Tailing the Komets

Komets clobbered by Dayton

Some players likely skated their way off the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday night during a 6-1 exhibition game loss at Dayton. The Komets fell behind 2-0 in the first period on a pair of unassisted goals and ever came close after that.

``They scored one breakaway and we had a  couple of other breakdowns that led to their goals,'' Komets coach Al Sims said. ``They got two on the power play. We just didn't play very well and commit to it tonight.''

Brandon Naurato scored Fort Wayne's only goal on a power play off assists from Matt Ward and Tyler Fletcher.

``Some kids showed they belonged here and some kids showed they didn't,'' Sims said. ``Maybe that's a good thing. Almost everybody was a minus tonight, and I can't say anybody really had a good game.''

Sims said the Komets will wait until Monday to announce their first cuts.

I think that there are going to be some guys not make the cut that will surprise us. Can't put my finger on who....but with 2 players coming from Springfield......we know One is a Forward and One is a Defenseman.

Just to see the possibilities of roster and lines:

Curadeau, Patrosso, Naurato
Leo, PC, OC
Ward, Schrock, ? (CBJ)
Fletcher

DeAngelis, Warner
Guy, Mironovic
Cescon, Phillips
? (CBJ)

Boucher/Reiter

I had read where our roster would be at 18 and we can play 17. No one knows for sure how the IR will work in this league....can the Komets hide players on the IR if need be? The number of players I listed was 10 Forwards, 7 D-Men, and 2 Goalies which is over the roster limit....I think.

Blake, do we know how many players the Komets will keep.

The final spot might come down to Ward or Fletcher.
If they keep a Brad Pawlowski, then one of the 6 returnee Defensemen will be gone....at least it seems. I also am not even figuring Rodger into the equation at all, because he has not played.....although I think he is practicing.

I am glad I am not making this decision. Someone will go that will be unpopular for sure.

Tough Decisions.

Hey Guys.....You ought to see the Box Score from the Colorado game with Odessa.....

Brad MacMillan is going to be in deep trouble. He got some pretty major penalties..I hear he jumped Van Drunen and got hit with an Attempt to Injure Penalty. Mario Joly left the bench after he had been in the penalty box as well.....Odessa was up 3-1, and ended up pulling their team off the ice in the third after MacMillan's event, and forfeited the game.

Check out the penalties.....wow.

With Brad's history I have a feeling he will be sitting for a month.

I thought the roster was 19 and play 18.

MacMillan is evil. Of course none of us know what happened, but I'm sure it was all MacMillan being a "thug".

The CHL is a place for cheapshot artists like Van Drunen to hide. The guy was cheap and spineless in Muskegon.

The Komest lose one pre-season game and they are "falling apart?"

Where do you get this from?

1) star player acts like he is better than team
2) 2 star goalies getting burned last night
3)exchange night tickets being moved to sec. 600
4) no Chaulk leadership
5)Dennis,Wendy,Tim not being able to post

I agree no Chaulk will hurt the team at the start of the year, but it's not like the team is a bunch of rookies thrown together...I am pretty sure Guy, Leo, PC, and Sims has enough experience together to make up for the loss of Chaulk.

How does your feelings about STH exchange night or three people not on a blog make the team play any better/worse? Get real!

JM, you know that you are my friend......

But I have to agree.....Mac was Evil in what he did last evening, as it may seem.

Just listen to what DieHard Colorado Eagles fans are saying about what happened last night. Fans that seem to be in agreement that they don't want Mac on their team because of what they saw Mac do last night. Look over at Greg Rajan's blog and read it for yourself....

And also check out this common themed comment from one of the fans at the game...this was one of the more tame comments I found:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was (un)fortunate enough to be in section P last night and had a full view of the MacMillan incident. There was nothing mutual about that, he hit the ice looking to fight and tried even before the puck dropped. He leaped over two guys to get to Van Drunen and cold cocked him when he wasn't looking. There was a massive pool of blood on the ice and the trainers couldn't get out to help him because the Eagles payers were too busy making sure they beat the **** out of all the remaining Odessa players on the ice. The look of horror on the Odessa goalies face as he pleaded the trainer to come help Van Drunen is something I will never forget, just awful. Again, there was nothing mutual about that incident.

I truly hope MacMillan has played his last game, no hockey team needs a guy capable of that.

I was also really disgusted by the Eagles fans last night for cheering this on with such fervor, they are usually fun to watch a game with but not last night. I got the feeling last night that the fans wanted their pound of flesh and the Eagles seemed intent to deliver.

Went to the Komets practice yesterday with my son and had a good time. It was great that some of the players signed my sons Komet hockey cards for him. But I watched closely to the players as they were practicing. Good intensity and speed from everyone, even the older guys. From what I saw I think we will be fine this year. We may start slow which would be understandable but they will gel. However with that being said I must admit there was one player that looked to be over his head. And that is LeGault. Terrible at taking any shots(missed most by 10 feet). And not a very good skater. Now I realize he wasn't signed to be an offensive threat, only an enforcer. But with a roster of 19 can the Komets afford to keep someone who's only use is to throw his weight around. Maybe we can keep him hidden on IR until the Colorado games. Then he may be of some use. And MacMillan. Wow. Everone knew what he is all about. Its too bad he had to take his agression to such a bad extreme. I think he's done for the year.

Remember this is an exhibition game. Exhibition games are meant to "expose" weaknesses to make it possible to cut players without cutting the wrong person. If we blew out every team or won soundly how is it possible to cut the right person. The Komets lost an exhibition game last year, relax. We cant even say Dayton is much improved but do they have a quick team, yes, theyre crazy fast as usual. Fort Wayne will win alot of games dont worry.
