I hate shootouts! Can't we just end the game in a tie? That way no one gets the extra point to move ahead in the standings because of some fluky goal made in the shootout.

I don't really like shootouts. I compare it to kissing your sister. Nice girl, love her to death just do not want a big juicy sloppy kiss. I vote for the tie. One point each way. They played for 65 minutes and resolved nothing. That game they were even. It should stay that way.

I know that historically, hockey games were permitted to end in ties. But as a red-blooded American, I'm sorry, but real sports don't end in ties. There's a winner and a loser. I'd be open to playing the 4 on 4 overtime until a winner emerges, but there is no guarantee of a speedy resolution. And considering how many fans walk out of close games just because they run over, I find it hard to believe that people would want that. The shootouts are okay by me. They are just as valid as a penalty shot or a shorthanded breakaway with a lone shooter facing the goalie in my mind. But yes, I know that a lot of hockey purists despise them.

I think Wendy just called all of us "purists" old. Man, that stings! Did anybody else read between the lines and get that? LOL. Watch it, Missy! LOL.

The way I remember it, ties were just as unsatisfying as lost shootouts, so it doesn't really matter. Remember when Ken Hitchcock used to switch goalies just for the shootouts?

If I played I would want to shoot first, I would speed right in and run the goalie, then we could finish it man to man, I'd thump him then start with their bench! Burgee - Ice Enigma, from shootout to knockout, how to win at hockey, as told to Blake Sebring, on sale soon.

Um, I think I'm going to need my share of that money up front. LOL.

Er... Is there something wrong with being a purist? I thought it was kind of noble to oppose things that you feel compromise the integrity of the sport. I just happen to disagree when it comes to shootouts. But that's fine. Nothing wrong with disagreeing.

Yes, have fun tomorrow, Blake! May you and Chase sign books until your hands cramp up. :D

Yes, I remember Hitchcock switching goalies. He liked Torch (can't remember his name) in shootouts.

I also remember someone from the Cleveland organization (GM?) talking about how he hated the idea and IIRC even voted against it but saw the irony because Cleveland was very good in shootouts.

I've never been in favor of them, always figured if the game ended in a tie then the weight of winning or losing shouldn't rest on the goalie's shoulders even though it doesn't count as a loss for them.

Blake, the way the Komets have been playing lately, maybe you should put your tinman on the ice. He could not do any worse. Looking forward to your new book.
