LOL!!! I wondered if anyone had that fight anyplace! I remember watching that live and yes, screaming at the top of my lungs. Don Whitman sounded like he enjoyed calling it too!

Brandon, would I waste your time with a pansy baseball fight? Nothing but the best for my bloggers.

Yes, I'm on caffeine overload.

That looked older than '97. I swear I saw Pat Burns and I thought I heard the nams Fleury.

I just took a look at this again and at the beginnig of the clip you can see the clip is actually from 1987 and not 1997 as they have on the site.

Yes that was from 1987. I was 13 and remember it like yesterday. At the time I though that was the greatest moment in sports history.
I can tell you that fight did not start at the beginning of the game either.
Yes you saw Fleury because he pretty much started it.
Canada was frustrated because to get into the gold medal game they needed to win by a bunch of goals and it wasn't happening.
Canada and Russia had a huge hockey rivaly too. In 1972 they played an 8 game "Summit" series, 4 in different sites in Canada and 4 in Russia.
After the first 5 games (4 of which were in Canada), Canada trailed the series 1-3-1 and were really outplayed most games. This was not a team of slugs. You had many all stars and hall of famers and they were getting pushed around by the Russians. Dryden, Esposito, Mikita,Orr, Mahavolich, Bobby Clarke etc. Well Canada came back and won the next two games to tie the series. Game 8 took place in Moscow where Canadian players received death threats in their hotel the night before the game.
In a back and forth game the score was tied at 5 when on a team of all stars, it was Paul Henderson who scored with 34 seconds left to win the series for Canada.
They released the entire series on DVD uncut a couple of years ago. I had always heard about the series but watching it is amazing. It can be found online for under $30 and I recommend it to everyone.
