Hit Somebody!!!

Hi, My name is SuperFan Sebring, and I am an official Negative Nellie.

Great points Blake. You are spot on.

I remember some people slamming me not too long ago for questioning effort, heart, and willingness to do it what it takes to win hockey games.

It is the same old story with this team.

I can't wait for BWs to get back. Then we can start winning hockey games.

This will get everyone fired up....

It is time to make a change behind the bench....actually it might be too late....it might not even matter.

But one of two things have happened with this team....

1) They are playing in awful schemes and systems that is wasting the talent they have.

2) They are refusing to do what the coaching staff is telling them to do.

Is Al preaching that the team needs to play more physical around the net?

I don't every hear him mention it in the pressers. He just gives them a pass by saying they played great and they just didn't get the pucks to go in.

Something has to either change.....or we should just accept this is a last place team that has decided to give up.

Maybe the players haven't given up.....but it appears something or some part of this team is broken down.

The ref was stinky tonight. OH well.

I have to give it to Holy Molle....dang, he beat the snot out of Lane......there was a blood trail to the penalty box. Props for that. He is a pretty good d-man. Just not good enough to impact the rest of the poor defensive play right now.

Will this team pull together?

Man! Maybe I was watching a different game (maybe the one the ref was watching besides ours!) but I thought the Komets did a better job of taking the puck to the net and having some traffic around it. There were at least three times Tab, Chaulk, or even PC was around the net fighting to find a way to put the puck in. I thought Phillips was one of the best on the ice tonight. He almost single handily fought off most of the 5-3 in the third by going down on one knee and taking away the allies.

I am sure this will sound bad, but I really hope Patrosso is fighting off the flu or an injury. There was at least five times I saw him just stand there at the side of the net while his guy was in front or how about in the first when we had a delayed call and he just let the puck slide right past him without trying to touch it to kill the play or when he just stood at the blue line when we were trying to bring the puck in. I will give him the fact that he made a nice move in the shootout, but couldn't finish. Maybe he will be the next to go.

Like I said a week ago, we are missing Thomas!!! Maybe when he comes back, it will be the shot in the arm the team needs to get on a roll and take a playoff spot from someone!!!

With only four defensemen playing the Komets should have worn them down with physical play, especially in their own end. This is ridiculous.

Yup. Very true. I know there are those who seem to think that on the list of things that are difficult to understand in this world, hockey ranks just above quantum physics. But from what I've seen, it's actually very simple. Get to those loose pucks, win face-offs as often as possible, avoid taking dumb penalties, and for crying out loud, get in front of that net. be ready for those rebounds. It doesn't matter what level of hockey you're talking about. If a team is struggling, it's almost always because the players aren't doing those things. But really, that been a problem for the K's even before this season. When they won the 2008 championship, they excelled at going to the net, but the next two seasons (even though they were still the IHL champs), they just weren't crashing the net like a team that really wants it. I guess it's finally caught up with them this season.

At least this game was not as much of a bore as last weekends....just want to see them play with the heart and passion they did the past few seasons. My husband and I overheard a conversation going on behind me tonight I thought was interesting....even though it was a different league, different style of play etc...the difference in their "win at all costs" mentality seems huge. They had the same coach those seasons...so one would think if the coach and his style was as lame and useless as some on here continue to say...then we would have seen more of these type of problems during those seasons too. Seems like a valid point...but it just makes things more confusing. I still don't think firing Al is the smart move. Not that I have any clue what the right move is though lol. As always GO KOMETS....we are better off than we were a month ago..that is my positive thought!!!I have said before, I am new to hockey so if I sound like a newbie...I AM. Be gentle :)

I've said it almost all year...it's time for a line brawl to bring the guys together

Remids me of when an over the hill/under caring Komets team lost in the playoffs to a Cleveland team that brought about 12 players and two bag boys to Fort Wayne about 15 years ago.

Mr. Snuff,

If I recall, that team was the one that "dedicated" their playoff season to Bob Chase, who sat out the series due to having a heart attack?

Same old, Same old (GIGO):
-no offensive zone forwards net prescence (per Blake)
-no net crashing ability in offensive zone (per Blake)
-failure to clear defensive zone (mostly forwards)
Trouble brewing Al?
Definitely another BORING game to watch.

Mrs. Mightbite here ...
Guys, you looked really good last night. Lots of work and hussle. Keep it up and you'll be winning like crazy again.

Interesting observation ... no Curadeau, no Thomas, no Warner, no O'Conner = more hussle on the ice?!?! Things that make you go hm-m-m-m

Patrosso needs to get an "upper body injury" like Curdy.

Molle, Phillips, and Ceson are the only guys willing to make anyone pay the price to stand in our crease.

Is Schrock back to 100%? Didn't look up to par last night.

A big sign of the lack of caring is how few checks the Ks are putting on anyone, IMO. There is no way the Ks will ever be able to dictate a game if they are unwilling to touch anyone.

