But he will be because they only brought 8 D-men to camp this year, and one of them is not a AA player.

I hope they have their sights on another D-man out of an AHL or ECHL or even another CHL camp.

If I were so called "trashing" Colin Chaulk it would be ok Snuff?

I don't understand why you protect BWs, a 7th D-man on a preaseason roster, but you are vocal about not wanting Chaulk on your team who is a #1 center and probably a top 4 or 5 center in all of AA hockey.

That amazes me.

Hit what makes you so sure they won't keep a "project" as a 7th D-man? I hope they do. As I posted elsewhere I want to see the Komets get more into the player development business. They did it with Kiyaga a few years ago. I know all of the jokes and rap against him but the fact was they won games while spotting him in situations where he could learn without hurting the team. By the end of the year he still wasn't "good" but you could certainly see the growth in his game. I'd like to see them do something like that again because there is always the opportunity that player could develop above and beyond their expectations. When you have a strong 18 you can afford to carry a project or two.

Hit I don't want to see any AA player "trashed" they are AA players for a reason. They are going to make mistakes and lots of them. That goes for a "a top 4 or 5 center in all of AA hockey" right down to the bottom 4-5. Difference is when the top guy makes one, it is often in a key situation because that is when your top guys are on the ice.
I am not protecting anyone. I am simply calling it as I see it and in my opinion Warner has taken more than his fair share of crap on these and other forums and sometimes it has gotten downright nasty personal. Every mistake he makes turns into a reason to bash. Again...if everyone else on this team was held to that level of scrutiny this would be a very very unpleasant fan base.

We have 7 Dmen left. Who is your 7th Dman that is the project? Warner?

I think they will sign another player that has been released from an AHL team. If not by week one then by the end of the month.

That's not mightbite. Snuff completes his sentences and doesn't use emoticons

I think a big problem is the fact that Warner got the local boy long leash and has made mistake after mistake after mistake for years now and somehow kept his spot in the lineup...

The local boy leash has gotten very short to where even those who have defended him can no longer realistically do so when half the Coliseum is booing him for every mistake...

The one good aspect of no longer having season tickets is that you can move around to different areas of the Coliseum and listen to the opinions of many fans who dont post on blogs like Blake's... Lets just say that the opinions of who we are speaking of got worse and worse as last seaason went along...

JR, were you telling all those people that he stinks?

Next thing you know, Snuff will cancel his sponsorship, turn his season tickets back in, and start sitting all around the arena telling everyone that will listen how bad Chaulk is. He will probably do it in 3 or 4 years from now when they are raising Chaulk's #91 to the rafters.

Will you be doing the same JR when the #9 goes up with it?

LOL

JR hit it right on the nose. Everyone makes mistakes. But the difference between Warner and Chaulk is the good things they bring to the team between mistakes. We all know what we get from Chaulk, but what do we get from Warner? Nothing. There have been other guys the last few years that have been as unproductive as Warner. But those are sent packing long before they take the amount of heat Warner has. It seems that the local boy tag has afforded him a free pass that others don't get. And I feel that is why Warner takes such a beating from fans.

Brandon does need to go but may stick around until we receive a player released from AHL or ECHL camps. Warner is still here because Mangos retired. Just circumstance but the Franke's see Warner as more benefit than cost. He shouldnt cost much against the cap for aslong as he lasts here plus doesnt need room and board. Business.

And, if warner is our only problem, this will be a great season.

"And, if warner is our only problem, this will be a great season. "

Exactly!

Hit, I enjoy debating with you but please do not make statements about me that are not based on any fact.

When have I ever said the captain was "bad"?

I get my position on the captain is not popular. But please stick to the facts of what I have said. I am not going to rehash my position which both positive and negative towards the player has been stated here many times.

Mr Snufflupugus
Sun, 10/16/2011 - 10:59pm

I do believe being a local kid has hurt Warner more than it has helped him.
It has brought out the worst in some bloggers and posters who have made it almost personal in their attacks of not only the player but anyone who says something that is mildly not negative about the player. The opposite of how the captain is treated. Say anything that isn't adoring and you get accused of calling the player bad and ridiculed for having the nerve to question any aspect of his game.
Rather hypocritical IMO. But what do I know? Oh wait I am an expert ;)
Goodnight all. Looking forward to Saturday night.

