Tailing the Komets

Give yourselves a hand

Tonight's crowd was the largest for a first-round weeknight playoff game since April 20, 1992 when they lost to Kalamazoo in Game 7. Amazing.

Does that include all the giveaways?

Half of the crowd might have been freebies.

Was a good crowd. Not debating that one.

Sometimes you have to give to get.

Do you think there were giveaways? This isn't the MadAnts who gave away a ton of tickets before their TV game.

Why do you say that? Work at the ticket office?

Was a good crowd, any chance one of the "local" sports bars might want to make a little $ and show the "away" games this next round..... I'd "buy" a table of 10-12...... Buy the CHL feed.... get a couple of the Komet "locals" to show up.... give away/sell some of the "out of date" swag....

Where's all the people trying to tell me that the crowd would be small because that's how it always is. Blah, blah, blah.

I'm right here, KW. I told you it wouldn't "fill the MC". Feel free to go back and check the post. It was a good crowd last night and very nice to see some people out for a change. You still would've owed me $100 if you would've been as confident as you speak.

Regardless, I was really glad to see everyone out last night and to actually hear the crowd.

I think a local bar ought to be showing the games from Rapid City!! Lets make this happen. I bet they could count on a decent turn out if they made the blogs and Komets aware..

Give away tickets for playoff game in large amounts?? ROFLMAO!

There was no reason to think it'd be a good crowd given its a Wednesday night and past history of playoff crowds. Also, while the announced attendence was 7,200, I would guess the actual crowd was more like 5,500-6,000, which is pretty good for a Wednesday playoff game.

True test will be if Game 3 vs RC is another weekday and we are down 2-0 instead of up 2-0.

Either way, good showing tonight and hopefully that continues!

Makes me a proud appy fan and advertiser. I can assure you there were very very few tickets given away. Since the Komets get no revenue from parking or concessions there is not much incentive to do it. Sure some corporate sponsors (I was not one of them!!) probably got a freebie but there was no mass giveaway.
But a crowd like that is good for business and the longer the playoffs go I think the large crowd trend will continue.

Kometswin do you have your travel plans for round 2?

Wow snuff I wish I could but I don't know about a 20 hour drive. I would imagine plane fair the Rapid City since it's kind of like a Fort Wayne would be pretty pricey as well.

KW,
I agree.
You take some heat on here for some stuff you said (not that I would know anything about taking heat on a blog lol) but it is clear you are a passionate fan. I salute you for that. I hope in the next few years this team is in a league where you will be able to travel to just about every city without it taking 20 hours or a few hundred bucks in plane fare. And I don't know but knowing Fort Wayne air travel you would probably have to fly down to Atlanta or Mexico City in order to get a connecting flight to Rapid City ;)

Yep this really kills any kind of travel plans for a lot of people. To expensive to fly, to far to drive too get back for work/school in time. CHL TV better be working great by then!! GO KOMETS!!!!

I had heard that anyone who put on their business sign "Go Komets" got tickets for their business to enjoy the game.

I am not against it.....I think it is great.

But there were giveaways.

Don't kid yourself.

Walgreens.
