Kalamazoo signs O'Connor

The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announce they have agreed to terms with forwards Sean O'Conner, Erik Johnson and defenseman Matt Krug for the upcoming 2009-10 season; per team policy, the terms of the contracts will be undisclosed.

One of the top rookies in the International Hockey League a season ago, O'Conner joins the K-Wings after spending last season with the Fort Wayne Komets.

Posting 47 points (23 goals, 24 assists) in only 59 games, O'Conner was fifth among all first-year IHL players in scoring and was tied for third among all rookies with a +20.

Good Luck Sean! However, there is nothing to be proud of in Kalamazoo. I hope Paul Picard honors your contract better than he did his.

Bitter-Sweet. Good that Sean got signed...bad that it was K-Zoo. Nothing against the fans there, the mgmt. doesn't deserve Sean. It is a shame. It really is nothing more than a lateral move at best anyways. Shoulda stayed a Komet another year.

its probably a better chance for sean since the echl is affiliated with the N.H.L. he will be getting a lot more exposure from N.H.L. scouts.

blake, do you ever see any scouts up in the press box anymore since we switched to A.A. just curious to know if the players in this league get any looks from the higher ups.

Good luck to O'Conner. He was a pretty good player and hope he makes it in Kalamazoo. Go Tincaps and Mad Ants!

I can't repeat what I said when I first read this, I'd get chucked into the penalty box for a longer period of time than my screen name. Here's the PG version... "Darn it, I'm really bummed out by this news!"
I agree with Hit, I'm happy that Sean's moving up, but why did it have to be KZoo?!?

K-Zoo is the enemy. They tick me off. I hope they finish in last place this season and Pickard fails. He deserves it.

I hope he's gone before the season is a quarter over, to the AHL.

I say good luck to Sean O'Connor. He improved tremendously as the year went on. I think when Dominic Osmond was traded it opened up a spot for O'Connor and he took advantage of it. He was one of the better players on the ice the last twenty games of the season and in the playoffs. As I posted in the other blogsite I think a lot of the credit goes to Al Sims. He has a knack of teaching young players and making them better. For Sean O'Connors sake I hope Nick Bootland can do the same thing although I'm not sure he can. ( In my opinion playing for Nick Bootland is better than the rumors of him going to Wheeling and playing for Puhalski-unless you want to go to sleep from boredom.) That probably wasn't fair was it?

OC was one of my favorites last season. I will certainly miss him and I wish him nothing but the best...no matter who he plays for!
