Tailing the Komets

Greatest comeback ever

Not quite, but still amazing. The greatest comeback ever was in 1963 against Muskegon when the Komets trailed 6-1 on the road in the second period but still managed to come all the way back to win.

Thinking back to the games I've been to in the last 20 years - the greatest comebacks that come to mind right away are the 7-6 shootout win over Indy in the ice scraper game and the 8-7 win over Chicago Wolves on Opening Night - I can't remember the year. This easily ranks up there and for the facts that this is a do or die playoff game and that we couldn't hold their jock for two periods I'd put this one ahead of those. If they somehow win this whole series there seriously should be some sort of bronze statue in town of this group that has been here for the last 4 years. Unreal how they're able to pull magic out of thin air.

Great W, started to screen/attack the net in the 3rd-- Hope Bouch is behind the pipes Friday, don't feel comfortable w/ Rides. He looked out of his element. Ks D didn't help, but Bouch doesn't leave as many rebounds and doesn't overplay the shooter when their on the far wing. Stating the obvious --- #s don't lie... Bouch has the rings & hot streak at home -- play your best hand

Keep Reiter in net. He won. Bouche is 0-4 against them. Reiter was solid as heck down the stretch. Great move playing him.

Maybe it's just me but I like a goalie who doesn't flinch every time a puck is shot at him...Those first 2 goals tonight were brutally weak. Bouch is riding a 15 game home winning streak and only gets stronger with pressure. Yes, the Komets won tonight but it wasn't because of Reiter...I would start Bouch on Friday

Punch Colt King in the Face!!!

LOL

Chad has post of the night regarding this core group and their unreal ability to pull wins out of the mouth of defeat....unreal stuff.

I had no inkling that they had a shot to win this game when they went down 4-1 and the MORAN ref continued to tack on penalties that are normally called in preseason games....not playoff games.

I long for George Harrison and his playoff referring style of let the 2 teams decide the game and pack the old whistle away in the keester.

What a game friends. It is like they flipped a switch on with 6 minutes to play and things were unexplainable from the standpoint of....where did this group of komet players come from all the sudden. They had looked like the pre-Christmas Komets during the first 54 minutes of the game......unreal how they turned it on.

No offense Super Fan.....but I continue to totally disagree with your assessment of APOD. This kid is for real. He looked like a seasoned veteran tonight handling the puck. He is starting to do the little things that people complained he couldn't do. No way he is in AA hockey next season.....surely there are hockey people who can recognize the natural talent he has. Is there a better puck handler on this team than him? He has looked very good in the playoffs. He continues to make plays that help this team win games. He assisted on the game winner tonight.....and he was robbed of a goal in the 2nd period....it was definitely in, the replay showed it inside of the post and I sit directly behind the net and at regular speed during the live action, had no doubt it was in the net. LOL

Can't wait for Friday.

Go get em Komets!!!

Gotta play 60 minutes of aggressive hockey.

Mele looked pretty good for his first pro game.

I got pretty clear pictures that show Harvey leaving his feet to plant Lardner into the goal pipes in the second period. No one else is around him in at least 8 photos that show him first on his feet, then leaping at Lardner. Next with both feet off the ice Harvey's right shoulder hits Lardner in the back/neck/shoulder region, and then, finally, Lardner crashes with his shoulder and head into the crossbar and then into the net.

Harvey clearly intended to cause Lardner to smash into the pipes.

Well, duh, now he is Hit. When he first got here, he had no clue that there was another side to the red line. He's come a long way.

A huge win tonight way to go Ks. A-Pod will not move up next year he still can't play in D-zone. His offense is awesome some times. I thought the new guy #10 was much more affective than Patrosso. I liked the kid he hits, passes, shoots and back checks. He would be a good one for next year.

Blake....I am teasing you here....but on Kent's show just less than 2 weeks ago....you said that APOD was still one dimensional and had a long way to go....

I contend, he doesn't have that much further to travel.

This kid is a stud.

He is playing with the big boys in this series, and he looks like our best player on the ice.

I don't know about Colt King, but I was really rooting for Cescon to make Reaney even uglier with some hits to the face.

