The Komets' road warriors got the job done again.
The Komets won at Port Huron 4-3 on Wednesday night to pull three points ahead of the IceHawks for second place in the International Hockey League. This was Fort Wayne's last regular-season trip to Port Huron this season.
Nick Boucher made 30 saves in goal for the Komets to improve his three-year Fort Wayne record during games at Port Huron to 12-2-0 with a goals against average under 2.00. Leo Thomas also scored two goals to push his road total for the season to 18, compared to nine at home.
``He was all over the ice, killing penalties and blocking shots,'' Komets coach Al Sims said. ``He was a dominating force for us tonight."
Justin Chwedoruk and Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock also scored for the Komets who have won seven of their last eight games on the road and 10 of 12 overall. The Komets have the most road wins in the league now with an 18-12-1 record.
``We lost a little bit of confidence at home, and we got it gone on the road with four wins in a row, and that kind of helped our home game last week,'' Sims said. ``Then we came back and won tonight in a place that is very difficult to play. We got no help from anybody tonight and still found a way to get it done."
Port Huron out-shot the Komets 33-29 and have two more power-play chances. Boucher stopped all 16 shots against him in the third period. Thomas scored the game-winning goal on Adam Russo four minutes into the third period.
``Once it got to 3-3, Bouch really stood tall,'' Sims said. ``We're a good defensive hockey team, and we can shut teams down. We also really wanted to beat Russo after he beat us the last time we played him."
Boucher is now 10-4-0 on the road this season compared to 5-4-1 at home. Tim Haun is 16-2-1 at home, but is 8-8-1 on the road.
``Bouch will play more on the road, and Timmy will play more at home,'' Sims said. ``It's kind of like we did with (Kevin) Reiter and Bouch two years ago."

And Muskegon lost, too.
We are all happy about that one!!
I don't think Pittsburgh Penguins will want to play the Devils in the playoffs 0-6.
Hey, great interview on the GOTW tonight, Blake! Always nice to see what a competent interviewer can do.
Leo is building a nice resume for team MVP...
I agree JM... Thomas has been the most consistent Komet this year. I cant remember a game where I thought he didnt show up ready to play at the top of his game...
Good article, and good interview--I love IHL hockey but It's hard to find good coverage. If you are looking for good programming on your favorite local team, you can watch it any time here: http://watchindiana.tv/2010/03/komets-defenseman-talks-consistent-play/
I want to win the Woods Army jersey.
And I want to steal it from you....it better have a good, solid, unbroken tie-down on it...LOL...you might be bigger and stronger than me, but us smaller people are inventive. I might buy you a beer or two and see if I can "see if that Woods jersey fits me"...ha ha...
