Tailing the Komets

Here's the lede

On Friday night, the Fort Wayne Komets looked too much like those trying to drive during the first snowstorm of the year: They were tentative, looking to avoid contact and afraid to go too fast for fear of spinning out. Instead, they got

Agreed...They just don't seem to be playing with any type of "edge". Two things that hurt, Leo missing open net, can't believe he didn't score there, PC not being able to score on his chance in front of net, and Kevin giving up a bad goal. Don't know what the final count was on shots on goal but at one point BT were out shooting the K's 4 to 1. I think Cescon is their best overall D-man he plays the body, clears the net, and plays a simple game. Good to see Schrock playing hard and being rewarded. Hopefully the can get a W in Dayton Saturday.

Some thoughts.....don't take any of these personal....LOL

1) PC needs to either play hard a whole game....I mean period.....I mean shift......this guy looks really awful. IS he hurt? What is going on with him. Put all love for his dreamy-ness aside here ladies and gentlemen.....if you watch him on the ice, he stinks right now. No offense to him, he is a great guy and was a great hockey player.....but so far this season, and after watching him tonight.....I don't know what else to say. He needs to pull his head out and start playing hockey the we all know he can.

2) Lardner not on the powerplay???? Why? Surely that will change. He is a sniper and a playmaker. He should be on the top-line....I will address this later.

3) Leo missed 2 really wide open nets tonight.

4) Schrock is a stud. He plays with 100% effort every stinking shift. It has to kill this kid to watch some others on his team float around out there. Kaleigh is turning into a total player. I saw him winning faceoffs tonight, he plays both ends of the ice, and checks. Why can't some of his teammates buy into his effort and at least give 71%.

5) Naurato is beginning to make me wonder. Will he pull-out of his funk?

6) Did you guys see Reiter having words with Warner at the end of the 2nd.....and Reiter threw his water bottle towards him. Warner has offensive skills folks, he is a liability on defense. I know that is not PC to say.... Ever notice he gets himself out of defensive position and gets burnt up the ice and you can see him scrambling behind the play to try and catch up?

7)Francis, OC, Schrock are carrying this team right now. There is a huge hole in the topline. Curadeau needs help. The topline needs something inserted into it, maybe a TAB?

Here is what the have to do:

Musselwhite, Curdy, TAB
Francis, Schrock, OC
Leo, Naurato, PC

Sorry, but until the 3 on the bottom start producing, they need to play from the bottomline and pull out of their funk.

8) I have said all season Cescon is the best D-man on the team.....defensively. He is as solid a defender as this team has seen in a long time.

Did Delisle not play in the 3rd period? I can't recall seeing him on the ice, and I think Rodger took his shifts.....

Hit-
You are right on with your comments. I see it the same way.

Leo missed a couple and just seems frustrated on the ice and not playing on the edge that made him good last year.

I like Naurato but he just can't get it turned around.

PC had one good chance and just lifted it a little. Could have made it through the 5 hole if he kept it down, but looked bad again.

Delisle took some kind of "stinger" in the upper arm / shoulder and didn't return.

bad wording. Leo drew a couple penalties.

More like in Buffalo 34 in. of snow in 24 hrs.=please come to Ft.Wayne./Komets fans get all happy cause we win 3 in a row,but look at who they played. QC who has played 7 games in 9 days with travel to & from QC in 2 days. Then there was Evansville not really a top team. PC & Guy needs to retire. I do think Guy gives 100% but PC ??????????

I agree with Hit up until you included OC in the list of who is carrying our team. I assume you included him because that is his line? He is not the developing stud we saw last year an I would put him in the PC column of we know his ability but he is not living up to it this year at all. I didn't see Musslewhite mentioned either. What a player! He is quick and can make things happen (of course I'm not a Reiter fan and I seem to be in the minority there too)

If we can't afford a snow plow, could we at least get a good snow blower? It's going to be a long wait for Spring if this is a sample of our driving on snow!

I think the snow tires are missing some studs!

People jumping on Reiter need to calm down. The guy got little help from his defense. I wish he would have "went Boucher" on Warner and slapped him around. DeAngelis and Warner act like a couple of NHL studs, too bad they don't play that way.

Lardner was decent.

Delisle was great in the 3rd period.

Can Rodger please stay on defense? Playing the dude in multiple positions in the same game has to get frustrating.

Lardner, Thomas, Schrock, and Francis were the only forwards that put any defensive effort forward.

Who's fault is it when the players come out flat and don't look ready?

Bloomington was just plain fast friday. They were flying all night! Schrock should have got only 2 minutes on that charging call. 5 was not the right call. Reiter was left to handle the puck in our zone most of the night. Thought Rodger played a fine game. Lardner is going to make a big impact here! Tough game at Dayton tonight. We win there and thats a good sign. Getting tired of these 2 weeks without a home game. Thats three times now already!.

