Tailing the Komets

Komets win 5-1 at Dayton

After losing at first-place Muskegon on Friday night, the Fort Wayne Komets bounced back with five-straight goals to win 5-1 at Dayton on Saturday night. Matt Syroczynski scored twice, Guy Dupuis, Sean O'Connor and Brandon Warner once to provide the offense as goaltender Nick Boucher made 27 saves.

The win gives the Komets 87 points on the season but they were unable to gain ground on Muskegon which won 3-1 at home against Quad City. The Lumberjacks have nine games remaining and lead the Komets by eight points. Fort Wayne has 11 games remaining, including today's 4 p.m. faceoff with Flint which was idle Saturday night.

Muskegon's magic number for clinching first place is 14 points. If the Lumberjacks go 5-4 over their final nine games, the Komets would have to earn 19 of a possible 22 points over their last 11 games to win first place because the Lumberjacks won the tiebreakers.

If the teams end up in a tie, the IHL tiebreakers are overall wins, the second is head-to-head wins and the third is fewest head-to-head regulation losses. The fourth is most goals, the fifth is head-to-head fewest goals against and the sixth is to flip a coin.

The schedule breaks the Komets' way with seven of the 11 remaining games at Memorial Coliseum, while Muskegon plays seven of its last nine games on the road.

Any explanation on why there is no B2? I have the season pass, and this is the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened. Not to mention when they play at Musky and Dayton it is nearly unwatchable. Musky's camera is outside the arena I think on top of the roof looking thru a small hole in the rafters. Dayton's camera, well, it looks worse than the first B&W tv I had when I was a kid.....

LOL

Alan, I replied to Dschebig in the other thread to ask if he had a take on the Miami complaint about the ice. I'm with you. Michigan was flying and moved the puck really well so the ice didn't seem to bother them. Unless Miami was holding back to save it for tonight, Michigan looks like the better team based on how both looked Saturday night. Regarding the ticket prices - I think you have to blame the NCAA. I think they set the ticket prices. The Fort is not going to pay major metro prices and I guess NCAA hasn't heard about any economic problems. I think they are lucky to get as many to purchase tickets as they did especially when you can stay home and watch it on ESPNU. That said, I had a great time at both games Saturday and I am really looking forward to tonight's game to send the winner to the Frozen Four. Only complaint was no scoreboard replays! Come on!!!! Time to leave now.

No reason why Hit. They gave me the standard excuse issue within the arena. Typical B2

They got at least a point out of the game. The K's have now lost 3 straight to Flint...Outside of Dayton, the rest of this league is playing some good hockey

The Generals seem to know where our blind spot is--can anyone figure it out with this team?????

The K's came from behind to tie Flint. Then Flint managed to get two points. If Gore hadn't invented the shoot out both teams would have walked away with one point. :-)

Congrats to Miami with 3-2 double OT victory at the Coliseum over Michigan. Great game and great atmosphere. I think Miami was on cruise control much of Saturday since Alabama Huntsville was not in their league because Miami looked like a much different team tonight. I hope Miami liked the ice better tonight. Michigan outshot Miami and was snakebit in the first OT and Miami grabbed the win early in OT 2. We had a great time. I wish more could have attended.

I was able to determine that it was Olnyk. There was a news article on Flint's homepage about his signing. But that was way back on March 18. He's already played in 2 away games for them. And it's not like he's a newcomer to the league in general. I just couldn't believe that they actually wrote "New Player" where a name should be. When he scored and later had a roughing call, they listed him as "N. Player". That's just beyond comical. But this is Flint we're talking about. He probably doesn't even have a name on his sweater yet.

The NCAA games were great. Thank goodness I don't have to listen to the Michigan fight song again! As a Ball State grad, I was thrilled that Miami won.

As far as ticket prices go, I spent $47 on my tickets. Saturday's ticket was $23.50 and so was Sunday's. When averaged out, it was $15.67 per game. When looking at it like that, and with the great hockey that was played, it was well worth it. (I did purchase the tickets when they were half off).

I heard that attendance in the regional for the NCAA game was up 8% from last year. There is no doubt in my mind that they will bring it back. Definitely not next year since the locations have been selected, but I'm sure it will come back.

Now, hopefully the Komets will be the team we know that they can be and play like it. It's time to dig deep. Have a great Monday everyone. See you Thursday, and Go Komets!

This is a little late, Mr Snufflupugus. I just took the time to watch the youtube you posted of Coach Jim Playfair. How in the world did someone who acts like that get the name "playfair"? Life sure is funny sometimes.

Alan--I just saw your post. sorry! The ice was bad Friday & Saturday. Maybe soft or very green. Which makes it slow. Miami was c/p about. It was very green because they took it up to take off all the Komets logos and adds. I didn't hear to many C/P's Sunday. Sunday was just one outstanding game played by both teams. All four teams had fantastic goaltending. Michigan could have won except for the goaltenders best friend (US Steel).

They now have to change the ice back. Which will probably mean bad ice on Thursday.

We're playing Dayton Thursday, a cold building will make them feel more at home.

Then that's even funnier, Mark21. Now not only were they calling someone they should have already known "New Player", they were doing it in full view of the name "Olnyk" on the back of his sweater! Reminds me of all those "dumbest city in America" taunts from Savage.
