I just talked to him and he's in Fort Wayne tonight.
``I'm unofficially here and I'm thrilled about it. I love it here.''
He's getting his physical done tomorrow, and he's confident there won't be any problems.
``The knee is great,'' he said. ``I saw the doctors in New York, and I'm cleared to go and everything is healed. I'm actually in better shape now becuase I had time for everything else to heal. I don't feel my age which is good.''
He actually sat out a year and a half which he was absolutely awful, but also good because it made him appreciate things a lot more.
As for being released by Utah, he said it was a salary cap/roster/guys sent down from Calgary thing, and he left on good terms.
``I didn't plan to come back to Fort Wayne, but as soon as my phone rang and I saw it was David, it made perfect sense,'' he said. ``My phone was ringiging quite a bit all day yesterday, but there was only one call I was really excited about.

Bottom line Henley is tough and can play the game. I am very glad he is in town, in fact everyone I have talked to since the news broke that he might come back have been really positive about this...especially in light of how the Komets got pushed around saturday night.
Now lets add a forward or two that can bang. I think the Komets really need some forwards who punish the opposing teams defense and help create turnovers.

The guy sounds like he really wants to be here. It sounds like he is very motivated by the opportunity. That is all I need to hear from him to make me forget he is 31.
For all concerned I hope third time is a charm and he stays healthy and contributes to this team for the rest of the season.

Good news. So with him and Lovell, does that give them too many vets? Also, who gets waived? Hopefully they don't cut Starenky.
They shouldnt cut starenky, he is the second biggest guy on the team if henley signs. I think it will be Auger, he didnt do much last week. Plus, they are raving about starenky and I havent heard the front office say anything about auger. there will be at least one player on IR or a heatly scratch all year.
Excellent news. Just wondering how much slack the refs will give him though. They allowed Sgroi to stand there taunting Molle and Schrock to fight and Schrock got a penalty for tapping him with his stick. If Henley says BOO to someone the ref probably gives him a game misconduct.

I've been thinking about this more and I am still ok with the experiment of signing him because I know they will cut bait if it doesn't work.
But I don't see this solving most of the problems from Saturday. He certainly isn't going to help with scoring and he can only contribute slightly to the improving of the passing game.
Now...here is my radical idea for the day
Since many of you think he can skate and keep up:
Put Henley on the FORWARD line and park him in front of the net Nobody will be able to move him out of there and talk about a physical presence and a screen of the goalie.
I believe I was wrong in my thinking yesterday that bringing Henley in would cost another rookie his job. It can't because of the vet rule. So who goes?
Snuff they use to do that with him on the PP when he was here before, so it might happen again who knows. I could see them using the 10 IR spot vacated by Warner to put somebody there while they evaluate Henley's effectiveness or not..
