Opening Arguments

Keep it coming

Didn't the federal government just spend $700 billion of our money to address this problem?

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jill Long Thompson used a Friday appearance in Jeffersonville to talk up a plan that would use mediators to renegotiate mortgages on the verge of foreclosure.

It's part of a legislative package for which she would push to address home loan foreclosures if elected next month.

Fine.  Let's have the feds buying up the most toxic of the mortgages and the state mediating for those about to become so, and, while we're at it, let's have a new county program to give the mortgage holders stress counseling. But if city police show up at my door demanding whatever loose cash I have to take everybody out to dinner, I'm drawing the line.

If she's not smart enough to understand the disastrous implications of letting the government subvert contract law, you better hope she doesn't get elected to anything.

Why on Earth would anyone (a bank, credit union, private investor) enter into a contract knowing ahead of time that if the borrower defaults, some bureaucrat can just drop in and change the terms to favor the borrower????? WTF????

Does anybody else see the disastrous consequences of this???????

Tim:
My list of things that CAN (and possibly WILL) go bad because of this debacle grows by the hour.

(Even Chernobyl didn't have THIS kind of "fallout")
