Tailing the Komets

Komets lose 2-1 in overtime

Again, no offense, and 16 minors. It might be easier to list the guys who didn't get any penalties: Matt Ward, Tyler Fletcher, Derek Patrosso, Leo Thomas and P.C. Drouin. Arizona had 12 power plays.

Here's what Al Sims had to say:

``We took too many penalties against. It just took away from us having a chance on offense in the thrid period. We were pretty gassed because we had taken so many penalties.

``Reiter played really well. A really strong performance. They were 2-for-12 on the power plays, and they had two 5-on-3s.

``Everybody was working but they got a 4-on-3 in OT, and we just couldn't get one more save out of Rides. Guys worked hard. It was big to get a point considering how many penalties we took.''

They can't handle the speed in the CHL so they have to take penalties in order to slow the other team down. The komets are in trouble. Just wait and see. IMO.

Has Guy got a penalty in both games now? This is a new league, it's faster than the IHL. Some of the veterans need to get a reality check.

Folks, without more speed and offense we are in trouble. The Komets hopefully will do better against the other IHL teams but against the teams from the CHL with what they have it will be a struggle.

I agree with a strong showing from Reiter. However, having said, that he has one problem that Haun did in the beginning of the season as well. He needs to be duct taped to the goal. That last goal they scored was because Reiter was out of the crease. What is with GOALies who don't stay in the Goal? JMO. And, I agree with True, they look like they are getting outskated and take penalties for it, but on the other hand, the type and quantity of penalties in the CHL is ridiculous. Everyone hated a Franke-run league, but at least they got to play and it was more interesting for spectators.

I watched the game last night and the K's did keep up with the Sundogs. The penalties were ridiculous but not all deserved, IMHO, at least not compared to the no calls on Arizona. Even Arizona's broadcasters picked up on several of the no calls. Any time a team can take that many penalties and hold the other team to only one goal in regulation time says a lot for the team.

Penalties are a real problem for the Komets and it's something they are going to have to work on. The refs we've had so far a calling everything possible against the Komets, maybe as a "welcome to the league" effort (I really doubt that, just had to say it though) and the guys have to get use to the fact that that's the way it's going to be. Object to the ref and he'll though an unsportsmanlike on top of it just because you disagree with the call.

In the chat box during the game someone dubbed the CHL as the Church Hockey League, there obviously is some truth to that.

as to the CHL refs and "welcoming the Komets to the CHL" the ref in game one was on IHL ref from last year so that holds no water. also the Komets are being really dumb with the penalties almost all of them were well deserved and yes they missed some calls on AZ but also look at the stats it komets still had 7 pps and AZ had just about even number of penalty minutes as the Komets did

If the Komets cant afford the players we need under the salary cap, why dont they cut some of the dead weight that is gobbling up salary cap space, even if those players have played for the Ks in the past?

Look at the penalties, not just the total. 17 minutes were on one of their player for the same incident, 2 instigating, 5 fighting, 10 misconduct. The misconduct is automatic on an instigation penalty. I think it was OC who got 2 plus 2 because he disagreed with the ref. Some of the interference calls (on both sides) were because the player was checked just after or just before he got the puck or passed it. In other words they were very strict on timing, one of those things the Ks are going to have to get use to.

I'm basically saying the Komets absolutely have to get use to the way penalties are called in this league. As far as speed and skill, based on what I saw last night they are fine, they had no problems keeping up with AZ and on several occasions left them behind. But we shall see, won't we.

Someone earlier said that Reiter was out of net. Do you mean that he was behind the net, was he not in the blue paint? Was he just out of the crease. If you know anything about playing goal, which I don't, but I do know that the farther out of the goal, the bigger the goalie supposedly looks, and the less holes there are. I didn't watch the game, but I plan on watching tonight. Can't wait. GO K's

There are advantages and disadvantages to coming out of the net. Coming out works best on longer range shots, and sometimes you'll see a goalie come out to effectively challenge a shooter. They can also puck handle to some degree to help out their team (such as on a power play). I think that's what they are talking about with Reiter. A goalie that does that a lot and is good at it can be a great asset, but just wait until they fall down behind the net or fail to see an opposing skater who steals the puck for an easy tally. You just have to take the good with the bad, 'cause no style is infallible.

Wow, all of that after just 2 games, Schebig ate an entire pot of chicken n dumplings today.

Wow!!

Arizona isn't the Blackhawks. No playmakers stepping up. Two goals in the last three games (one preseason game included) doesn't show much. A couple days ago I printed that the K's need a successful weekend or they better start the engine to back up the truck and start dumping. So far a week of "hard practice" showed very little.

This morning Michael Franke stated that they will know more 8-10 games in. This team needs a blow out victory very, very soon.

Don't blame Reiter. He was the only consistent player. Blame the offense, the stupid penalties, and the fact that they are not getting the puck and the players to the net.

Sorry to all the "smarter" posters out there that don't see the weaknesses. I'm sure this post will get criticized but will be glad to take it all back with an outstanding offensive and penalty free game. We need both and I hope it is tonight. Otherwise it is time for decisions.

Why in the crap is Mr. Franke talking about Shafronov coming back longterm?

Is a 41 year old forward that was semi-slow in a slow league like the IHL last season the answer this team needs?

Gheesh.

And he just said that they are keeping tabs on Chaulk and he could possibly come back at some point...

Komets 1-0 so far....and the lines have been changed.

The starting line was Curdy, PC, and Schrock.

I have seen OC and Curdy together on the ice, and they are dynamite together.

Here are Hit Somebody's lines....one night after seeing Roger Waters Wall Live in Columbus OH last night (Amazing stuff):

Curdy, OC, Schrock
Ward, Patrosso, Naurato
Leo, PC, Fletcher

Cescon, Frankie
Phillips, Warner
Guyser, Danko

Rodger will crack the line-up very soon. He has to.

Not I who said re-tool Mr. Hammer. LOL

Mr. Franke was talking about Shaf coming back at some point this season. And he was talking about 2 players coming from Springfield, and 2 players coming off IR.....and 2 players will have to go, at least 2.

Al changed up the lines.

So go negative nellie yourself, Buddy!

K's up 2-1 after 2nd period. All the goals scored on the PP. Drouin has two assists.

They gave Guy the 2nd goal......I have looked at the replay 4 times, and it looks like Naurato redirected it in front of the net into the net.....

Big time players tonight:

OC, Schrock, Fletcher, Naurato, Curdy.....all look great.

Cescon looks like the big physical D-Man he is supposed to be.

Boucher looks on his game tonight, so far.

Naurato is a sniper folks,,,, he makes a living in front of the net and gets lots of good looks. He has had 3 or 4 shots that the Goalie has robbed him on.

We look 100x better tonight. I think they are showing good energy and controlling the puck in the zone so much better. The K's have controlled this game so far.

3rd period to come.

Oh, looks like 20 or so K's fans in Arizona tonight.....that is 1/4 of the crowd as it seems.

If I didn't know better, I'd guess they were in Dayton tonight with all the empty seats.

Speaking of Dayton....look-out.....they beat Dayton, Evansville won big over QC.....and Bloomington gets another W.

This is not going to be easy for the Komets this year.
