My confidence is low about this Komet team in years.I've said they needed more toughness & more scoring=while being ripped for it. TIME HAS COME!!!!!!

A few things that I have noticed this year:

Bertram - I can't remember the last time he threw a decent check or mixed it up or moved someone out from in front of our net. Is he badly hurt? At the beginning of last year he was a totally different player. He would look someone in the eye and he was always there to stand up for his team; just like someone 6-4 240lbs should! What has happened?????

P.C - He hit in the corners and skated a lot harder last year. Yes, he has a great shot on the power play but where is the PC from the last few years?

Guy - Great person but I have never seen him get beat like I have this year.

I feel sorry for Mac and Schrock....I mean to expect to have guys that are 5-10 have to fight guys that are 6-5, 6-6, is TOTALLY RIDICULOUS! Fort Wayne is a great place to play, so why are we the ONLY team in the league without AT LEAST 1 legitimate heavyweight???? I get so sick of us getting pushed around all the time this season. Not 1 guy over 5-10 that can drop em.....what a shame! Everybody plays a little bigger when someone like Legault or Henley is in the lineup! I am not advocating goonery but physical play and fighting are part of the game and are a great way to change the momentum!

Even though I don't live in the Fort any more, I am a big Komet fan and watch every game on B2. While I don't expect to win the Cup every year, I want a team that will not get pushed around.

Yet the defense for the most part has been the best in the league and I guess you throw Guy to the curb for his offense last night eh! I love the Komet fans, a negative bunch that doesn't deserve championship hockey.

Ok...let me toss a couple of questions out here.....
How much of this if any has to be put on the coach? Is it possible some of the what I have called "too comfortables" vets have stopped listening?

Al Sims is a great coach and a class act and nothing that happens this year will change that.
But is it possible that this collection of players aren't responding to him anymore?

G_Hockey,

I am not speaking about the Defensive stats of this team. And no, I am not throwing him under the bus for last night. If you have watched all season, you will see that this is the year that he has lost a step. That's all I was pointing out. It happens to everyone eventually.

Don't let us (komet fans) voicing our opinions worry you too much. We simply are passionate about our team!

I am too. Season ticket holder here. But Guy has not LOST a step. I know that for a fact. You need to learn something about hockey along with some others who come here to moan and gripe. The defense was playing offense last night and the so called offensive players did not cover well. Also Dayton is a very fast team. Guy also made at least 3 great stops that I saw last night. I know you are passionate but take a break from the negativity once and a while and enjoy the view. Even though the team played poorly last night they were not blown out. So please don't start counting the chickens. The reason I put you in your own little group is because I know there are Komet fans out there that actually know what they are talking about and are not negative and want to change the entire team every time they loose.

So the team is fine as-is, G_Hockey? Wow, I guess everyone on here, including the guy who runs the blog, Komets players, Komets coach, and Komets owners are all wrong since they have all been negative in your opinion. Like it or not, it's not just one loss. In fact, the losses are outnumbering the wins if you read Blake's article. Since Guy hasn't lost a step at all, what's his deal with all the holding penalties this year? Just doing those to spice up the game a bit? Don't feel bad whole_n_one, no one on here other than G_Hockey knows anything about hockey apparently. I can't wait for the New Years game in my season seat to watch Icy since I'm not smart enough to understand hockey or what I'm seeing on the ice.

G_Hockey,

Please don't start personally bashing anyone who has an opinion that is different than yours. Just because we don't agree doesn't mean that someone doesn't know anything about hockey. In my opinion, I am not 'counting the chickens'. It is almost the mid-way point of the season, and in my opinion the team is underachieving for the amount of talent that we have on the roster. It is also my opinion that we are lacking in the toughness department.

We are all entitled to our opinions, so please don't take it to a personal level by insulting others.

Here we go with the "I know more about hockey than you" gunshow.. I love this crap.

