Tailing the Komets

Ks not interested in Stauffacher, Big Snake

Komets General Manager David Franke said today the Komets are not interested in signing forward Luke Stauffacher who became an unrestricted free agent today.

``With Syro back and Woods coming back in aabout two weeks. we just don't have the room on the salary cap or the roster. Syro coming back really addressed our problem for an offensive foward. I think if Matt had not come back to Fort Wayne, then Stauffacher would have definitely have been somebody we would have gone after. We don't have room for Luke on the cap or on the roster without totaly retooling the whole team. I don't think we want to get into that deal this late in the season.''

Muskegon put Big Snake on its 45-day non-roster spot last weekend.

``In my opinion he's probably done playing professional hockey this year,'' Franke said. ``I wouldn't have any interest in him. I never really liked him as a player, and I don't think there's a role for him on our club. We have those roles taken care of.''

I guess I'm not surprised that Stauffacher ( the mystery man forward) will not be coming to Fort Wayne. He is a scorer and any team can use a scorer but I understand David Franke's reasoning. This team is loaded with forwards now ( good forwards, too ) and in order to sign Stauffacher at least one would have to go. Real, real tough call to make. I did have in the back of my mind that they might try to sign him, and then put him on one of the IR spots as he is not ready to play as yet. Look for Muskegon to make another play at him ( even though it was their qualifying offer that just expired ) because of the injuries they have had....BigSnake? He just doesn't seem to be the kind of "character" guy that the Komets like to employ..... The Komets still have one "veteran" spot open. Will they go the rest of the year without filling it? The season still has a long way to go. Barring injuries and call-ups I think Al Sims and David Franke have done a fine job putting together a club that can go a long way. ( Dammit, thats four compliments today ). I quit.

I've always been a Franke fan, and after his comments on Big Snake...I like him all the more.

I really think this is the "final" roster for the rest of the year. Franke had stated earlier in the year it would be difficult to carry 8 vets because of cap issues and such. They may look to someone later on in the year but for now I think they are very comfortable with what they have on the roster. I hope Syro can really take off...and I hope to see a Woods, Schrock, Mac line here at the end of the month. Now you know all blank could break loose with that line...I love it

That would be interesting since it was also supposed to be the ``first'' roster of the year.

that would be amazing if they do not make any more moves.

Traditionally, Al has not liked to make moves unless he absolutely has to. I still think they might go after a veteran D-man, ala Aldoff last year, if they find one they like.

Why Superfan? The defense has been no concern this year, the young guys have been awesome. I only see them targeting a veteran D-Man if someone goes down here in the next month, or they think Guy or Bert are too beat-up to make it to the playoffs. Otherwise, the Defense is set.

Last year's D finished the regular season at a +142. So far this year they are a +19. Granted, there's a long way to go yet and numbers aren't everything, but I wouldn't hesitate in solidifying the D.
