Komets place Blair Stayzer on waivers

The Komets have placed veteran forward/defenseman Blair Stayzer on waivers. If he is not claimed in 24 hours by another International Hockey League team, he'll be a free agent. Stayzer had one goal and 34 penalty minutes in 13 games this season. He's been on the 30-day injured reserve list since Dec. 4 with a concussion, but is now ready to play, Komets General Manager David Franke said.

``This is just because we needed to get down to 20 men on the roster,'' Franke said. ``He's healthy now and able to play. He got cleared by all the doctors, but we coudn't find a spot for him here either on defense or forward. We're going to let him go and see if he can hook on with somebody else in our league. We don't have any bad feelings about him or anything like that. It was just a numbers decision.''

Right now the K's roster consists of 11 forwards, 2 of which are unavailable at this time (Varone = injured, Syroczinski = AHL callup). This means we have to dress 8 D-men to help us get to the 19 max we can dress per game including goalies. Maybe the offensive output would increase if we dropped just one D-man and brought in one true forward (rookie, tweener, whatever...). I would rather see 10 forwards 7 d-men and 2 goalies...

Question Blake... Does Norfolk have an AA agreement with any team in the ECHL or CHL??? They seem to be pulling players from all over and signing them to PTO's when Tampa Bay calls up somebody... This would lead me to believe that Syroczinski may not be back anytime soon, if at all. I keep hoping that Tampa will trade one of thier stars for a bunch of prospects that can fill the roster in Norfolk because at this point I think the K's best option for the "sniper" they may be looking for is to get Syro back.

Blake, thanks for the update on Purinton..

Glad to see he's behind the bench. Hockey could use more guys like him teaching young guys.

I 've read every comment now and I have to tell you all something. It makes me proud as a Komet fan to see and read the "loyalty" from those on here that have expressed disappointment with Stayzer being waived. You all know from my previous posts ( clear back to the beginning of the season ) that I did not understand why the K's spent a "veteran" spot on him. However, I must admit that Stayzer did whatever was asked of him, never seemed to complain, and could play a regular shift when needed. I still believe the K's will be better off now and have given themselves some "wiggle" room to find another player to strenghten the team. I think this was the right move but I am impressed, and like I said before, proud as a Komet fan, that a player like Stayzer could have impressed Komet fans like he did. It speaks well of Komet fans in general. Good luck to Stayzer. "Once a Komet-always a Komet"

No obsession, but how do you keep him with Woods coming and possibly another vet forward? Someone has to go. And there aren't too many options of guys to let go, plus it would be hard to release any rookies due to Moolah.

its a shame to see Stayzer go....but is Mitch Woods really going to make a difference considering that he hasn't played in almost a year? I don't think Woods can get into shape in 2-3 weeks and play like he did in the past... just my opinion. Varone was good offensively and brought alot of energy last year, hopefully he brings that back after he is cleared from his injury. I liked OC, Varone and MAC last year.....now that was a line that produced! as for the empty vet spot I think they would be filling on defense since it has been lacking lately. I think that too much line changing is the problem and that is why no one has built any chemistry to make it stick out there.
GO KOMETS!!!!!
