Tailing the Komets

Here's a stat for you

In Kevin Reiter's two wins, the Komets have scored 11 goals. In the other 11 games, including a pair of relief appearances, they have scored 21 goals. That's ridiculous. They have scored fewer than three goals in nine of his games.

Why is that such a surprising stat? The Komets have had trouble scoring goals in 85% of their games.

It only makes sense that the goalies will have trouble when their team scores two goals a game for them and it makes sense that they will have success when their team scores five or more.

The game last night had to be one of the most disappointing Komet games I have ever attended.

Frankly I was a little surprised by the opening video. You know. The one where "headlines" from newspapers were shown displaying scores of prominent Komet losses. Then at the end Colin Chaulk appears as if he would be the total answer. For goodness sake, whoever had that idea should've burned that video before it ever appeared. First off, I don't consider any one player to be able to turn this season around alone. It is totally unfair and unrealistic to put that pressure on any one player. Colin Chaulk was brought in to lead by example and bring his experience as both a player and a guy to be vocal about calling players out when the need arises. How, and I mean how, do you think the rest of the players took that video? I, personally, would have taken it as an insult.

Ok. That was my rant.

Now I have thought about this next thing since the end of last night's game. Did the Komets come out flat because of they hadn't played a game in five nights, the injuries to Thomas and Shrock, or did they look past Evansville to the game tonight at Dayton?

I agree that this team should never, ever, look past any game and beating Evansville is paramount toward attaining a place in the playoffs. Maybe, though, they are a little more aware of the emphasis Dayton is putting on this game and extracting some revenge. Maybe it is on the back of their minds and affected their play last night.

Alan, if they were looking past E-ville to Dayton tonight, that is just another "tell" to why this team is sooo inconsistent and possess' the worst record in the league. Last night was a big game when it comes to the last playoff spot in the Northern conference. That loss is a four point swing for the K's.

Personally, I dont think they were looking past the Icemen last night; but just showing us once again how they cant get up for games this season... These guys are not used to giving it everything they have every game all season long to get the job done. They wont pay the price...

if i were one of the goalies, i would have quit a long time ago. i give them all the credit in the world. it's not easy having terrible stats bc ur team is terrible. (yes, i am not naive at the fact that there have been some terrible goals that both of them have let by. they are also human.)

No, JR. Too much to do here. I'm guessing he had an equipment problem because he went back in.

Sounds like Molle might be staying with the Komets?

He said his girlfriend was planning on joining him here in the next couple of months.

Alan, I think the players look at the Chaulk hype pretty much as any other hype that's being used to get fans in the stands or the fans in the stand charged up. It's hype and they know it, they're pros could probably care less, if they're even aware of it.

Interesting pre-game interview with Coach Gratz, talked about his team and their need to get two points out of this game, nothing at all about revenge or taking it to the Komets, etc.

So far I haven't seen a whole lot of effort on Dayton's part to get any kind of pay-back, but only one period down.

Dayton is not much of a tough team.....looks as if they talked the talk to throw the komets off their game when all they had to do was play their style and beat us......out coaching sims isnt very hard its been done most of his career

Or maybe they talked tough to try and stimulate the gate?

And your right, most coaches who have been out coached thier entire career have coached in the NHL....

Long Powerplay at the end of the 2nd.....not alot of creative looks, they are settling for standing around and shooting from around the arch.

Pretty sad.

Power play needs some work. This makes absolutely no sense:

Komets have the CHL's best home power play at 25.3 percent and the worst road power play at 12.9 percent. 18.8 percent overall.

JR1
Sat, 01/08/2011 - 9:12pm

K's are 1 for 6 on the PP....

I think I read last week that the K's PP is first on home ice at like a 26%; but when they go on the road its like 12%...

Hopefully the K's come out flying in the third period...
