Tailing the Komets

Fifth loss in a row

I felt like the Komets out-worked the Gems for 55 minutes or so tonight, probably had the better scoring chances and played fairly smart as far as the penalties and defensively. They still lost 2-1, their fifth loss in a row and fourth in a row by one goal. 40 shots on net and only one went in.

``I think we have to think about it through the weekend and address it on Monday and see if new faces make a difference or stick with the same group,'' Komets coach Al Sims said. Obviously we're getting shots, we're playing hard and the effort was there. I just don't know what else to tell them. I can't shoot and score for them. I can't tell them to relax when they get the puck. It's just up to them to find their confidence. Right now we're not a very confident bunch.

Shots on goal is a worthless stat. Quality scoring chances per game? Few and far between. 35 of those shots have no chance of going in the way things are. Who on this team will take abuse in front of the net and screen the goalie? Not seeing anyone do it. Time to trade some of this "talent" and get a grinder.

Waive Curry. We brought him in to play like he did the last time and he's shown time and again he just can't do that. It's time to start releasing some anchor weight so our ship can sail. Sorry, you too, PC.

If someone could guarantee that Curadeau was going to pull his head out and start playing the hockey we saw him play 2 years ago as a Komet....I'd say relax, he will get going.

But I am having a hard time seeing him turn this around. I just don't see the guy we had 2-3 seasons ago that could dominate the play, pressure the puck, shoot the puck, pass the puck, body-check every shift, and play with passion.

It is not there

My question is why?

I am not trying to dog on him, I am seriously wondering what has happened to him? Is he hurt? Is his feelings hurt? Did someone steal his mojo?

I can't figure it out, because he doesn't even look like an average player at this point.

This game was boring as all heck. No emotion in this game, other than Bobby Phillips getting a goal and celebrating like he just won the lottery.....which I get. But where is the passion and desire in this team?

I know confidence is low, but sometimes you have to fight this thing out and look for ways to get the spark going. And once again, they couldn't do it.

This is just not a very good team.

I haven't a clue where they find some decent players to play at this level that haven't all ready been snatched up. Outside of begging guys to come back from Europe or out of the old folks home.

Robin
Bouchard anyone?

Cur is probably feeling sorry for himself for not getting an AHL gig.
I don't think you have to waive him. I think he can be traded for a less talented but more gritty player who will do the dirty work in front of the net.

Interesting that the pattern remained the same. Of their 11 games so far, their opponents have now scored first 6 times, and those were all losses for the K's. Of the 5 times the Komets scored first, 2 were victories. The other 3 they lost, and that first goal was their only goal of the night.

At this point i think the K's need to make one move. Make a trade that is a "shot across the bow" move for the other players in the locker room... See if it wakes them up or stirs up some emotion that translates into wins.

I know they are working hard; but they need to work alot harder to climb out of this hole they have dug for themselves...

Weirder still, all those times the K's scored first and still lost were 2-1 games.

It is sad, and it is a shame, because I know he can be a great player.....but he is lost right now.

Bench him for a few games??? But I bet that makes things worse. Gotta feeling his attitude might not be the best right now anyway.....I could be wrong though.

Haven't heard him talk or any quotes from him.

He was the guy that was relishing the opportunity of being a leader here.....

It is sad. I want him to play better.

This thing is rolling out of control at this point and time.

Just when someone says " This can't get worse..." They lose more and fall farther behind.

I haven't a clue if this thing turns around.

My first calls to beg players here start with Chaulk and Bouchard.

Did anybody think the Komets would be 2-8-1 and riding a 5 game losing streak at this time? Certainly not me. All the talk and thought that we were loaded,(I thought the same thing) before the season started was just way off. I didn't see much of Curadeau when he was here the first time but it sounds like something has happened to him. But the games he has played that I have watched he has been a non factor. And PC has played terrible the last few games. He has to go. I hate to say that because he is one of my favorite players. I really think its time to drop dead weight and go younger. What have we got to lose? Nothing at this point. My over/under for wins this year is 16.
This stretch of next 5 of 6 games at home were critical. Evidently somebody forgot to tell the players and coach. And I have noticed the crowds are already getting smaller.

"Not the player he was two years ago..." Is this a tradition that we have to bring in a player to say this about each year?

Wendy, are you trying to apply for a job on here? Youve been digging up some good stats and patterns.

last night was their best effort so far this season. They are getting shots, but they need to work on their shot selection. just don't shoot at the goalie's chest. also their passing needs to speed up, too much standing and wainting to make a play. you have to make a quick pass or use your feet and get up ice. On a side note, can we get a new intro video for the games and can we stop turning out the lights before every game?

The only one who can pull themselves out of this funk is the players with a guiding hand from the coach. This is a very fragile bunch right now. We as fans can tear them apart all we want but until we have been in this situation our thoughts and solutions are meaningless. I certainly haven't been a happy fan but it's not up to me. Marked improvement could be seen last night... let's see if they can build upon it. Let's Go Komets!

Maybe that is the problem with this team KF88, a very fragile bunch right now?

Just what this team needs is to be fragile.

Someone needs to stop being fragile, take the bull by the horns, and lead this team by example.

What Would Chaulk Do???

Where does one find these sleeping giants? Do you think they can skate and would be willing to sign with the Komets? ;)

Phill, agree with you on the opening video, I mentioned it last night at the game. It's history, come on, put it to bed already. Who doesn't know we're in the CHL now? The only appropriate thing about it now is that it shows the Komets last in the team logos, maybe that's part of the jinx?

Hamilton just beat the Marlies, broke the tie with 1:06 left in the game and then got an empty netter to cinch it. It was fun watching Hodgman play, he's doing well.

Skill level? Saw blown plays, missed passes, missed nets, turn overs and out of position screw-ups, just not quite as much as at our level.

It was fun to see Hodgman and here the play-by-play guys talk about hodgman. That game was the third in three nights between Hamilton and Toronto. Hodgman is leading the Marlies in scoring. The only problem that I had with the broadcast was that Brad May said that Hodgman's first professional games were in the ECHL. What happened to the three cups he won in Fort Wayne. I guess we aren't professional.

All this trade talk? You have to give up value to get value. Other than the intangibles and based on current stats, what GM in this league would see us as a trading partner?

No the "old IHL" was not recognized by NHL hockey Hall of Fame. They rejected that cup going in. This was told to me by a HF employee.

You gotta give something to get something. And we have 2 somethings.

You aren't gonna throw Legault and Rechlicz into a trade and expect to get a Nick Lindberg or a John Booras in return.

Not gonna happen.

And I am telling you this right now.....you aren't going to be able to trade most of these guys we have now because they either have no trade value what-so-ever, or they will not agree to a trade and would not report to the next city.

So good luck making a trade.
