Tailing the Komets

Komets blast Muskegon 7-2

After struggling through the first 24 games of the season to find goals, the Fort Wayne Komets pounded the Muskegon Lumberjacks with a season-high in a 7-2 win on Saturday night.

The Komets scored four goals during the first period while holding the Lumberjacks to only three shots. The Komets pushed the lead to 6-0 before the game was half over, ruining the night for a crowd of 3,875 at L.C. Walker Arena.

``We know if we're going to challenge for the league title, we have to beat teams like Muskegon and Port Huron when we play them,'' Komets coach Al Sims said. `We came out ready to do what it took to win. We got a couple of breaks. Instead of going off the post and out, we had two that went off the post and in. It was nice to get seven goals and give everybody a little confidence.''

Colin Chaulk scored two goals and had four points on the night. Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock scored twice and Leo Thomas, Frankie DeAngelis and David Hukalo each scored once for the Komets who broke a three-game losing streak to Muskegon. Nick Boucher made 26 saves in goal as the Komets out-shot the Lumberjacks 33-28.

Chaulk's line of Konstantin Shafranov and David Hukalo combined for three goals and eight points. Chaulk has four goals and 10 points over his last four games.

``I think it's a big thing to have two good puck handlers on the line with him,'' Sims said. ``He's the finisher on the line right now and we need him to keep it up. I think his intensity has picked up quite a bit. He's a winner and he doesn't like to lose. He's back to playing the way he does when he's in that frame of mind. He's working his butt off and it is producing the results.''

The Komets played without forward Tomas Klempa who was unable to return from Omaha, Neb., because of the weather. Forward Brad MacMillan also sat out a one-game suspension from the International Hockey League but will play Sunday in Flint.

So if the team would have gone 16-0 would it be ok for them to ask for more money for the tickets already paid for this year?? I mean nobody expects the team they root for to not lose at all during the season so to give the fans something they were not expecting should be extra, right??? I am NOT a Colts fan; but have them shoved down my throat every week and in watching them all season I believe they have more than given the the fans thier money's worth and then some with all the comeback wins, bigtime plays, and a hell of a better defense than was expected. IMO

That's great JR. They have given us fans a good year up to 14 games. If they had played the game straight up yesterday and lossed, that is one thing, but they essentially threw the game. They should be fined in my opinion. They screwed up Vegas betting, and they also rigged the outcome of the playoff standings. The Jets don't deserve to make the playoffs. The Colts played 100% against other teams trying to make the playoffs and beat them.....so how is it fair that they throw a game against the Jets that knocks out other playoff contenders and keeps the Jets alive?

You can call me a tool, stupid, jerk, whatever you want....but the reason you play the game is to win. This was not a preseason game, and the only reason they played the Starters in Jack

maybe the Patriots will REST their starters vs. Houston= and the Texans will beat the colts

jacksonville, was so they would guarantee a sell-out crowd and lots of money coming into their last home game.

So yes, the fans at the game deserved the team giving their 100% effort to win that game. Or, they should have rested the starters in Jacksonville as well, and sat them the whole game in Indy yesterday.

You can't sit there and tell me that what they did is right. The Patriots played it out 100% when they were in the same situation.

I should have said lost in the last post...sorry.

I am not in the minority on this, the NFL including reporters, tv commentators, fans, other players, former players, etc....agree with what I am saying in about 95% of those people.

My opinion and I am sticking to it. I enjoy debating it with you JR. But I don't enjoy being called names and being attacked by others.

my point exactly. the colts didnt lay down when they played denver or baltimore but they sure let the jets pull into playoff contention when they really should have gotten their butts beat. so im sure the next time denver and baltimore play the colts they will have a little more incentive than usuall. your right frozen water, its not the colts job to get a team in or out of the playoffs, but to lay down like they did, they did effect the playoff picture of at least three teams. i just dont believe in resting players specially when you have a bye which gives you two weeks of rest. and every year that the colts rested guys they lost in the ist round of the playoffs. ive been a colt fan since 1958 and this was the worst slap in the face they have ever given their fans. just my opinion. oh and the colts job is to win every game possible not rest and go half speed. injuries are part of the game and yu deal with them. people do get hurt and usually its when they are timid and are trying to avoid injury. the colts have caused quite a stir in indy and now they are under pressure and have to get to the super bowl or they will always be thought of as quitters. its all over indy radio today not just my thoughts!

and another thing if you think theyve given their fans their moneys worth, what about the poor smuck who can only afford to go to one game so he loads the family up and spends a few hundred hard earned dollars to attend the jets game and hes treated to a lay down. did he get his moneys worth?

Ok, the last thing I will add to this (I hope) is that I stand by my original comment that the same people who are angry at the Colts for removing thier starters and losing thier chance at a perfect season would also be those at the front of the line declaring how angry they are for the Colts leaving thier starters in and getting injured in a meaningless game for the Colts. I guees if it were my team that I was following the only pressure I would want them under in the post season is the pressure to win the Super Bowl... Not the pressure to win the Super bowl + the pressure to keep a perfect season. I think this mental wear and tear is what eventually led to the Patriots demise in the Bowl...IMO... Nobody's perfect and there's nothing to say that the Colts starters wouldnt have let the Jets make a comeback and win Sunday either...

Would it have been nice for the Colt's to go undefeated? Yes
Would I rather the go unfeated and win the Super Bowl? You bet. If I have to take one or the other I'll take the Lombardi Trophy. Since I do not own the team I'll take whatever they can win now. Hit- I agree with you. JR your correct also. You know what so am I. I said all that and didn't call anyone any names. Now let's get back to hockey. Go Komets! Let's kick Daytons' butt tonight.

Hit: Sorry, I've been on the other blogs and haven't checked this one. Kind of thought people had moved on, totally my mistake. Just so you know, I was at the game. I payed $250 for my seat. Girlfriend paid the same for the seat next to me. Row 12, 50-yard line on the visitors' side. ANYONE who remotely follows the team and knows anything about the game of football and the team's past actions in this situation knew going into it that the chance for removing starters from the game was there. Caldwell has said that chance was there for the past two weeks. Am I disappointed I only got to see the top guys playing for 2 quarters and change? Of course. Would a win had been nice? Absolutely. Am I going to come on the Komets' blog and complain about it? Nope.

What I saw at the game, and pretty much constantly on ESPN since, was a look in all of the starters' eyes (and especially Peyton) of disgust and hunger. The team was reminded of what a loss feels like (even if they did not earn it). This loss ticked off the team (and again, ESPECIALLY Peyton) and I think it has made him into an unstoppable machine. I could be wrong on this, although I hope I'm not, but I think Peyton is more geared up now than ever.

As far as attacking opinions, you are no angel in that department. You have went after people numerous times on here when they do not agree with you, and that is fine. That's the point of a blog. Have fun with it or cry about it, it is your decision. It's nothing personal at all. If there is one thing that will get me riled more than discussing the Komets, it is discussing the Colts. You should see the fun in my house when IU and Purdue play!

So, if I upset you by disagreeing with you, I apologize. I cannot and will not say it won't happen again, because I don't want to put myself in the position of lying. However, no harm intended. Feel free to continue the conversation on here so you can have the last word if you'd like since I probably won't check back on this post again. I have a hockey game to watch tonight and a Jungle to rock. GO KOMETS!! GO COLTS!!! Oh man, and an Iowa game tonight?? BOILER UP!!! The cell battery is going to get a workout tonight!