No offense. But there are alot of people that think you have some kind of personal beef with Chaulk. Everytime Warner being on this team comes into question, Chaulk comes into this discussion.

Why is that Snuff? Just curious, and I am sure lots of others wonder why this is?

Just a fan

It's funny how Boucher is so liked. He kind of has a big Ego too! The guy is a career "AA" goaltender at best making $800/week. Why don't they bring in some new talent that is actually going to progress to the next level. I'm kind of sick of watching guys that aren't going anywhere in hockey or haven't been anywhere.

Mr Snufflupugus
Sun, 10/16/2011 - 11:55pm

The fact is I don't care what others in the bloggosphere think or assume. By your logic I can "think" you and others have a personal beef with Warner. But I don't play the game of assuming facts not in evidence or twisting things to meet my needs.

My opinions are what they are and are out there for people to read or ignore. Why everyone always wants to know "why" when it comes to everything I write amuses me. Why people feel the need to attempt to prove me wrong is also amusing.

But it's all good. I have challenged people who seem to think my opinions are off base to simply ignore it but judging by the number of and the type of responses I get when I post there must be something to it. People spend alot of time responding and that's great but whether I get a response or not I'll continue to do what you are supposed to do on this blog, have an opinion.

I posted this before and I'll post it again.

"The popularity of an opinion is not measured by how many agree with it but rather by how many validate it with a response"

By now you know how I feel on most things. I don't engage in hero worship and I don't engage in personal attacks towards other bloggers. And most important I don't care if my opinions are the most ridiculed and least popular on the blog.

This will be the last time I address this. This blog is supposed to be about the Komets, not about Snuff and what Snuff writes.

Drop the puck already.

So basically you are your biggest fan? LOL

We want to know "why" because you are so interesting.

Warner probably made the team Friday night when he was the only defenseman who was even in a 6-1 loss. He must have played pretty well that night because that's a pretty strong statistic.

Jeremy Enright
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 12:07pm

Blake, after everything said during the offseason I find it puzzling that so many familiar faces were brought back to compete for a job. Especially Warner, because he was left off a playoff roster of an average/below average team. I hope it works out with Leo and PC because we would def benefit from getting the best of their tremendous upsides. But, in 3+ years, I have seen nothing from Warner to make me believe he can be a significant contributor. Phillips was our most underrated defenseman last year, although his +/- was terrible. Everybody knows that +/- isn't a solid way to judge a hockey player. You've said so yourself, Blake.

Blake Sebring
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 12:23pm

Nice try, but I have never said that myself. I am a big believer in plus-minus because I think you absolutely MUST play both ends of the ice. It's also one of the few ways to judge defensemen.

JungleMonkey
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 12:46pm

If +/- is a clear indicator of talent, Ol' Bobby Phillips just fell off the face of the earth from 09-10 to 10-11... +20 to -16. Guess he forgot how to play hockey.

Or could it be the outside factors of who you are on the ice with, the ability of your teammates to score, and quality of goaltending that contribute to an individuals +/-?

Blake Sebring
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 12:58pm

I think a lot of you are making assumptions about decisions which have not been made yet.

Burgee60
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 1:31pm

There are certain players at the wrong end of +- and they really deserve to be, you can see it on the ice, I like that stat

Jeremy Enright
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 2:10pm

Check your stats again. B Molle "played pretty well" too. Warner was not "the only defenseman with an even +/-." You've been high on Mele. He was -2. Krug was the only one with a positive +/-. By your standard, that means he played amazing, right? So why'd he get cut?

Blake Sebring
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 2:22pm

Probably to give you guys something else to gripe about. LOL.

Never said it was the only standard, Jeremy, just an important one. Not even the most important one, either.

Krug did nothing noticeable in the scrimmages. He was too small and didn't skate well enough, especially as a FORWARD.

Jeremy Enright
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 2:31pm

LOL oh we can always find something to gripe about! On a side note, what do you think the chances are that Hodgy gets cut from the AHL and returns to the city in which his child resides?

Scooter
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 2:33pm

Jeremy I believe Hodgy went over seas to play this year
