Always thought Warren Rychel would have been an excellent Komet even though he was an Ice-man.

No negativity towards any one! I just listed them as they were on the roster, by the numbers on their backs! The two left to chose from didn't have numbers!

I totally agree with Snuff and Blake on this one. Seinfeld once said in an episode that you really only cheer for the laundry. That is, usually you cheer for the jersey.

There are plenty of ex-Komets who, if they had spent their career playing for another franchise, would have been hated here. Most of the time these players are those who try to "get under the skin" of their opponents or just had the knack of being very successful against the Komets. Gruhl was a very good example of a player who could do both.

Changing the subject for a moment, someone remarked above about the number of "developmental" players we need to dress. I'm not sure of the number ( four or five ) but Ponshendyalov will be one and I think most of the others will come from the defense. That could change if the Franke's stick to their guns and run an open camp where they keep the best regardless of the past. There are so many forwards on this roster. I think Chris Auger will make the team. I think Brett Smith will make the team.

I am wondering about Bobby Chaumont. No one on this blog seems to talk much about him. I am wondering why? Does he have some reputation that I am not aware of? He is a scorer and am looking forward to watching him play. My optimism about him is tempered a little by the lack of excitement demonstrated on this blog by his signing. What do you all know about him that I apparently am ignorant about?

If the theory that only the best players will make this club, and with the talent brought in, I would be a little concerned if I were Lapointe, Drouin, Thomas, and Warner. I think Smith, Auger, Milam, Chaumont, and Bennefield are in and deserve the chance. They are CHL and/or ECHL experienced and I'm not sure why the K's would sign them if not serious about keeping them.

Oh well, we'll see. If I am close to being correct on my statement above on players in and out, a couple more veteran spots will open.

I guess the first thing we need to do is to see if anyone sticks in an AHL camp, retires, or decides not to report.

I have agood feeling about this year as I look over the camp roster now. I am convinced we will be cutting some very good players and may regret a decision or two as the year progresses.

First, one of the dirtiest players I ever saw play in the Coliseum and for the Komets was Andy Bezeau... Komets fans LOVED him.... He was a dirty, cheap little player; but he was a Komet, so he got a pass...

And as Snuff pointed out, Scott Gruhl was like a surgeon with his stick and broke a few jaws in his time; but he came over, scored alot of goals, took his nastiness out on the other team and was loved for it...

What JM is pointing out is that just because guys who were once public enemy #1 in Ft Wayne become Komets that every Komet fan has to like the player. And thats where some of the 'arguements' take place because there are some Komets fans that no matter who the player is they have to be cheered no matter what because they are now Komets and brand people who do not like that player as 'negative' or not 'true' Komets fans which is just ridiculous... My dad NEVER clapped once for anything Gruhl did in a Komets uniform and yelled at him more than once for his cheap play as a Komet...

Alan, What I heard about Chaumont is that he's a terror when motivated.... He tends (or has in the past) to disappear for games. AND, the biggest thing that has me reserved about his signing is that he has left a team in the past during the season for Europe.... Thats what I've heard...

No doubt from that standpoint I agree with JM.

I had no use for Mirasty. I cringed anytime he came onto the ice. For the most part I'll cheer for the team and whomever happens to be wearing the jersey but there are some guys I'd rather not see here.

Then we agree. Thanks for playing ref, JR..

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I happen to share Snuffs view of Mirasty.

post 100....

Not bad kids, for a bunch of negative nelsons.

Patrick.....I am confused....Bobby Chaumont is going to be like Rick Varone and Frankie D? Is that kinda like Cookie Monster is going to be like Big Bird and Ernie?

I don't see the connection.

And only 20 of them were yours. Thanks for showing restraint.

Scott Gruhl is a classic example, and when he returned to the Coliseum as a Kwing after his stint here he was booed again.

Funny you should mention Warren Rychel Blake, a friend and I were discussing him yesterday. His name came up while we were talking about the passing of "goons" or "enforcer only" players in hockey. I think he bridged that gap, was tough but not just a fighter, and his primary roll with LA was to protect the Great One. To do that he had to be able to skate...and I've read he was one of Wayne's favorites for that roll. Komet fans booed him like crazy, me among them at times, but it would have been interesting to see him here.

These days Warren helped turn the Windsor Spitfires from a yearly "also-ran" to one of the best organizations in all of the CHL.

Hit SomeBody!!! The connection is
The fact that they were players that
Were doubtful to make the Komets
Team and turned out to be some.
Of our best players and help us win
2nd consecutive Turner Cup Championship.

Patrick, are you posting comments via telegraph? lol

Komets camp is close-stop-
I think some players will surprise us-stop-
The sun is shining today-stop-

Lol, just playing around with ya...

I see what you are saying about Chaumont; but he is a more proven player with an AA hockey and european hockey history. More to pull from than a rookie coming in playing for the first time at the pro level...

JR1, thanks for answering my question regarding Bobby Chaumont. One of the biggest gambles a CHL team takes is signing a player with ability who may use the beginning of a season as an "audition" to lure an offer from Europe.

It happens more frequently than we like, and an example of it would be Mark Smith from a few years back. He was signed under Puhalski's regime and scored 17 goals in the first 25 games. The Komets needed all the scorers they could muster and he was a fast, smooth, skillful sniper. As I recall he left around Christmastime for Europe. It's hard to replace a player like that.

Sometimes players come back from Europe, too. Drouin did a few years ago and now Bennefield. I guess it works both ways.

Patrick, I want to thank you also. Varone and DeAngelis were young kids and didn't have the "AA" experience that Chaumont does. Comparing the situation may be a little tougher because of the prior experience factor. Still, thanks for helping out.
