Tailing the Komets

Getting your hockey fix

The Komets play only one game this weekend, and that's on the road, so what are you going to do for fun? How about going out to McMillen to watch the Silver Stick Mid American Regional over the next two weekends? This weekend will be the Mite B, Bantam A and B and U-18 B divisions, and Nov. 13-15 will be the Squirt and Pee Wee divisions. There are 63 teams participating, including 10 from Fort Wayne (one Mite, two Squirt, two Pee Wee, three Bantam, two Midget).

This is the eighth consecutive year Fort Wayne has hosted the tournament.

The Mid Am Regional includes teams from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, western Pennsylvania and western West Virginia, though there will be teams from other areas represented, including Omaha, Neb.

There will be about 112 games this weekend and 76 the second, running from 9 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Some of the games next week will be played at Memorial Coliseum.

More than 1,000 players from ages 8 and younger to 18 and younger will participate. All the teams are trying for a spot in Silver Stick International Tournaments later this winter. Last year two Fort Wayne teams advanced.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome to come and watch.

Can I tell you as a hockey parent how embarrassing it is that the MC charges parking when our team is playing there. We are already paying $250.00 to rent the ice and they charge 50 people to park. About the Silver Stick. It's a great tournament, lots of excitement. I enjoy watching games even the ones my son is not playing in.

GHockey....it is an exciting tourney! And as a hockey parent myself, I can say with relief that I am sleeping in my own bed, so my cot at McMillen is free for any parents who would like it for use for the tournament this weekend! LOL

Anyone know what time the bantam A and U-18 championship games will be played?

G hockey, i agree the parking situation at the coliseum B.S!
they will pay someone 8 bucks an hour to sit out there just to charge 20 cars and we had to pay 250 bucks an hour to rent the ice. maybe when the new 3 sheets arena is ready we wont have to deal with them anymore!
