Tailing the Komets

Komets lose 4-2

Komets fell behind 3-1 late in the second period when Quad City scored a power-play goal with Guy Dupuis sitting out another hooking penalty. Komets cut it to 3-2 early in the third period, but were unable to take advantage of a 5:00 power play to tie the game.

Not exactly what I meant, but I could see how it could come off sounding that way. I'm too tired. Too much basketball tab stuff. I NEED A HOCKEY GAME! I think we all do.

I know, I was just giving you a hard time. Football playoffs, basketball starting up, Komets getting going, it never ends, does it? Is there wrestling coverage too?

Oh. These days, I had something else in mind when you mentioned Favre, and I was going to say, "No, no. Definitely not."

Not yet, but the PAL Super Bowl was Saturday. I think.

IMO, they still need a couple of centers who can set-up their linemates.

But maybe they are under-construction. Maybe Ward is that guy at some point.....not sure who the guy is that will get Curadeau the puck in the right spots, though?

Maybe they tinker the lines just right and it clicks. We'll see.

Of what we have right now.....these are my lines.

Leo, Curdy, OC
Patrosso, Naurato, PC
Ward, Schrock, Fletcher
Warner

Frankie, Cescon
Phillips, Rodger
Guy, Danko

I don't know.....it is worth a shot.

If Guy is our Favre, someone please go ahead and take his phone from him now before some pictures end up being sent to Cohny..

Are you saying that Cohn looks like a woman? :)

There's no way you can put Guy and Danko together. It doesn't work any more with the speed factor.

That means we might have to breakup Frankie and Brandon?

I think Frankie and Guy need to be paired for a while.
Let Danko play with Rodger/Warner.

I agree, so how do you cover 2 slow d-men?

If you pair them with an offensive d-man your playing Russian Roulette if the guy gets caught pinching in. A good portion of the time when Guy had success outside the PP was when he was pinching in. I dont think he can afford to be doing that this season with the speed and pace of the CHL game or he will lead the team in PIM's as I joked about this summer. Is he capable of changing his game towards more of a stay at home d-man?

It's starting to become more obvious as we talk about how to make up for the slowness of a couple of our players that those players are not the best ones to be occupying those spots on the team. We shouldn't have to talk about how to make up for certain players on the ice with others like it is some type of math problem where the correct answer is somehow magically breaking even. If the player is a negative, replace him with someone who isn't and make the team better, or at least competetive.

I guess we'll just have to see if being fan favorites is worth more than having the abilities on the ice. It proved to be over the summer. I just have a hard time believing that with all of their hockey experience and knowledge, the speed of this league caught the Frankes and Coach Sims by this much of a surprise going into it.

My Favre comparison was based on the fact that Guy still brings positives to the team....

He's still got a great shot from the blueline.
He's still a good leader and able to help the younger guys.
He's still valuable on the PP.

You come to expect a lot from the guy, and when he makes a mistake its magnified in a way it isnt with other players.

That being said, Sims has to weigh the negatives against the positives. And if the positives are enough, maybe shuffle the pairings to maximize Guy's positives and minimize his negatives (lack of speed.)

Thanks for the comment, Blake. While I agree with you that there is no way for me to be certain regarding a "true leader" coming forward, it certainly appears that way...and while on the subject of my post, there is nothing in it that I will look back on later and regret for posting.

I do feel that the K's need one or two more true centers. I do feel that the Columbus affiliation may be paralyzing the Franke's a little in making roster decisions. I understand that any player sent down in most cases will be better than what we have ( and probably cheaper on the salary cap too).

Yea, its been awhile since we've seen a game live. Still, others I've spoken to (and trust their opinions) have seen games on CHL-TV and are apprehensive about this team.

We're only four games in ( some teams have played as many as nine games). Still, it is what it is.

It isn't the end of the world. It also isn't what the Franke's thought would occur when they put the team together.

Except for Opening Night against Rapid City, the Komets have been in every game ( remember that Quad City scored their fourth goal into an empty net). The secret is as easy as "in" and "out".

Put the puck "in" the net and stay "out" of the penalty box.

I love your last sentence Alan, so true. We could try to get a chant started, "In and Out, In and Out" but it probably wouldn't catch on and someone would misunderstand and complain. Probably a BHHC (Blond Headed Hockey Chick).
