Keeping on

While we wallowing in the "what went wrong with Katrina" reminiscences this week, let's not overlook the continuing debacle:

After the hurricane, newspapers around the world showed photos of New Orleans under headlines that shouted: "America's shame." In truth, New Orleans was America's shame long before Katrina. In large part the residents of the Big Easy were victims of the predatory behavior of their own politicians. Louisiana already ranked among the bottom five of all the states in crime, poverty, health care and school performance; the murder rate in New Orleans today is 10 times the national average.

For all the finger-pointing this week, Congress hasn't spent much more than a dime to clear away the debris of corruption, patronage, welfare dependency, high taxes and racial division of decimated neighborhoods. What is still lacking in the life of New Orleans is the vital architecture of local capitalism.

What's that saying? If you keep doing what you've been doing, you'll keep getting what you've been getting.

I agree that New Orleans had many of these problems before the hurricane. Nagin sold them out not to mention the Governor. The word incompetence comes to mind. These people stupidly re-elected Nagin. I guess blaming someone else is easier than being accountable. We seen what happened when we passed out $1000 debit cards. Even the cops were pillaging the stores. Until the black community starts living their life based on christ and not their race, they will never get ahead. I didn't send a dime to the cause. Most of my charitable donations go to animals. They really don't know better. Nagin and a host of other elected officials should be in jail.

Please explain how the black community is living their life based on race. Feel free to continue w/ the pseudo-racist generalizations. It truly helps your holier-than-thou, morally superior christ-like demeanor...

OJ Simpson-does that ring a bell? It is ultra liberals like you that hurt the black community and poor people in general. You think everything they do is ok. Ever stand in line behind someone on welfare and see what they buy? They eat better than me. Shrimp, ribs, frozen pizzas-my hard earned tax dollars are paying for that. Give them all the free crap they want, don't make them accountable or responsible. They drive up to the food bank in a Lexus and get free food. Doesn't look like this has helped them much. People may not like it but there is much more crime on the southside of Ft Wayne than anywhere else. If they don't like something they riot. When people choose to live their life right as opposed to those who don't, yes that makes us morally superior. Keep making excuses for them.

For future reference, if you have to erect a ridiculously exagerrated strawman to make your point - you're probably way off base.
