The mayor proposes a 30 percent raise for his office and ends up with a 15 percent one. Boy, couldn't see that one coming, huh? I hope this means the mayor will do a 15 percent better job in watching out for MY money.

Good point Leo. He likely did that on purpose knowing full well he would not get 30% but something in between. So the mayor wanted 15% and asked for 30%. Pretty slick. I don't think he deserves more than 3% and he sure shouldn't be making more than the mayor of Indianapolis. The city council also gave themselves a 3% raise. A raise should be based on current salary not what other people in Ft Wayne are making!
Makes a statement about "holding one's breath"....
(regarding doing a BETTER job)
It could be worse..but not by much.

Here's a thought. The city government should vow to work for free, until they innovate and install methods to lead the nation in undoing the shameful damage inflicted upon thousands of Americans laid off by unethical companies trying to cash in on the current fads of union-busting, benefit-welching, pension-stealing and opportunistic bankruptcy-filing.
Steve...now THAT is putting the "servant" back into CIVIL SERVANT....
Brilliant!

Steve, I'm still not sure we'd be getting our money's worth...
How about Ken Fries getting a $15,000 raise?
In July (on the campaign trail) he said he would accept the same pay as our Prosecutor- $115,000.
Today, he asked County Council for $130,000, and they gave it to him.

I don't have a problem with either one of them getting a raise, I have a problem with trying to make a political football out of it. Move on for God's sake....
They are all ridiculously over-paid, from "Lord" Mayor Richards on down. And don't get me started on that worthless lump of a superintendent we have at FWCS. She's making 4 or 5 times what she's worth.
Actually, Leo, I do believe that the likely result will be Sir Graham doing 15% less work in the next year than he had initially forecasted. The way that Congressional representatives frame their usual talking points, Mr. Richard could easily describe this turn of events as a "pay cut."
Tim, apparently you don't mind if public officials who are paid with your tax dollars lie. Employees raises are supposed to be tied to performance, public officials should be no different.
Most citizens, if they still have jobs, are grateful to receive a 3% raise. These are hard times for many people. How do we justify giving the mayor a 15% raise? Why is he willing to accept it? He apparently has no regard for the 'everyman' who is struggling to just get by.
