Tailing the Komets

How much?

Are you going to be following the other playoff series? Are you going to be following them more or less since it's the CHL and not the IHL and you may not know some of the other players as well? Does it make a difference

I will be following the playoffs closely, even if the Komets go out in the 1st round...it's just more exciting this year.

I could see the Komets sneaking out of the 1st round, I don't have a good feeling about Dayton moving on, and I think QC may surprise a couple teams. I think Allen takes it all

I'll be following the Turner Conference series. The Berry, not as much unless we keep winning. With IHL teams playing CHL teams in all but one of the matchups, it keeps me interested. I don't see a lot of first round upsets. I think the Komets have the best shot vs. Bloomington. I dont know that the winner of Miss vs. Witc can be called an upset, and it would seem Dayton and QC are outmatched.

Will keep up with both. Days Inn Bloomington still might have rooms available, only 1.4 miles from stadiuim if anyone still looking for a Motel.

The Days Inn off I-55? Good luck with that...

We will all have to compare hotels when we get back...

Heck when i went to Bloomington a few weeks back i went cheap and stayed at a Motel 6 and didn't have any issues. No reason to give up an arm and a leg for a one night stay.

Now the frankes are adding side shows during the playoff intermissions now. They have officially jumped the shark. Time for new owners. IMO.

Maybe Snuff the Advertiser will loosen up some purse strings to entertain us. I heard Burgee is into matching half of whatever contributions are made.

Am I the only one who thinks that drawing of his wife looks like Alfred E. Neuman?

The funny thing is you guys have no idea what I sponsor!

JR1
Thu, 03/31/2011 - 11:19pm

The even funnier thing is, I could actually care less.... I dont say that to be spitefull or anything like that; but I go to the games for the hockey, nothing else. I stopped getting the program years ago because they had become nothing but junk mail with a Komet's picture on the front. The only time I even take notice of advertising at Komets games is to cringe at the amount of advertisements that litter the ice at the Coliseum. The freaking Hyundai advertisements are larger than the Komets logo's!!! Unreal...

JR1
Thu, 03/31/2011 - 11:53pm

An FYI.... 3 Berry conference games last night... Texas held on to beat Odessa, Allen beat Rio Grande Valley and Mississippi thumped Tulsa... Tulsa was the only home team to lose last night....

Well shucks I have been trying for years to get them to replace the center ice area with my logo but they won't budge...KIDDING.
Truthfully if you are a regular at games then the advertising in the program wouldn't be where we'd target you anyway since it is proven that the 3000-5000 regulars/STH buy probably no more than 10% of the programs each game.
But I hope they go far both as fan and advertiser since as the playoffs continue the casual fan starts to have more and more of a presence. It takes the Komets alot more effort to sell seats for the playoffs than the regular season. Along with the lack of sponsors there are also few if any groups since the playoffs are on short notice and not all season ticket holders opt in for playoff tickets. So when you get 7000 in the building for playoffs half of them are the casual fans the programs are targetting.
I don't advertise on the ice. They have found far more creative and less intrusive ways to get my name out there. But I don't begrudge or get annoyed by the boards or the ice. It just means the Komets and the local business economy are doing well enough to fill those spaces. That should be taken as a good sign.

And for the record I think the stunt man is a great idea. Scott Sproat has done it again!

JR1

The boards, I agree with you....the ice is where we differ... At some point a team or league has to draw the line when it comes to the ice surface....

When I look down there it looks sloppy... I'm the type of consumer that if you are too intrusive, then I am much, much less likely to buy your product. All that crap on the ice, IMO, is like having someone sit next to me screaming thier products name into my ear all game long. Very annoying.

Same goes for all the stuff the PA guy has to speed read during breaks in the action. It becomes white noise... All the casual fans are sitting there talking to each other the whole game about everything; BUT hockey, so I doubt they hear who is sponsoring the PP, PK, etc...

I think the advertising is really targeting those fans who are past the "casual" fan status; but arent quite to the STH or diehard status yet...

BTW, after reading all (or most) of the comments from this blog and the Journal's, I'm surprised how overly confident the fans are in the Komets defeating Bloomy in this series....... I cant disregard so easily the K's record vs Bloomny this season (3-7) or for that matter the 3 games they lost to Bloomy in March.... The style of play that Christie has Bloomy playing this season seems to be suited perfectly for the playoffs. They trap you to death and then capitalize on your mistakes when you get frustrated and try to force the play...

I think the wild card is Boucher... If he can elevate his game (ONCE AGAIN) in the playoffs and steal one or two games himself then they could have a chance...

Did I mention to anyone that during the playoffs I will be eating potato wedges during the first intermission, I am hopeful I can target the die hard k's fan since I spend all season targeting the casual fans...and I bet none of you even know if I use ketchup or not!
