Komets sign two

The Komets announced Wednesday that former Port Huron Icehawk forwards Derek Patrosso and Brandon Naurato have agreed to terms and will be in a Fort Wayne uniform when the puck drops on 2010-11.

Patrosso, 25, will be entering his third pro year after skating the last two campaigns with the Icehawks in Port Huron.  Last year the right winger ranked second in Port Huron scoring with a career high 70 points in 71 games netting 30 goals and passing 40 assists while earning 94 penalty minutes.  Patrosso was one of the leaders of the Icehawk's special teams posting 20 power play points (8g, 12a) and two short-handed goals while completing the season with a plus-16.

Naurato, 25, made his pro debut last season appearing in five ECHL games with Toledo before joining Port Huron.  The skater scored 25 goals, 46 points and 38 penalty minutes and topped the Icehawks with 11 power play goals.  Before turning pro, the Livonia, Michigan native was a member of the University of Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA for four years from 2005-2009.

Patrosso and Naurato skated all seven Port Huron playoff games against the Komets in the first round last year.  Naurato scored two goals and six points in his pro playoff debut while Patrosso registered two goals and three points in post-season play.

Just announced on the news that the K's will play a 66 game schedule with 1/3 of it against CHL teams. Also, the K's will take a one week long trip to Texas. 44 game schedule against IHL foes and 22 games against CHL. Little unbalanced with 11 game series against IHL foes if my math is correct.

I would not believe the INC stories. Frankie says they don't know. I do know that the Ks would be taking 3 long road trips. That's all I will say.

What is going on in Dayton....anyone have a source or any info to share.

They had a huge press conference scheduled today to announce the new coach and front office staff at Hara today at 1:30.....it got cancelled.

Let me paste the link here.....sounds bad to me.

http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=4039068

On the gems website, the new front office staff are pictured and write-ups attached....

Either the coach backed out, or there is a big problem?

Anyone know?

Regarding Dayton, I don't know what's odder -- the wording "unforseen circumstances" or the fact that they didn't announce a rescheduled date. Logically, I would assume that it has to do with the new coach because anything else they could have given a more specific statement about.

You know, assuming the franchise itself isn't in some sort of trouble. But I'm doubting that at this point.

Isn't it about time for a Positive Patty to come on and tell us all is well in Dayton?

Yes RK......I think they will....LOL

I am sure there is alot of back room scrambling going on.

The other thing I find puzzling is the wording in todays press release from the Komets.....it goes against everything Quad City Ownership has said publicly, and also goes against some things I have read out of Bloomington and even the CHL on Evansville.

"The Komets will continue to be a member of the International Hockey League and participate in the Central Hockey League under the CHL moniker. As announced by the IHL and CHL June 1, both leagues have joined forces for the upcoming campaign. The circuit will consist of 13 CHL teams and five IHL teams for an 18-team coalition."

The others have gone as far as saying that Quad City is a new CHL team, words quoted straight from Lachenski, and CHL press release said Evansville is welcomed into the CHL for next season.

I know it is all in the wording, but isn't it funny how Quad City has been particular in saying they are going to the CHL and not the "IHL going under the CHL Moniker."

Makes me scratch my head.

What's wrong in Dayton?

The two signings look good and hopefully will add some needed punch to the power play.

Hopefully things in Dayton turn out alright. I could be wrong, but maybe there are some things out there that doping up on pills, drinking weak concoctions, and smearing suntan oil all over each other just can't fix...

If both end up here.

Patrosso has previously signed to play in Scotland for Bruce Richardson's team, he signed about 2 weeks ago to play there. There might be some contract issues in trying to break his contract there to play here.

Can things be anymore messed up than they all ready are?

Holy cow.

These is like a really bad dream that keeps getting more and more mis-handled. The lack of info, the half info, the double talk, the spin, and the appearance of Fort Wayne to the rest of the hockey world keeps taking hit after hit.

Crazy.

So the Komets make a couple of quality signings and most of the talk continues to revolve around doom and gloom... interesting.

Great signings by the K's..... I like the fact that the first 3 signings are young good players... Both Patrosso and Naurato can put the puck in the net and Naurato and Phillips both fit into the 'developmental' player category for the CHL...

Good start so far, IMO...

Hopefully the Dayton thing straightens itself out...

No, Snuff, it is funny how these yahoos can't do anything positive without having 3-5 other moronic things occur to over-shadow the positives.

I didn't make anything up, not doom and gloom at all.

Dayton cancelled their coach presser, odd?

And Patrosso has signed to play in 2 places, the first signing was in Scotland, and there is a mess attached to it.

Tell me how anyone is dooming and glooming it....seriously?

Go read Justin Cohn's article about it.

He couldn't even get Patrosso to go on record that he will play here, and He couldn't get Franke to return a call.

Odd, doom, gloom.....?

Call it what you want.

One step forward 3 steps back, always with this circus.

Can it ever just be well executed and smooth?

It continues to be a PR nightmare and a mess.

Where is the positive news on this IHL under the CHL Moniker?

Mr. Snuffupostivuss.

I don't mean to be snappy.

You would think just once, one time they could have postive legitimate news with 2 player signings.....

But NO.

It has to include more drama and more screw-ups.

It is tiring.

MR SNUFFLUPUGUS
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 10:53pm

So now it is the Komets fault that Dayton cancelled a press conference....interesting.

MR SNUFFLUPUGUS
Wed, 06/30/2010 - 10:54pm

And the cancellation of said press conference means that the sky is falling and Satan (not the hockey player) has taken over the the roll of Captain Komet and replaced Icy as team mascot?

I know we don't have any deals with the Europeans, but I still don't feel like the Patrosso signing is entirely kosher. I just feel like if someone signs on to play for a team, they shouldn't be signing somewhere else just a couple of weeks later. Just my opinion, though.

For the sake of argument, let's say all of this news happened at the NHL level. What do you think people would make of it? Picture this, "The NHL is failing, merging, although they are calling it a coalition, with another league. The Phoenix Cyotes are holding a press conference today to announce their new coach, wait, no they're not. ?? Alex Ovechkin signed with the Capitals, AND the Ak Bars Kuzan of the KHL. People are not returning phone calls." What does that look like? To paint that picture with the happy-go-lucky brush just ain't gonna happen kid. The press would have an absolute field day with that, especially sports talk radio hosts. And they wouldn't be talking about how bright things are. That's just the reality of it.

So, players breaking contracts from North America to go play in Europe is ok.....isn't this the same thing just vice versa....just asking? Especially in the middle of the season, like 2 players did from Flint just last season. It doesn't hurt as much in June than it does in November or even January....I think because its the Komets and Frankes people are making a bigger deal out of it...

Wendy
Thu, 07/01/2010 - 1:25pm

It's bad form, IMO, no matter how it happens. But at least mid-season, they played a few games for the team they signed with first. This is more like agreeing to go to the prom with the AV geek, then dumping him a couple of days later when the quarterback of the football team decides to ask.
