him. And we took Reiter and after that Adirondak took Matt Smith. Van Buskirk went in the second round to Rockford.

Lonnie Loach not chosen in the draft

Here's the entire list:
LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) completed a dispersal draft on Tuesday during the UHL Coaches and General Managers Meeting. The draft was conducted to disperse players from the 2005-06 final rosters of the Motor City Mechanics, Missouri River Otters, and Roanoke Valley Vipers. Those three Member Clubs will not participate in the 2006-07 season.

The order in which current Member Clubs selected players was based on their position in the final standings of the 2005-06 season, with lowest ranked teams choosing first. As an expansion club, the Bloomington PrairieThunder chose first in each round. UHL teams now have the rights to the selected players for the 2006-07 season.

The only one that's a surprise to me is Duhart. I'm only guessing at this point, but I bet he's trade bait. I would love to see him in a Komets uniform, but I don't think he'll fit in Puhalski's system.

Tony E
Tue, 06/06/2006 - 9:32am

AHEM....Duhart a Komet.....who that you all know and love suggested this two months ago....... I think a nice group the Komets grabbed. Kevin Reiter played pretty well the second half of last season as Missouri became at least competitive. I think Duhart could suprise you guys. He has always played up to the crowds here when they boo him. I think he might respond well to the cheers he will get. This reminds me of when Chelios became a Red Wing. People here HATED HATED HATED him when he was with Chicago. Now he is probably #2 behind Yzerman as far as popularity.
I like the guys Port Huron picked up
I think Quad city improved themselves too.

ok, dumb question of the day, what is going on with Richmond. Didn't they fold? Why were their players not available? Forgive me if I am having a brain cramp here.

Greg
Tue, 06/06/2006 - 9:53am

I think they weer moving some of the operations to Chicago. That may have included the players, but I don't have that much more information on that.

Mark

Tony E..

Richmond becamse the Chicago Hounds..thus they keep the rights to the players that played there...
