No matter who shows up on the transactions page now, Komets General Manager David Franke isn't guaranteeing anyone a roster spot.
``We're going to have more good kids in training camp so there will be genuine competition for jobs this year,'' Franke said. ``Just because you have signed, there are going to be people looking for your job so you have to be ready to go. That makes for competition in training camp and brings out the best in everybody.''
The one thing we have to have is scoring on all three lines. We can't get it done with two line scoring and a checking line. Everybody has to chip in whether in a big way or a litle way. When we've been successful in the past, we've had offense from all three lines.''
Quick hits:
On Franke DeAngelis: Should know something by early next week.
Nothing new on Simon Mangos
Not talking with Brent Henley.
Hope to have the schedule ready to go mid-week next week.
Not sure on Apod right now. He's vacationing in Turkey. Sounds like Komets ahve cooled on
Offer out to both Molle and his brother.
``We probably are talking to at least two dozen players right now minimum that we're going to know something one way or the other in a week or two.''

or 7 to 10 days???
Mighty.....are you rumoring Colt King to the Komets?
I thought I heard he was going to Europe???
Or was that the same story I had heard on Frankie D?
Ratchuk??????????
No colt king, but for all colt king fans to bid on his jersey.
July 13th thread was all about the Komets looking for a couple of 30-40 goal scorers. The leading scorers for the K's last year were Drouin, Patrosso, and DeAngelis with 44 points (POINTS, not goals).
These three signings are nothing more than lateral signings. That is aside from LaPointe being good on faceoffs ( and, admittedly, that IS important) nothing else was accomplished by this announcement. If you read Cohn's thread it almost sounds as if Franke has given up on getting a couple of real scoring threats or preparing us for the inevitable "they just wanted too much money" routine.
I'm kind of shocked, and am left wondering that instead of some players who will add scoring ( and make up for the 28 goals from Lardner that this offense has lost ), are we supposed to get excited over this announcement?
Does this offer improvement over last year? Will this entice new STH's or even increased tcket sales at the door? I think not and I am puzzled by the timing of this announcement and what is going on behind the scenes.
Thirty five players in camp is a good thing as long as the tryouts are long enough to make valid, informative, knowledgable, (not hasty ) decisions.
I close this by scratching my head at the lack of attention this 187 goal (minus Lardner's twenty eight ) team is thinking about.
Blake, tell me I'm wrong and that the K's have twenty or so players signed ( just not announced) that will calm my fears regarding the offense.
There are more then likely more players signed..have to spread the signings out some. Plus possibly just waiting on players to send out contracts. Dont forget there is a mail carrier strike in canada so things could be slow. You worry to much alan.
i read Mirasty has signed with a KHL team (Russia)
http://blog.syracuse.com/crunch/2011/07/report_has_former_syracuse_cru.html
Mirasty signs.
Thank goodness the Henley days are in the past. Thank goodness the Mirasty days are in the past.....
I fear the same Alan. But like y2k said, too early. There has to be 3 for reals either waiting to be announced or contract still tweaking. Our rookie class will probably suprise us unlike we are use to with seasoned players and vets.
Henley was 10x the hockey player that Mirasty is/was.
I was under the impression that most teams fax contracts to players. It is quick, easy, almost immediate, and you don't have the possible problem of it getting lost in the mail.
Canadian mail strike? That's poo. You can scan and e-mail or you can fax. Sounds a lot like politics!
Thank you for the advice, Y2K. Although worry is not exactly the way I would put it, I am concerned.
Mightbite: Mirasty to play in Russia? There goes detente.
I read an article out of England that the coach from the Sheffield Steelers was targeting Simon Mangos, but has since stopped targeting him because Mangos had shoulder surgery this offseason and that he would be no where near being ready to play hockey when the season starts.
Let me look for the article:

Nice Find, Hit. Thanks for sharing.
Anybody else notice how every other CHL team is having the same situations signing players who didn't play in their cities last year? Also, have any ECHL players signed in the CHL yet?
JM agreed 100% on Henley being better than Mirasty. But....there is no place for either in the CHL.
Evansville has signed players from other CHL cities.
Mallards have resigned the same crew.
Dayton has so far stuck to the same crew.
I read where Rapid City has re-signed familiar guys, but also listed players from BS and Colorado they are targeting.
I agree Blake. Is it because guys are trying to wait this thing out and get their best deal and most money?
Also agree that I haven't seen movement from ECHL to CHL or CHL to ECHL....outside of Mario Larocque going to Elmira ECHL.
Blake, do you see reasons to support your post that we don't see? And do you think that we are getting closer to seeing guys starting to fall into place on rosters.....I mean the better players of course.
1. Of course
2. Nothing out of the normal. Same thing happens year after year.
3. Not yet. I think it will take another month yet. It's interesting to me that none of the teams seem to be overpaying so far for the big names. The market will fall back the longer the players try to wait.
4. Remember when I said I was told (by several sources) most free agents want to go to Missouri, Rapid City, Allen or Fort Wayne? No big names have signed anywhere else unless there were prior circumstances (Gens, Robinson). It's not because those teams are arrogant or overpaying, it's because they appear to be the most stable teams and have the strongest ownership groups. The fact that all four are playing the waiting game is very interesting.
What the ``established'' AA stars have to remember is that very soon guys will start dropping out of NHL and then AHL camps, meaning the market will be even more of a buyers' market. It's a tricky situation, a gamble on both sides.

1st heavy weight signed :)
Mike Emrick is leaving the Devils broadcast booth after 21 years
Thanks Blake.
Worry, concerned it's all much to do about nothing as far as i am concerned!
And everyone is entitled to their own opinion and/or level of concern for the team they follow....
Good Call JR1.
This is stressful, I worry. I pay money to worry. You will like the next player signings to be announced in 5 to 7 days.
Hints?
Give us the numbers they wore last season......
I will predict....
Frankie D and the Molles.......
Sounds like a 50's rock band.
