Tailing the Komets

Komets trade Llewellyn for goaltender

The Komets announced Tuesday that they have traded defenseman Trisitin Llewellyn to the Missouri Mavericks for goaltender Gerry Festa.

Festa, 27, began his pro career with Missouri 2009-10.  2011-12 was his third consecutive season with the Mavericks.  The netminder opened this season with two wins before completing his abbreviated 2011-12 stint with Missouri posting a 2-4-2 record, 3.00 goals-against average and .904 save percentage in eight appearances.

Festa made his debut against the Komets last week on Thursday, Dec. 29 suffering a 4-2 loss in Fort Wayne making 37 saves on 40 shots.  It was his most recent appearance before today's trade with the Komets.

Festa is expected to arrive in Fort Wayne in time for Friday morning's Komet practice at the Coliseum.  The Calgary, Alberta native is expected to be in the lineup Friday night when the Komets host Dayton at 8pm.

Llewellyn started the season with the Komets appearing in 11 games scoring one assist.

What does this mean for Alex Kangas?

Hrrm. Sorry, should have read from the bottom up. Still find it interesting.

First let me say I hope Alex Kangas is not injured too badly and can come back and play again. However, the fact the Komets made this trade sounds like they expect Alex to be out of action for quite a while.

That said, I like this trade. The Komets get a healthy back-up goaltender without giving away the farm. I was not impressed with Llewellyn in the games he played. Positionally he was a decent defenseman but it seemed like he didn't have any zip on his passes and as a result would turn the puck over in bad spots. He had a decent shot when he connected with the puck but he seemed to fan on a lot of attempts. I suppose it could be chalked up to rookie mistakes but he just seemed like the last man on the depth chart to me.

At any rate I hope Trisitin does well in MO, Alex gets healed up soon, and Gerry can give Bouch a rest this weekend.
