I would say that some of these guys mentioned in this well written account of the training camp thus far, are odds on favorites to make the team, but I better not mention it.

"There are a handful of players who need strong performances in Friday and Sunday's exhibition games with Dayton to have a shot at sticking with the team, but several of the youngsters are standing apart already. Left wing Stephon Thorne scored his third goal in three days during Thursday's scrimmage. Right wing Eric Yngwe scored his second goal, and left wing Tom Mele scored two goals. Center Jean-Michel Rizk continues to impress with his size, skating ability and willingness to go to the front of the net."

It's gonna be a exciting start to the season with all these young players playing!!! Lets Go Komets!!!!

Didn't think it was possible to put down any more on-ice advertisements at the MC... Sadly I was mistaken.

Lots of advertising = a good sign for the local economy.

Just ask Nascar how their advertising and sponsorships are doing.

At the same time, when do you reach the point of diminishing returns and all the ads simply become white noise? The one I did notice was the giant Hyundai ad - I think it might be bigger than the Komets logo at center ice.

Glad everyone supports the Komets. I am sure name recognition goes a long way in advertising. I wonder if people turn it off with it being so much, but some of the 2 million advertisements at the MC have to be sneaking into your mind.

Keep in mind the Komets get zero dollars from parking and food, have to pay rent for their building and souvenir sales offer VERY LITTLE profit and in many cases actually result in a loss.

Point being advertising provides a large portion of the revenue is generated by advertising. If you want the Komets to continue to operate the way they do and bring a quality team here then you had better hope the big boys in town continue to advertise.

The white noise question comes up in marketing all the time. If you are thinking about buying a car the Hyundai logo may very well get your attention. If you are looking for new cell phone service then the car advertising probably will slide right by you at least in the immediate. So the ads are there and target those who might have a product in mind. And there are some people out there that are loyal Komet fans who make it a point to do business with Komets advertisers. Again if you are a fan it makes sense to do it because if the Komets lose advertising revenue the product on the ice will suffer.

The only ad I ever (still do) recall is JEEP...Now what was it I associated with Jeep?

When was the last time the K's actually paid rent?...Hasn't it been that if we have over a certain amount the K's don't actually pay rent. Unless things have just changed all together.

Kyle, I know="the jeep girls" :)

They pay rent every gane by not getting full revenue from the gate each night.

It's like setting up at the good old Fort Wayne Lane Bryant Purse Riot.
Vendors there typically pay for their booth space. But if the venue said instead of paying rent we'll take the sales from the first ten of those bag things you sell, it is still paying rent.

I'm wondering how much advertising they'll see on the boards, ice, and walls at that blueprint for a successful franchise in Bloomington?

More than half way thru the 1st period, the K's are getting killed!

4-0 Wow....

3 fights so far: Bryant Molle, Warner, and Thorne

OUCH--Come on Komets--get the nerves under control and get it going!

Dayton has 2, 5 on 5 goals, 1 PP, and 1 shorty....

Hopefully our mostly young lineup can rebound against an experience laden Dayton squad tonight...

Maybe its just nerves but I am guessing some of the vets that are playing their spots are iffy at best. They had only 1 shot halfway thru the 1st period. Maybe a little pep talk at intermission will help. I don't care if they win this game or Sundays either. Just play well and improve and be ready for next Saturday when it counts.

Does anyone know the Komets did during the 3 fights? Would love to hear how Thorne did.

JR1
Fri, 10/14/2011 - 5:56pm

Sounds like Warner came to Drouin's defense (PC wouldnt go) and it was a hug fest....

Thorne did well at the start; but took some good shots late...

Bryant Molle took an early punch that bloodied him; but sounds like he demolished the guy after that...

Beech looks aweful from what I have been told. He is one I have been worried about and mentioned that his numbers were trending in the wrong direction the past couple season when he was signed... First game; but we shall see. If the plan is to let Boucher play 50-55 games then Beech going .500 for the season as a backup may work...

JR1

Gems score again.....

KometKrazy
Fri, 10/14/2011 - 6:06pm

I guess the K's can only hope that some decent goalies get cut and they can sign a decent backup if Beech doesn't pan out. Also just curious, who's all going to the opener next Saturday night and where are you sitting. I'll be with my son in Sec. 604 front row. Love those seats. No obstacles and can see entire ice at once.

Game isn't worth talking about....
Steve to answer your question if I was an advertiser in that market I would have a hard time plunking down too much money. One of the benefits of sports advertising is you become recognized by a

steady fan base. With a team like Bloomington where you never know from one year to the next if they will be around there is little incentive to advertise.

K's young squad loses 6-1 tonight...

Andrea
Fri, 10/14/2011 - 7:30pm

Anothet benefit to advertising in some markets are free season tickets.

Any update on the game? Who was in the lineup?

Mr Snufflupugus
Fri, 10/14/2011 - 7:39pm

Andrea I am sure Bloomington would be thrilled to give away tickets to advertisers. Still not sure if that would entice me to pull out my wallet. As an advertiser I want to build a loyal customer base. Komet fans for example have proven they are not only loyal to the team but to businesses that support them. Proof is in the pudding. Believe me if all of these companies covering the ice and boards were not seeing a real return on investment, and I am not talking about tickets, a jersey or any other bonus stuff, they would put their money elsewhere.
