Did everyone see that Martinson is putting the band back together in Chicago for the ECHL Express?

He signed Chaz Johnson.

I want to go see the Express when they play at K-Zoo this year. Ought to be some wild games between those 2 teams. They play each other 15 times this season.

Regarding player exemptions; Heard on local radio last week when Chaulk & Boucher were on that Hodgeman is back in town (think he's married to a local girl) and he's waiting on an offer from over seas but has no contract with marlies. He would fall under the exemption rule since he was under AHL contract with Toronto last year. I think he could be the "sniper" we are looking for if we could afford him. I would like to see his stats after a full year here. Just a thought.

1st post, enjoy listening to all your post whether I agree, disagree or what not. Continued posting...

I think he would have to be on a 2way contract with an AHL team currently for the season for this to work....But I dont think hodgman is a Veteran anyway...is he? I doubt without looking he has played over 300 pro regular season games....

But I find this news to be interesting to say the least....The Frankes love bringing back previous Komets....And the last comment on player signings about if one thing happens then we will do thi next snd so on.....well, COULD THIS BE THE THING THEY ARE BANKING ON?

I'd take Hodgy on our topline with APOD and Chaulk....Hodgy is a front of the net sniper who scores Huge goals...

I smell a deal here.

Very VERY pleased with these signings. I am sure some will cry that these aren't the "big names" that everybody knows.
This is a step towards the youth movement that I have been hoping for. These are guys that will come to training camp to fight for a job and hopefully continue fighting for it if they make the team. I am glad to see this camp won't be filled with guys who think they are entitled to a roster spot because of past exploits.

I like the addition of some beef to the blueline, youth and attitude...

Shaping up to be an interesting and probably lively camp and preseason...

Hodgy. Yay! A guy who thinks he's too big for AA... Nothing like a repeat of Curdy last year.

Hodgy always said he would play in Fort Wayne again.

I am with JM on this. I don't want any more of these guys back who can look to their past newspaper clippings as reasons they are entitled to be here. Team has enough of them now.

Starenky, 25, made his pro debut in the CHL in 2006-07 registering 57 penalty minutes in 16 games. Last year the Calgary, Alberta

I will take him.

If he is a bust like Curdy was....I will gladly admit that I am wrong.

But I bet he comes in and plays his butt off.

Another note on Hodgeman, when they were on the radio Boucher said him and Chaulk had dinner with him a couple weeks ago. I guess that could just be dinner with old friends but maybe they were giving him a sales pitch. I guess time will tell...

88 or bust.....Hodgy is an all star at the Double A level

Mr Snufflupugus
Wed, 08/10/2011 - 5:36pm

Ok....forgive me here because I know Hodgman is like Chaulk untouchable in this town....

An all star? based on what?? Yes, he has scored a couple of clutch playoff goals including one of the greatest in minor league hockey history. Yes he has been a solid playoff performer.

But he has not proven he can play a full season at the professional level or that he can score over a long period of time in the regular season.

If his head is right then bring him in as a 2nd or third line forward. Otherwise....thanks for the memories and move on.

Wow, Mr S....what is your deal? This kid has everything you say you want in a hockey player! He has speed, skill, and he is young! If you have ever heard anything about him, or met him, you would know he is not arrogant, does not think he is all that or too big to play here at all. He likes Fort Wayne, and loved his time with the Komets! Where are you getting this huge chip on your shoulder against him and everyone else who has ever played here? Why do you say he has not proven he can play a full season at the professional level? He did last year, minus the short time he was injured. Which happens to players at the NHL level too, if I am not mistaken.

Snuff, Guy is retired but I have never seen you write about him the same way you do about Colin. I will let everyone else discuss the contributions each player made or will make to the Komets and the community. However you seem to have a real problem with Chaulker. I quite frankly don't understand how an individual could do more at this level. Obviously Colin wasn't untouchable in Fort Wayne or they would have never let him go to Italy ....twice.
Best leader in the CHL though. Go figure.
I kind of sit up here and wonder what would have happened if he went to Flint or Port Huron, came back to bite your ass and no three championships. I think you would have been happier.

JungleMonkey
Wed, 08/10/2011 - 7:48pm

Chaulk has earned all of the respect and admiration that he gets, no doubt about it.

Mr Snufflupugus
Wed, 08/10/2011 - 8:01pm

Wow...
Ok...
BLB I have no chip.
One mostly full season does not PROVE to me he can play a full season. Unless I am wrong he has never scored 20 goals in a regular season as a pro. So have not done anything to PROVE to me that he can be a big time scoring threat over a full season.

I also said I would be happy to have him back as a second or third line forward. I don't want an under 20 goal scorer on my first line. That being said I would love him to break out and score 40 this year. You are right, he is young and maybe has the right kind of chip on his shoulder to prove to the AHL that he deserves another look. If he comes in with that attitude he COULD be one of the better players in the CHL

Mike....I wanted Guy to retire 2 years before he did. Again. No chip/problem with Colin. Just opinions. I am thankful both as a fan and a sponsor that he been a part of so much success for this franchise. That doesn't mean I want him back here year after year after year.

zanderson84
Wed, 08/10/2011 - 8:11pm

Snuff....because he averaged more than a point a game in his career with the Komets? In 54 games with the Komets, 25 goals, 33 assists. And those points weren't against crappy 10 win Flint teams. They were in the playoffs against good competition.

Mr Snufflupugus
Wed, 08/10/2011 - 8:22pm

We'll see... if they resign him. He certainly made his mark in this town based on his playoff performance. I acknowledged that.

I am not going to apologize for not engaging in hero worship due to past championships. That goes for Hodgman and everyone else that I have said I would prefer the Komets move forward without.

I think Hodgman, if his motivation is in the right place can be a 25-30 goal / 50-60 point player if he has the right talent around him. As long as people are ok with that then by all means, I'd love to see it. I just do not believe he is going to be any more than that and if fans expect him to be the "sniper" and he doesn't score 40 goals then it might not end well for him here. Even in juniors he only broke more than 30 goals once. He also hasn't been a + player too often. In Sims systems that won't fly.

As an under 25 player with around 80 games of AHL experience the Komets would be crazy not to give him an opportunity. I can't say it enough, it all depends on where his head is and what expectations fans would have of him.

Mr Snufflupugus
Wed, 08/10/2011 - 8:30pm

To finish my soap box sermon....
As I said I am with JM because I don't think it will end well if they bring him back so I'd rather he stay a legend than have his reputation ruined by overhyped expectations...but as Hit said going the other way...I'd GLADLY be proven wrong. And as I said above the K's would be crazy not to give him the opportunity.

Grumpy Smurf.

Gheesh.

Give me Hodgman!!!

Put him on the top line with Chaulk....he will score 30 goals and have 40 assists at this level. There I said it.

Why all the hate???

Hodgman on the 3rd line??? Whatever.

I love you Snuff....but come on brother. Really?
