Komets sign four

The Komets announced Tuesday that four players have been added to the 2008-09 roster. Inked to agreements for the upcoming season are the IHL's 2007-08 top defenseman Guy Dupuis and leading goaltender Nick Boucher. In addition, the Komets signed right winger Brad MacMillan and rookie defenseman Danko Mironovic.

Dupuis, 38, is returning for his 12th season with the Komets and 19th as a pro. He was Detroit's third choice, 47th overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft and began his career in 1990 with Adriondack in the AHL. The veteran defenseman first came to Fort Wayne in 1991 and appeared in eight straight seasons with the Komets before skating with Hershey and Chicago in the AHL during the 1999-00 season. Dupuis returned to Fort Wayne in 2005 and will be skating his fourth consecutive season with the Komets. Dupuis is a six-time recipient of the Komet's end-of-season Plus/Minus Award and six-time winner of the Komet's Defenseman of the Year Award. He represented the Komets on the 1998-99 IHL All Star Team and was a three-time UHL All Star. Last season Dupuis was named the IHL Defenseman of the Month for October, December and February and was honored as the IHL's Defenseman of the Year and Most Sportsmanlike Player of the Year. Dupuis topped IHL defenseman last season with 15 goals, 43 assists, 58 points and +41 in 69 games. In the playoffs he registered six assists and eight points in 13 games enroute to his second Fort Wayne IHL championship.

Boucher, 27, will be entering his sixth pro season and second with the Komets after posting a career high 24 wins last year. Boucher also led IHL goaltenders with a 2.32 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in 31 appearances. He appeared in seven Komet playoff games and posted a league-best 2.09 goals-against average and 5-2-1 record while backstopping the Komets to the Turner Cup championship. Boucher was honored as the IHL's Goaltender of the Month three times last season; November , December and February.

MacMillan, 25, will be skating his fifth season as a pro. He began his career with Fairbanks of the North American Hockey League in 2003-04 posting 23 goals and 39 points in 50 games while leading Fairbanks with 280 penalty minutes. The right winger skated with Missouri of the UHL during 2004-05 and 2005-06. MacMillan led the River Otters in 2005-06 with 230 penalty minutes while scoring seven goals and 12 points in 52 games. MacMillan played five games with Trois of the LNAH in his most recent action during 2006-07.

Mironovic (meer-AHN-oh-vick), 21, has recently completed three seasons of juniors in the OPJHL. Last season the rookie defenseman scored seven goals and 22 points while accumulating 80 penalty minutes in 42 games with the Vaughan Vipers.

The Komet's 2008-09 roster consists of eight players including four forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender with 12 weeks remaining before training camp. Camp begins Monday, Oct. 6 at the Coliseum.

It is good to see the Komets were able to retain at least one of their dynamic netminders from last season. It would be great if they can come to terms with Reiter as well. I am sure he will be scowering the CHL/SCHL/IHL looking for a starting gig. As much as I want to wish him luck, I hope he still ends up back with the Komets.