Focus people, we're all on the same team.. If you can't relax and get along I'm sending Sebring to dole out some bush league elbows at your place of work...

Meanwhile, Lawmaster is done for awhile. Karma catches up to everyone sooner or later. Thinking back to the goonery he unleashed on Shaf, its hard to feel sorry for him.

Actually, if I had to chose between changing the roster and changing players' attitudes, I'd chose the latter. Confidence and attitude are everything. Those are things that give you that extra step and drive you to give your all. Back in 2007-2008, I honestly felt that the team kept winning for no other reason than that they believed they could. If the guys are saying morale is a problem, that needs to change pronto.

Our veterans are all part time players with full time jobs. Who wants to play hard on the weekends and show up sore on Monday to sell insurance, signage or fight fires. Let the rookies with heart play.

Wendy's latest point is THE only answer. And Guy HAS lost a step. Everybody does as they age. There's no crime in saying that. He just has to play smarter because of it and he can definitely do that. Guy's whole career is based on making adjustments.

Wendy, I think we'd all like to keep the players we have because of everything they've done for us. The thing of it is though that we can't be the ones to change their attitudes. Coach Sims obviously can't change their attitudes either. If anyone knew how to do that, they wouldn't probably be here on the blog, they'd be touring the world at seminars making countless dollars teaching the world how to fix its problems with motivation issues. When it comes down to it, that is up to the players themselves to find ways to change their complacent attitudes and get motivated. The thing is, this team doesn't seem to want to do that, which I think concerns many in the stands, especially when it leads to what we are seeing on the ice. When it comes to that, unfortunate as it may be, changes may have to be made.

Whole n one...not sure what PC you watch...but in the entire time he has played here, i have seen him hit or check someone maybe a dozen times...not saying he isn't a good player, because he is and he can put the puck in the net...but hitting a checking are part of the game...just not PC Drouins...

Komets 91,

PC is a good player. All I was stating was that the past few years I thought that he went a lot harder into the corners and took the body a little more. Maybe Al has had him adjust his play a little. Not trying to be critcal but just seems to be playing a little different this year, as has most of the team. Could be a chemisty or attitude change as well.

In general, it just doesn't seem that this team sticks up for each other like teams of the past. Maybe I am not seeing what everyone else is but when teams are tight knit, they have that passion and it shows on the ice, even when they lose a game. Just looks to me like we are missing that. That being said, I am still confident that they will make the necessary moves and/or adjustments.

Chewy had to fight Parker after Parker boarded a K's D-man..Chewy went right after Parker which wasn't all that smart on Chewy's part, but at least he "stuck" up for a team mate...Of all the guys on the ice he was the only one to react....The hit by Parker was worthy of a 5 minute imo..

I find it hard to believe that a coach who has not had one mention of mistreatment of his players all the sudden has this come to light...right before the University is due to pay an $800,000 bonus if he was coaching on 12-31-09..It will be interesting to see what all comes out and if this is the only incident or is there others..But yes it is a little over the top if he was doing this in the way it is being reported, no need for that at all

Shane, does this game look as good as it sounds? Sounds like it's been up and down all night.

Wed, 12/30/2009 - 9:28pm

Yes, it has had a good flow to it..Nick has made some key saves..their 2 goals were a result on a 2 on 1's where he had no chance.

Komets win 3-2. I don't agree with Blake and Wendy regarding the confidence vs. roster thing. Everyone knows that having confidence helps no matter what you do but confidence comes from within. You can't manufacture it or make it appear because you want it to. It is a result of doing something. So to say that Wendy has THE only answer is to ask for more of the same. Lets get real here. The Komets need to make changes. If the changes they make result in success than confidence will grow. If they make changes and nothing positive happens than they are right where they are now. Nothing to lose and yet while typing this it may only take a player or two to change things. I have faith that Al Sims and David Franke will do the necessary things to change this from a negative to a positive. Waiting for an "attitude adjustment" is just plain worthless and pointless.
