Tailing the Komets

Komets up 3-2 after 2

They are playing pretty good defense, and so far referee Colin Kronforst hasn't had the same impact on this game as he had on Wednesday. Guy Dupuis has two power-play goals, which is interesting because the power play has had a terrible time getting the puck out of its own zone so far tonight. Colin Chaulk has two assists. Komets can make up some more ground in the standings with a

DID ANYONE ELSE SEE HOW FAR OUT OF THE GOAL REITER WAS ON BLOOMY'S 3RD GOAL?!?!? seriously he was at least 10 feet out of the blue! How can anyone defend that?

Thanks, Reiter, you cost us the game! Stay in the net where you belong!!! We pay you to be a goalie, stay in the goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry thats his style and it wasnt his fault. says a lot about this team when they cant even stand up for a teammate. i thought they would take off and climb thru the standings but it looks like they dont have one anothers back so what do they really care about other than their own stats????

I understand it's his style but obviously his style sucks! How does he better defend the goal 20 feet away from it?

Reiter doesnt get defended on here like Warner does when he blows games? That doesnt make sense.

Komets seemed to have a hard time getting the puck out of their zone tonight. It was nice seeing Curadeau put the body to people tonight though.

we aren't moving up the standings because all of a sudden this team can't win on home ice. Komets won 1 game at home since dec. 29 but, the komets haven't lost on the road since before christmas. A home ice win would be nice....

this is the same reiter who was here before.....he is who he is.....a good goalie for this league....this team reminds me of the year when rockfords last year in the league when we had a very skilled team but lacked in the physical side of it.....we will do well for the rest of the year but when it comes to playoffs we will fail because tonight was an example.,......we got pushed around and didnt have an answer for it......sry frankes and sims but chaulk and other players will play more confindent with a physical team or player around them that will defend them......congrats on ks for at least gettiing a couple pts on last nights game

but like i said, if they wont stand up for their teammates it wont help them to gel as a team. reiter comes out of the net to cut the angle and sometimes it doesnt work just like a stay at home goaler who tries to cut the angle but doesnt come out as far. they get burned too! curadeau threw a few checks but needs to throw a few assists and goals too! i thought he and pc were pretty much non factors tonight but then thats just my opinion.

It never works!! The only time it appears to work is when the opposing team doesn't get the rebound because if they get the rebound they've got an open net because Reiter isn't playing Goalie anymore!!

Seriously, KometsfanX tone it down a little bit.

Take a deep breath.

Game-winning goal, there was nothing Reiter could do about it. Guy got caught up ice, then stopped halfway between Reiter and the shooter coming back so there's no way he could have seen it.

right now, the Komets' defense needs some help. After watching that power play tonight, anybody still think they don't need Warner to help move the puck up?

Said it before and will say it again. Reiter should be traded and a YOUNGER goalie should be brought in to back up Boucher.
Time to look towards the future. Boucher was one of the few older guys I wanted back but I want him to play 75% of the games and start giving a look to some youth at the position.
True enough there are quality vets around every year but with some salary cap relief from getting out from Reiters contract they might be able to then sign/trade for a front of the net power forward.
Putting on my GM hat :) I am sure others would do otherwise.

as i have said warner is an offensive side of a dman he is doesnt help on the def side of the puck.........we have had a problem on that side all year....so dont contribute our d problems on him being out....we have had the problem all year......this is the year we take a step down and maybe next.........frankes embarassing as they are want a ihl back in the next 2 years and thats a fact........just hope it doesnt happen

Ok Calm tone: I'm just tired of him getting caught out of the net and everyone going "oh Reiter played the game of his life". In fact he proved it tonight he stayed in Goal for once and made an amazing acrobatic save! But if the other team gets the rebound, he gets burned everytime.

As soon as we quit checking, Bloomington skated around us at will. I found myself checking to see how many Bloomington jerseys were on the ice. Always felt like there were too many. We had trouble clearing the puck out of our end. Almost wished they would have picked it up and thrown it. Don't like the combo of Cury and P.C. Glad to see Guy get the 2 goals. Nice to see Bob Chase honored on his 85th birthday.

Sat, 01/22/2011 - 11:15pm

OK, then how about some of the defensemen maybe clear the rebound like they are supposed to? Reiter wasn't great tonight, but what's he supposed to do? On the third goal Jason Dale skates untouched all the way around the net and nobody, NOBODY picks him up on the other side so he's shooting wide-open from 10 feet. At best, that's a 50-50 chance for any goaltender. Sometimes he has to come out and challenge the shooter to cut down the angle or make the target smaller. It's either that or stay deep in his net and give the shooter a bigger target. It's a balance.

And right now Jason Dale is playing at an MVP level.

Well nobody really stood out tonight, other than Dupuis and his 2 goals. Maybe they were tired after last nights late game and drive home. Reiter scares me to death. Wanders too much. And Shrock still doesn't seem right to me. He skated well and fast but not really much else. If this team could win 60% of its home games we would be in the middle of the pack. Maybe there are too many fans at the games. They can win on the road when there are 2000-3000 fans but in front of 7000-8000 at home its a different story. Really frustrating.

