Tailing the Komets

Komets are red-hot

The Komets won their sixth consecutive game overall and sixth in a row on the road Friday night, 4-1 over Bloomington. They'll try to stretch both streaks to seven at Flint tonight before hosting the Generals on Sunday.

P.C. Drouin scored a goal and two assists and Nick Boucher made 26 saves for the Komets, including stopping a penalty shot in the second period against Bloomington's Bill Bagron. Boucher had turned the puck over and in the ensuing scramble threw his stick at the puck. The Komets were leading 2-0 at the time.

“We just missed a goal at the other end, and then we mishandled the puck,'' Komets coach Al Sims said. “Then he missed the net on the penalty shot. It was a pretty big moment.”

The Komets also got goals from Guy Dupuis, Bobby Phillips and Matt Syroczynski.

Fort Wayne allowed only five shots on goal in the second period and out-shot the PrairieThunder 28-27 in the game.

“We played really well in the neutral zone and slowed them down,” Sims said. “They had trouble getting to the red line and into our end with any speed.”

Leading goal-scorer Leo Thomas returned to the Fort Wayne lineup after missing Wednesday's game with a sore knee, but Konstantin Shafranov missed the game with the flu. Komets General Manager David Franke also said Friday the team would like to hold David Hukalo out of the lineup until Wednesday's home game against Bloomington if possible. Hukalo is on injured reserve with torn back muscles but is just about ready to play.

Charlie, Yahoo won't let me in, says I'm not allowed to view because I'm not it this league. I signed out of my Yahoo ID and it wouldn't work either unless I was signed in. Oh well.....

just saw why hockey will never b e popular on network tv. blackhawks vs the wings and theres a scrum in the corner and a couple of punces are started to be thrown and wonderful nbc cuts immediatly to commercial. game cuts back on and they show each guy in the box but the announcers dont say who they are, what the penalites were or even show a replay, they just talk about how the teams do four on four. anyone but a seasoned hockey fan would be lost in what had happened. sad.

Having to B2 the game tonight and I find it hard to believe that we are struggling agianst a club that is 7-21-3 on the road? Hard to get a feel for a game watching on the computer but while the K's have plenty of shots they still fail to get any type of traffic in front of the net or it seems to be the problem

for a game that started with a fight 2 seconds in, the komets played flat and uninspired. chualk was the only one who looked like he cared and thanks to bertram for sticking up for his teammates. boucher sucked and the nobody else wanted to hit. 50 meaningless shots and maybe two hits. not playoff type hockey but then again im arogant so i dont know what im talking about!

Flint's a hard working club that has gotten progressively better as the year has gone along...

Couldn't agree more Churckitt just plain pathetic the last two nights. Flint 7-21-3 in road games this year and that was their frist win in two full seaons on K's ice...

I will look on the bright side when commenting on the outcome of the contest tonight between the K's and Gens........

At least one Franke financed team won tonight!!! :)

Blake this is your fault for jinxing things!
Congrats to Flint. I am sure the 3 fans who can afford tickets (and flap jackets) to go to a Generals game should be proud of their team. Seriously though as was said above the Generals are putting something together and that is a good thing. The bottom teams should improve as the season goes on and make it harder for the teams in contention. Komets flat? 56 shots may say otherwise. Sure, many were not quality scoring chances but still, 56 pucks on net is still 56 pucks on net. Let's give it up to the guy on the other end who put his body in front of 55 of them. Sergei Zvyagin has been a good minor league and European league goalie for many many years.

Really. Again? Horrible.

56 shots 2 goals...Production was HORRIBLE

Anyone else notice how hard Woods was trying to get a penalty with about 5:30 left in the 3rd down 3-2?

Thanks, mightbite! And thanks for the pucks, too. And you know I would look so good in that Woods jersey. It is pretty awesome. It really was a closer game than some people are giving credit for. Bert really did stick up for his team, I was so proud of him tonight! And that guy was already missing his teeth, so he went home looking like Bert really whooped his butt, which is even better. ;)

Mark21 soooo no credit whatsoever to the Flint goalie? Just the Komets being "horrible"?

Janice
Sun, 03/07/2010 - 9:53pm

It doesnt matter to Mark, if the Komets lose they are horrible or pathetic. 1st, Flint played better then the Komets for one, they double teamed all night and they wore the Komets down, Syro? not real sure whats going on there..but if he doesnt want to play,,,then get off the ice. Can someone tell me why Warner plays for us again? Hes not 100%, get him off the ice, he was getting beat all over the place. Chewy played his heart out, Chaulk played well...But Flint had the better team tonight and the goalie was great. Nice job Flint.
As for the Komets, they need to find away to win on a more regular basis. Can they? I believe they can! Go Komets!

Woods actually showed some grit tonight. Can't score, no speed, but he was hitting and trying to draw a penalty.

Why do players dive and constantly complain when Langdon is calling a game? He's not going to give it to you. If I know it, the Komets should all know. I like Langdon. Pete Cichy, on the other hand is the most annoying official in the IHL to me... Maybe he only has an attitude in Fort Wayne since its the scene of MacMillan's tossing of him?

Mark21
Sun, 03/07/2010 - 10:20pm

Janice...I never said the Komets were horrible...you read to much into it. PRODUCTION WAS HORRIBLE the only credit goes to thier goalie..who by the way was OUTSTANDING...he is pretty much the only reason they won...when you stop 54 of 56 shots...the goalie is the star...

Warner is on the team because his +/- stats are amazing... or so I'm told.....

Sean O'Conner has more shots on goal than any other Komet this season.

Just watched the saskatoon blades and calgary hitmen on the NHL network, those kids 18/19 yrs old looked like they could give any team in IHL a good game.

Cha ching. Naysaying whiners. It was a nice close game, score just didn't work out right. Not even Obama stimulus money could buy us a goal tonight (we kept throwing the puck at the problem and it didn't fix itself).

Cha Ching ++JR. JR is at +/- 2 for the night for those of you scoring at home. Warner was also on the ice, so boost his stats as well hahahaha! :)

Wow, JR and Frozen Water bring on the comedy show. Glad you can amuse yourself so easily because you're not amusing anyone else. Must be Jay Leno fans, too.