JB
Sat, 01/15/2011 - 9:52am

We have all been saying the same thing since the first of this pitiful hockey season: The Komets need to check, and they need to crash the net. The season is half over. Why hasn't it happened? It won't make any difference who we cut or who we bring in; if those two things don't happen, nothing will change for the K's. Patrosso looked especially bad last night. Wondering if he had the flu. Also wondering if we cut him if he will magically turn into a scoring machine like Narauto.

I didn't think Schrock looked 100% last night either. He was sure silent most of the night. I love Tab, and Molle was great. IMO Chaulk hasn't done anything to deserve his "C" yet. But I think Guy continues to work hard...

The blame falls on David Franke & Al Sims. They dont want a physical team. They get rid of Olivier, Al would only play him 1 or 2 shifts. Evansville had a kid on their team that was 6ft 8, Mario is 6ft 4. Come on Al & David when are you going to realize that we need physical players on this team, & play them more than 1 or 2 shifts. Al needs to stop being soft & get some physical players on the team

Boy did Danko and Bobby play terrible last night...my god if it weren't for Nick making some killer saves we lose that game by 4 or 5.

Right now, I think we need 1 power forward to create traffic in front of the net and a D-man that will actually play the body and pin somebody against the glass instead of letting them skate the puck all the way down the dashers and set up teammates. We aren't losing games by much anymore, we just need a big body to put back shots and a D-man that actually wants to play D and commit to defense and not be a combo guy like Frankie, BW, Rodger, Guy.

Also, why the heck are they wasting a great opportunity by putting Patrosso on a line with Chaulk and P.C. As much as they shoot, put either A-pod or Francis on a line with them. When Chaulk puts it on their stick, they will at least get a good shot off.

My guys that should be gone list : BW(or commit to moving him to wing full time), Patrosso(10 points in 26 games), Musselwhite(9 in 22)
On the fence: Curadeau, Phillips, Rodger

Pretty sure you're going to be in the minority by thinking Phillips had a bad game.

I say on the fence=#71% & Curadeau has been playing hurt, will be better by playoff time :)

I don't think PC is on the fence he done fell into the yard of misfits. There is an extreme lack of hustle and passion in him.

If coaching is not the problem, then why in the last 4 years, have the komets been consistantly out skated by a team with a very short bench 95% of the time.

JungleMonkey

Coaching is a problem. Playing the same system gets the same result. Even with different players.

Hear Hear!!! Let's identify a couple of players and blame them for all the woes of this hockey club. Come on who's with me? Get your clubs and chains and we'll run these bums outta town!!! If these two or three players were gone then by-god we'd have a contender, say I. Genius' on this forum, brilliant posters of the likes I've not seen before.

Wow, some of these postings are unbelievable.
For those of you attending the games, try watching coach Al and his sidekick Garry for a while, they are sometimes better than watching the games anyway....they lack enthusiasm, lack emotion, lack direction and my goodness they still play the same old way and get the same old results...appearances on the players faces are blank.

we need to get rid of Al now!!!!!! No one on here can say that it is not his fault. In any sport u play if u dont do what the coach says u sit so if thats the case then sit the guys that dont do what they are suppose to do.If they are doing what he says then even more reason to get rid of him we dont hit we get all together on one side of the ice all the time no one going to the net except a few and when they do they score.I say if they dont want to play with heart and play the way they need too sit them. Play the five guys that want to play we will get beat 20-1 but i can cheer for someone that gives there all and wants to play and try.Our power play is a joke lets all get on the komets side of the ice and stand together thats working great the coach is a joke the three cups dont matter in a two man owned ihl. I say new coach and we start winning and not Gary he is just as bad!!!

Is it Sims fault that the offensive systems aren't working. Absolutely, it's been one of the qualms we have had on them the last 4 years. However, defensively, his systems are very sound when the players actually focus on executing and not on trying to score points and be flashy. That is player effort and it is on them to play nose to the wall, body on body hockey.

The only thing I can think of that would fix the offense coaching wise is maybe hire a consultant to work, much like Shaf, but with a distant history from the Komets. Somebody that has made it work on there own and isn't a name from the past. Have him implement some new systems because right now its not working. Sims doesn't necessarily deserve a pass but the guy knows defense better than probably 85 percent of the coaches I have seen at this level.

Bob I think you are right about that being the same year.
It was a joke. If memory serves me correctly the Komets won the first game and then got swept the rest of the way.

To those who are saying that those who need to be sat if they don't do what the coach says: I wholeheartedly agree. I just told my kid this morning that if his coach tells him today to put the puck in the other team's net, don't argue, just do it. Look at him funny all you want, but he is the coach, and he knows what is best for this team, you don't. It worked well (he did not tell Jason to put the puck in the other team's net, Jason put it in theirs once, and assisted at least 4 times to get it in theirs), and we set up plays that the coach drew up that on the white board, really did not look like they would work. They did in real life. Really, really well. So well, we're going to the championship tomorrow morning. Squirt Blues, you rock. Proud to be cheering for you!!