Yeah Reiter likes to wander a bit to much. Thought we were starting to get it in gear to move up. The second period waved off goal that cost it a two goal lead. Just shows this league needs some better zebras to call these games and maybe some of the NHL's goal cams iknow our building is so equipted just get behind them and GOKOMETS

All AA players including goalies have flaws in their game. Reiter wanders. Boucher lets in soft goals stick side. Skaters are a step slow for AAA.........
Rob Nolan I like but I wouldn't say he is better than either of the two playing here this year. If you had let Boucher walk and signed Nolan I'd say it's a wash on skill but Boucher clearly has playoff success that sets him apart.

Snuf, the goalie expert.........lol. Whatever. Anyways, despite the "OLD MANS" 2 goals, he ultimately cost his team the game by his stupid play to throw the puck at the net with a minute left in the game with everyone, including himself, caught deep. Watch the replay people! STUPID. And then the Thunder come dowm on a 4-2 rush and socre the game winner. Thanks GUY!!! And both goals last night=GUY's fault. Get rid of him already. Ask the players off the record how they feel about him............LOL

If you want Warner back for the powerplay, then bring him back as a forward and let him take PC's spot on the PP... Otherwise, he's a huge liability on defense....

This team is what it is at this point in the season... A sub .500 club trying to scratch its way into the playoff picture.

I have been harping on the defense all season long.... We have a former NHL defenseman as our head coach and we have had problems ALL year getting the puck out of our own zone. Why is that? Personnel or System's? They need to figure this out and start making changes. IMO, its a combination of both. Except for Molle, every d-man we have on the roster played in the IHL last season. A league where if you missed your assignment you could grab on for dear life and negate the mistake. A league where you could pummel people in your own zone and get no call. A slower league with systems designed for the more methodical play. I really like some of these D-men; but some have to go...

Change up the D-zone systems... Home run passes thru the neutral zone dont work, having 1 d-man skate out of the zone with the puck doesnt work. And they havent worked all season. Make a change for cripes sake! Teams in the CHL put ALOT more pressure on the puck than teams did in the IHL. We will continue to see multiple giev aways in our own zone each game until something changes.

IHL3 talk.... From now on, anyone who says the K's are just waiting to return to the IHL version 3 this time should be required to give 5-7 other cities that will line up to recreate that mess... If not then delete the post...lol

Besides Ft Wayne and a possible Kinney lead Flint team, who else is there in the "IHL" footprint that will make up a viable league?

Should the Frankes just split away from a legitamite pro league and just become the Harlem Globetrotters on ice? They can have Kinney make a fictitious Flint Generals team and they can just travel around the midwest putting on a "show". The Komets can Beat Flint 23-1 every night and stage a bunch of WWF like fights. Get your tickets early, the Komet Globetrotters are coming to town.....

If the IHL3 comes back, this is what it might as well come back as because that is how it will be viewed.......

The stats may say he only faced 4 SOG in the first period, but Rides came up big a couple times, and took away chances that won't show up in the stats column.

I'm not sure what folks expect from our goalies when the opposing team can tour around the back of the net like they're on an amusement ride, come out in front and fire without getting slowed down at all.

I'm not sure about the GWG. Blake says Rides was screened. Maybe, but he probably wants that one back anyway.

As to the bloggers who harp on Reiter moving too far from the crease. If a goalie faces four high-probability situations in a game, the type that have a 50/50 chance of leading to a score, and by being mobile the goalie takes away 3 of those 4 situations, then he's done his job really well, even if the one he gives up is ugly.

On the offensive end, we don't cycle the puck well, we routinely fail to get the goalie moving post-to-post, and it seems to me we take a path to the goal that makes it easy for the goalie to figure out where the shot is likely to come from. Sometimes it's like the players are listening to the fans who are always yelling "shoot-shoot" every time we have a puck on a stick within 40 feet of the net.

Throw in the possibility of Wheeling and Flint and you might have a 10 team league. This also assumes old IHL towns like Rockford, Peoria and Cincy wouldn't be interested.
Yeah yeah yeah...the owners from Quad Cities said they are a CHL team. Let's see if they change their mind after losing a ton of money travelling to texas. The great thing about being an owner is you can change your mind.

Andy Sherman...yes I am. Thanks for noticing!

The IHL will only be viewed as a joke by people who aren't happy no matter what changes are made.

The bottom line is if that lineup of cities I just posted came together and formed a league and called itself the IHL some people would close their mind to it. Call it the CCHL (Captain Crunch Hockey League) and those same people would be all ready to give it a chance.
If the league name is what you are most concerned about then there is truly no pleasing that type of fan.
Any midwest league must include viable ownership in the 8 cities I mentioned. St Charles is a key because they have a nice arena and there is money around there. That is the only city on my list without a team now.
I would be willing to see them make a go of it in Flint but I would not have it be a core franchise. In other words I would want at least 8 teams. They would need to be team 9 or 10.
I beleive minor league hockey by 2013-14 will be very very different. I would doubt the CHL as it exists now will still exist. Same for the ECHL. Hockey needs to learn from baseball. Cross country trips are not necessary and are not good for fans, teams or owners.
