Opening Arguments

Good job

Nothing like a little swift and vocal statewide outrage to get the General Assemly's attention:

INDIANAPOLIS — The top leaders in Indiana's Legislature support reversing a new law stripping the names of unopposed candidates from local election ballots.

The law that took effect in July has drawn complaints from candidates and election officials around the state who argue all elected offices should appear on voting ballots regardless of the number of candidates.

But all sarcasm aside, this is a good thing: Law proposed with good intentions; strong negative reaction that was not anticipated; legislators acknowledge too hasty action; law to be repealed at once. This is just how it's supposed to work. And we won't have years of committee meetings, focus groups, expert testimony and constituent questionaires before deciding what should be done.

Perhaps they should have read the bill BEFORE they voted on it?

Kevin, that quote from Long seems eerily reminiscient of one I heard before also, hmmmm...what was that...hmmm... oh yeah:

"But we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy."
Nancy Pelosi.....
