Tailing the Komets

A goaltenders' duel

Two questions:

1. How darn good is Rob Nolan for Flint? Komets should have had seven goals tonight, but he just kept robbing them. That kid is amazing. This could have been another 10-1 game very, very easily, but he was a one-man team in his own end.

2. How darn good is Tim Haun right now? He is a rock in the nets. He reminds me of Kevin Reiter a few years ago when he was on his hot streak, or Bruce Racine the way he is projecting calm out there. Tim just makes the really good saves look so routine because he's so under control. I think he's giving his teammates a lot of confidence.

That said, how right was I about calling this a potential trap game? Komets better figure out why they struggle so much early in the first game of the week and do something about it. They had tons of scoring chances, but they gave up quite a few, too. If you had not looked at the scoreboard, this might have been a game where you thought the opponents had a much better chance to win from the flow of the game on the ice. If the Komets play like that the rest of the weekend, they could lose one or two games.

One of these days, all those minor penalties by the veterans is going to kill them in a game. They MUST find a way to be more disciplined. It's not the younger players who are getting them in trouble with that, either like you might expect.

Actually, we should continue to ride him to another championship this season because next season he will be in the AHL. He is going to get serious looks if he keeps up this play and he continues to improve. He is playing that good.

Balboa could be a fourth line AHL grinder, no doubt!

Not to cast a cloud or anything, but I'm wondering about a couple of things. Since going 3 of 5 on the powerplay on New Year's Eve, the K's have been 2 for 27 in Janunary (thus far). And they were outshot tonight for the 4th game in a row. It could be just a blip, and they've certainly been doing a lot of winning lately, which is always the most important thing. But do you think it might catch up with them and bite them in the rears if they aren't careful?

BLB -- Good job to Jason and his entire team! That kid has something special, mark my words. And I'm not easily impressed.

Bertram rolled around on the ice after throwing one punch.. No need to get excited.

I'm one of the biggest Schrock fans you'll meet. I don't see any way that he's ready for the AHL at this point. Had a GREAT game last night.. but I just don't think he's ready for that step.

Schrocky needs to stay with the Komets and keep learning from the vets--give his potenial some time to develop!

Thanks, Wendy! I think his coaches are seeing it too. He's in this division for a couple years, so I'll really hope he gets a lot out of these guys. I might see if we can re-allocate some more money to get him into Chaulk's Monday night class out there....heard that one was well worth the time and money.
