Tailing the Komets

Komets clinch a playoff spot

Maybe the most interesting part of the game was Kevin Bertram going a little nuts on referee Tim Mayer for a cheap boarding call. Mayer was obviously reffing the scoreboard and not the game most of the night, and Bert had had enough.

This was the game in hand the Komets had on Port Huron, and as importantly, they picked up a point on third-place Muskegon which lost in a shootout at Kalamazoo. With 10 games left, the Komets trail Port Huron by one point

Oh, and Luciano Aquino was visiting in the locker room after the game.

So I'm kind of a noob to hockey (this is only my second year) but Aquino is my favorite player (I even named my dog after him). Can anything be read into his visit or was he just back for old-time's sake? I assume he's playing in a higher league, at least that's what I was told when I picked up my season tickets in the fall. What's the word on Aquino from the more seasoned Komets fans?

Couldn't make the game in person, but I remember my reaction reading the game sheet. "Hmmmmm... A boarding call... 10 minute misconduct... Game misconduct... Hoooo-kay." Must. Have. Video.

Yeah, I guess Aquino's team is out of contention at this point. Obviously he isn't here to sign with the Komets, but he has turned up a few times this season. Is there a reason for that other than just stopping in to say "hi" to some old friends?

Women = Girlfriend! Need I say more. Bertram's penalty was good. He earned every minute of his misconduct and game misconduct. Out of respect I can't write what he said. I know I never want him mad at me. At least where he can get a hold of me.

Any thoughts on the no-goal call on the Port Huron shot in the second period? From my angle in upper 213 it looked like a goal that hugged the ice and slipped out the back side as the net was tilted forward.

That would, of course, be the Bloomington shot in the second period.

Even though the goal judge lit the lamp the officiating was outstanding and made the correct call(?), it would be great if we could get that bozo more often.NOT!

The puck never went in the net. It did go between Boucher and the post and the Goaljudge was quick with the switch. What made it look like a goal and Bloomington was so upset about was the goal came up and in there oppinion the puck went under the net. The referee should have came over and said it was not a goal. He didn't thus the confusion. He got the call right just forgot to tell the fans.

From my viewpoint in 214, it sure looked as if it went in. I wasn't the only one in my row (1st row), that saw it go in.

"Women = Girlfriend!"

You mean regarding Aquino? Well, that's nice. I'd imagine most guys in his situation not wanting to get tied down to any one lady, but then hockey players do seem to be different in that regard.

I sit in 216 and I'm positive it crossed the goal line and went under the net as it was tilted. I saw it go straight through. The Thunder player started to celebrate and looked bewildered as to how it wasn't a goal. I think we dodged one there but the ref made up for it with all those horrible calls afterward. The boarding on Bertram was awful. He was raising his arm for a penalty befroe they hit the glass. It was a clean check but the ref anticipated a penalty. If we draw these terrible officials in the playoffs, it could suck.

After further review the video replay clearly was inconclusive on the goal no goal situation. Whatever BAM is smoking he needs to share!

Not sure there's any way the Komets could fit him under the salary cap at this point, either.

Not smoking a thing Burgee! Not a thing to drink either. You sit up in the posh nosebleed seats, so you couldn't see it anyway! I bet the ref from Friday and Sunday look Reeeaaaallll small from up there!

Someone has video of the no-goal? Couldn't see very well from my seat in 217, but I can tell you that the ref came over to the Bloomington bench before the 3rd period started and Skalde was giving him an earful. I really need to learn to read lips, all I could make out was the ref saying "It's not my fault" several times.
I did have a good view of Bert's hit, it was right in front of me, and I can't say I blame him for going "a little nuts". A clean hit, a hard hit, but a clean hit. I don't know where the league dug that ref up from, but they need to send him back there!
