Tailing the Komets

Komets are not signing Shaf

The Komets met with Konstantin Shafranov today and reached a mutual decision not to sign the veteran forward at this time. He will continue to work with the team as an associate coach dealing with the forwards.

``That doesn't mean that if something happened and we were in need we wouldn't go to him for a week or two,'' general manager David Franke said. ``Right now, we're not going to make an official move.''

The Komets did make an official move today to put defenseman Danko Mironovic on the 10-day IR with a bad back. That frees up a spot for defenseman Mike Ratchuk who has been sent here by Springfield on a conditioning stint. He could be here a week or longer, it all depends on what the Blue Jackets want to do with him. Rookie center Chris Francis has also returned.

That gives the Komets 19 players on the active roster, but Ratchuk does not count against the official roster for five games because he has been sent down from the AHL. Weird CHL rule. The Komets are going to take Neil Musselwhite along for the trip this weekend because he's eligible to come off IR on Saturday. That's in case someone gets injured Friday in Shreveport.

Franke said he hopes Brandon Warner can resume playing next week, and Leo Thomas is still two or three weeks away.

Hope the Dankster didn't pull something in that beatdown of a fight on Saturday. :-)

Looks like Ratchuk can really move the puck if the internet is to be believed.

Warner should take all the time he needs to make sure he is healthy. He's on the IR quite a bit..

Great news!
Maybe Shaf can use his star status in his native country to recruit some talent to the Komets in the coming years. No doubt he can be a valuable part of the future of this team.

Funny that both times we had extra healthy D-men, Danko goes on the IR........good was to escape the chopping block I guess.......

Andy, I don't believe that's his choice....he's injured or not, and if he's not and they are playing the "game", then management decides who goes. If they wanted to release him, they would.

But if they loved him he wouldn't be IR'ed would he?

Sooo....the K's don't love anyone they put on IR? Yeah......THAT makes sense. Maybe he's not playing a hot game right now....someone's got to sit, so who else would it be? Lardner? Chaulk? My coach loves my kid (top 3 scorer on his team, and top d-man), but he has sat him when he has had to sit someone. Every player needs a break from time to time, and maybe Danko has an injury you don't know about. It's happened before. It will happen to your favorite player. Watch and see.

Remember earlier in the season, Danko sat out for quite a while, and when asked why, he replied "not my turn to play." I think it is fairly obvious with all the movement we have that there will be liberties taken with the IR shuffle.
