Back in the late fiftys imo the Louisville Rebels were a big rival of the Komets. It was always intense when they played. The Rebels had a goalie named Lou Crowdis who was short firey had a somwhat large belly. The crowd was always on him much like Laaaaaaaary today. Anyhow Lou would argue with the crowd behind the net with the wire fench you could talk very easy with the fans. Fans called him jelly belly and a few other choice names. After the Rebels folded the newest and most intense rivals became the Toledo teams. Their names changed a lot: Blades-Mercurys-Goaldiggers etc. But in my mind i do not believe any team came close to that rivalry except one. The Indy Checkers and Indy Ice team. Oh forgot the Toledo Hornets too. Our biggest rival now ?? We dont have one and that is sad. When u join a league with 18 teams its hard to have a rival. The closest thing to a rival would be the Dayton Gems only because we play them about a zillion times.
I might be biased because I was born in the 80s, and grew up in the 90s, but I'd say the Indy Ice. Those games were always fierce. Plus who can forget Topper vs Fletch? Who can forget the infamous Ice Scraper night?
I also have to say that Toledo, and the horror stories I've heard over the years, is a close 2nd.
And are we talking now as in CHL, UHL, or IHL? UHL, it was Quad City, hands down. In the I2, it was a tie between Muskegon, and PH. As for the CHL, I think it's still too early to tell, but Dayton? Evansville possibly?
Kalamazoo just because of the history. Indianapolis had a 12 year stretch from about 82 to 94 where they were our #1 rival but we played K-zoo for what 40 years?
I think its a toss up between Indy and K-zoo but the HORROR of the old Toledo Sports Arena on 10 cent beer night.
I miss Kzoo. I loved to take road trips there! :(
When I went to games as a child, it was Toledo that I hated. Now... I don't know... maybe Evansville or Dayton, though I don't really feel much there. For it to be a good rivalry, the team has to have broken your heart a few too many times in the playoffs.
1. Toledo..Goldiggers, Blades or Mercury's without a doubt. You had to be at those games to understand.
2. Muskegon Mohawks
3. (Tie) Kalamazoo and Indianapolis.
I really wasnt around for the ICE battles in the 80s and early 90s. In my Komet watching life its the Kwings. I miss when the two teams played, still sucks to not have the Kwings, Ice Hawks, or FuryJacks coming into FTW.
As far as the new league, none really. Mississippi is cool because they have Larry but I really dont hate or have much of a Rivalry with any team. Maybe Quad City? Who knows.
1a: Indy
1b: K-Zoo
Today: Do we really have a rivalry with any of these teams now?
If we do.....someone needs to make a case for it. Because we see these teams over and over again and I don't feel any real excitement playing Dayton or E-Ville or QC or Bloomy.
Maybe something will blossom?
Wish we had K-Zoo or Musky or Flint for that matter. Even PH......we had pretty good tension with those teams.
The Rockford v. Komet games were fun in the UHL.
Quad City v. Komet games were fun in the UHL.
What we have now.....not sure we have much of anything.
It is pretty much all the same with really not much hatred between teams, no fan hatred, I would say Dayton and Evansville would be just because of times played and closeness of travel.....but does anyone in those cities as things sit right now get excited about playung us???
I'd say no.
Dayton needs a fan base.
Evansville needs an arena.
Anybody else having trouble with CHL video connection?
No audio....got video.....and turning on the radio puts that about a full minute ahead of the video.
Nice touch, Texas took time out to give props to Chase!
I have video, but radio is about 20 seconds behind the video for me.
Wow....your video is ahead of the radio???
I have Fios....Radio is Allmost a full minute ahead of the video.
my video is ahead of the radio. it's really annoying.
I have fios, and listening on the web from komets website.
WHEW--tough game so far--come on Komets!!
i am too distracted by the video/radio mess up to even keep my attention on the game!
Well get your "mojo" back in the game--they need all the good vibes possible right now!
When I say radio.....I mean 1190 WOWO on the "Radio"....
Not the Webcast.
The Webcast is alwyas about 2 days old.
1. Toledo
2. Indy
3. Original IHL Muskegon/Cleveland
4. K-zoo
Honestly, I dont think they have had a true rivalry since leaving the original IHL OR, we need to make new criteria for what a rivalry entails in today's hockey....
Radio is 34.5 seconds ahead.
webcast is 40.7 behind.
If the Komets can break the wall in front of the net....they might score.
They are playing a great game one of these have to go in!
46 seconds here on the WOWO ahead of the video.
I agree there Ritz....
Ritz....lol
I have not watched many chltv broadcasts. is the quality of video better at some rinks than others or is it about the same everywhere?
Will someone other than Molle be nominated to take tonights beating?
Yes.....Bloomy is good....Dayton isn't.....E-Ville is ok.....QC is OK......Most are ok.
This one is grainy.
I think it has alot to do with building, and the technology available in that building too.
Better in some rinks Texas feed is not as good but watchable. I think the K's need to take the body more than they have in this game. At least nothing cheap is going on but Texas does have a nut job in #25
