Was just crunching some more numbers. Thus far, the K's have scored 2 or fewer goals 11 times (including being shutout twice). They've scored 3 or more goals 5 times. On the other hand, their opponents have scored 2 or fewer goals 6 times (no shutouts), while scoring 3 or more goals 10 times. Regarding when these goals are being scored, if you look at all the K's goals, it's been across the board -- 12 in the first, 12 in the second, and 11 in the third. But if you look at just the first goal scored, you begin to notice some interesting trends. The K's have scored their first goal in the first 30 minutes of the game 8 times (including 5 times in the first 10 minutes). But in 6 games, their first goal didn't come until at least the halfway point of the second period (8 if you count the shutouts). The K's opponents have scored their first goal within the first 30 minutes of the game 14 times. Only twice did the opposing team not get on the scoreboard until the halfway point of the second period or later.

Half of the Komet's games have been decided by one goal (one goal difference) win or lose, including one overtime. Combine that with the opponents getting the lead first and having strong first periods (thank you Wendy) a pattern is obvious, or maybe two are.

In the past we've seen teams that were good at coming from behind, especially if the difference was only one goal. We've also seen teams that can come out and either dominate the first period or at least not get dominated.

So far this team can do neither. The problem isn't with goal tending. The problem isn't with defense. The problem is with goal scoring, period. The problem isn't which goal tender is doing what or which defense man is or isn't doing what, it's what the forwards aren't doing.

Even when the K's did hold them off until halfway through the second period or later, it was still 50/50 -- won 1, lost 1. So yeah, it's not just about getting more goals early. It's about getting more goals, period.

Now Might is Yogi Berra? It's pretty easy to be associated with greatness on this blog for not doing much. Can anyone name current players to use as examples??