JM, there's no doubt that Reiter was hung out to dry all night. He even had to fight off odd man rushes and assaults by Bloomington during our powerplays. Warner, and many others, certainly needed a tongue lashing. Reiter probably over-reacted to this neglect, as it has been suggested, and tried to do too much. The fact remains though that even though he made some miraculous saves, Reiter's out-of-the-crease roamings didn't help the Komets. If he had been properly protected none of this might have happened. As it is though, I think that it is fair to say that he deserves some share of the blame.

You ask who's fault it is that the players come out flat and don't look ready. A better and highly related question is why corrections aren't immediately made to do something about it. Being benched during the middle of the game and being forced to watch the remainder of the game from the stands might give some of the players more "understanding".

If I had to clone any player on this team it would be Musslewhite. Give me 4 more of him anyday. Wins faceoffs, forechecks, backchecks, unselfish, FAST, kills penalties, on the powerplay and he's an 0 in the +/- stat. He's a player.

Have they scored one goal this year because someone took abuse standing in front of the net and banged in a rebound? Yeah I know it has happened...but not often enough.
Someone needs to pay the price in front of the net. Get Dino Ciccarelli in here to teach these guys how to do it.

Looking at the gamesheet from last night...Bloomington was 4-5 on the Power Play!!! As impressive as that feat is...we (Komets) only had FOUR penalties in the game...so how could they have been 4-5? Are we "padding" our stats again?

Out-worked, out-hustled, out-hit, and out-classed for at least 40 of the 60 minutes last night. I can't remember when I saw so many AWFUL passes and so much COMPLETE incompetence in getting the puck out of the defensive zone!

I'll say one thing for the CHL officials, I've seen more "too many men" calls a game this year, then we saw in whole SEASONS of IHL hockey! I think the "no-touch" rule SUCKS!!! If they're going to have Euro-trash, "isn't-my-mullet-pretty" no-touch icing; then there needs to be no waives offs FOR ANY REASON! Too many times, guys are expecting a whistle and then Fife-the-Linesman waives it off and creates an odd-man situation or the same old crash-the-boards race that they're trying to avoid.

I sit on that end of the building and LKS deserved every bit of four minutes, not sure about the five, especially after the hit on Rodger last week only got a two. Stay hard on the throttle LKS!!!

Tab looked like a great pickup; Frankie looked to be trying too hard; Francis and Musselwhite are coming into their own; Warner is still hot & cold as is Reiter; Guy isn't "Guy" anymore, but he's still damn solid; Roger reminds me of Peter Crawford from the old days, I bet he could get in the net if needed, LET HIM PLAY! Still need more out of Curadeau & OC and I think having Tab will spark Naurato. Time to name a #1 keeper and let hom ride a hot streak. Lastly, PC offers little more then that "bang-bang" play that he and Leo practice in every warm-up...and lately they fail to connect.

Crap, you're old, Caprad. LOL. Amen on no-touch icing. Definitely hurts the flow of the game, too.

When you score a goal durng a five-minute major power play, you get another power play immediately after on the sheet until the major runs out. That's so you don't score two, three or four times on one power play and mess up the percentages. So the PT scored once in two power plays on that major penalty.

The minute you name a No. 1 goaltender and try to ride him (no pun intended), you can guarandarntee ya that guy will get hurt the next game and you'll need the other guy. Never fails. Then again, neither guy is going to be super sharp playing one game a week. THey've got plenty of games coming up late in the month where they will probably need both.

Ok, we are now 15 games in, almost one fourth of the games played, and we have only won 5. Would it not be logical to say that nothing is working?

The LKS hit was right in front of my brother and he said almost the same as caprad, definitely a penalty, was expecting a double minor and surprised by the 5 min.

Thanks for the info about the power plays, Blake. That makes perfect sense, of course. I guess the K's were lucky it wasn't 5 for 5 then, the way things were going.

If the goalies know that they're going to play every-other-game (like now), they're not going to fight for ice time and start pushing each other. Right now, keeper has a bad game and he can just go, "not my night, I'll be ok in a few days." If you start riding a guy who's performing, (AND SWITCHING IF ONE STARTS GIVING UP SOFT GOALS) it'll bring up the game on BOTH keepers! Then, with our talent in the pipes, guy has a bad night, he knows he might not see the ice again for a week or two.

Screw this liberal coaching crap, start sitting guys if we're not getting their "A" game...or at least a "B" game...right now, it's like t-ball. Everyone gets to play and they all get ice cream later, YEA!!!

There's plenty of anger in the Coliseum over what's going on, but it all seems to be located in the seats...and NOT on the ice! Other than LKS, where's the damn PASSION on this team? You've got this big crowd every night (no where near as big as being announced lately), but you're putting them to sleep! We drop two goals and get behind, someone go out there and scrap with someone or crank a guy to get the crowd back in the game! For the love of God, we WANT to push you guys!!! GIVE US A REASON TOO!!! If you can't, then go sell insurance, or fight fires, or hang drywall and let us bring in some kids who will!
