Komets re-sign Pence, Legault

The Komets announced Monday that they have re-signed defenseman Jake Pence and forward Olivier Legault for 2008-09. The Komets also added rookie defenseman Vince Tarantino to the camp roster.

Pence, 24, skated all 76 games of the regular season last year with the Komets posting two goals and 11 points while accumulating 44 penalty minutes. Pence appeared in 12 playoff games registering two assists in the run for the Turner Cup championship. Pence completed four seasons at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell from 2003-2007 before skating his first pro season last year with the Komets. Pence was honored at the conclusion of last season with the Komets' Most Improved Player Award.

Legault (luh-GOE), 21, also appeared in his first pro season last year with the Komets scoring three goals, nine points and 178 penalty minutes in 55 games. Legault was a fourth round selection by Florida in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and was a co-winner with teammate Pence for the Komets' Community Service Award for 2007-08.

Tarantino, 26, finished four seasons with Potsdam (NCAA-SUNYAC) last year and registered nine assists and 10 points in 22 games during 2007-08.

The Komet's 2008-09 roster grows to 19 players including 10 forwards, eight defensemen and one goaltender. The signing of Pence and Legault gives the Komets 10 returnees from last season's championship squad. Training camp begins Monday, Oct. 6 at the Coliseum.

Great to have Pence and Legault back! I really liked the way Jake progressed throughout the year last year. This is a great day!