Harvey is about as tough as his mustache. I had more facial hair when I was 14. Calling that thing a mustache is an insult to mustaches.

Hey fella's I'm still here and want to pass on Congrates to the Komets. It was a fine performance the last 9 minutes of the game. Let's remember though,it is still a long road to travel to win the series.Bring on Friday night and let's go again.

Frod, don't you think your guys are just a little antsy? They are up by 3 on the road with a chance to be home today and they blow it. I bet you can't pull a needle out to the coaches behind with a pair of plyers right now.
I wonder who he wants suspended today?

Mike, this is what I was saying after the two losses last weekend. All we needed was one win to get back in this. Do you think RC might have some doubts no matter what the score is Friday that they can't blow another lead? If we take the W Friday, how long do you think that 18 hour bus ride will seem like knowing they couldn't close us out. I know we still need to win one more...but I have no doubt they can!!!

Confidence is a good thing. Just remember the game still remains to be played. Think what it would be like having to drive to SD just to see a fairy tale come to a end.

Thu, 04/21/2011 - 10:03am

Absolutely Hoss. Our guys are motivated in two ways. They are off the schneid with these guys and have some confidence. RC has to be thinking how do we get rid of these guys.
Secondly, someone says RC is the "dirtiest team" he has ever played against. And I am thinking the Komets want to shove it where the coach keeps the needle. LOL

Thu, 04/21/2011 - 10:11am

Frod, I would take my chances with that drive. What about the mindset of your goons. They are going to have the same drive home this time. Should be pretty even. Oh, and we have even witnessed the Komets beat the referees before.
Someone should bave given Menei the same message I am delivering now. "Buckle up the chin straps"

Backing a team like you people do is a fantastic thing but there is one thing I would like to mention. I would really hate to see all the fired up fans disapear when the fairy tale ends.If you look at what most hockey experts say, the fairy tale comes to a end on Friday night. Good luck at beating the odds.

Are those SD experts? Experts are wrong quite a bit of the time. If we listen to them why bother playing. There always has to be an underdog. And sometimes the underdog surprises.
As they say, "that's why they play the game!!"

Just a reminder to go back and read paragraph 6 of yesterdays Blake Sebring story.

Frodawg, you may remember my post of yesterday. In it included my mention of 59 years of Komet hockey, and how with such a long history, nothing surprises us anymore.

The come-from-behind, facing elimination, four goal third period, and overtime win is just another example.

I also mentioned how I hadn't seen a CHL team that I thought the K's couldn't beat.

I must admit that in the first period my mind did drift back to opening night and the 4-0 Rush win. The first two periods reminded me of that game. However, that is why they play three periods.

Last night I saw a Rush team that I thought was very good. They played the first two periods with skill, speed, size and a kind of "swagger". The third period showed me a couple of flaws. They started to play tentative, they allowed the momentum to change, and they allowed the Komets to dictate the play. ( If I'm not mistaken they had been nearly perfect when leading the game going into the third period, correct)?

The Komets team I watched last night was like watching the entire season compacted into one game. Dumb penalties, lousy passing, waiting for the perfect pass instead of shooting the puck on goal and then crashing the net. Falling behind and forcing a mode of "desperation" before they started playing hockey again. The seemingly stubborn and equally frustrating habit of waiting until it gets too late before they play effectively. It almost happened again last night.

This team is killing me as I can never figure out whether they are this good ( third period and overtime) or this bad ( first and second periods).

One thing i'm pretty sure of is Coach Ferras will have Rapid City ready for 60 minutes of hockey. Coach Sims better have his team prepared for it and instill that sense of "desperation" that ignites their skill and passion.

Bring on Friday night. If the Komets win, then Sunday's game will be terrific. If the Komets lose on Friday, well, then the game on Wednesday, April 20th will go down as a Komet "classic".

Frodawg
Thu, 04/21/2011 - 10:43am

A true classic is a good way of defining it. Two totally different teams playing two totally different styles in the same game.Wow you could've said it any better. This is turning out to be a excellent series and I am hoping it continues past Friday night. I would love to see it come back to Rapid City to see how the teams will react to the long journey.Let's drop the puck and see what happens.
