Tried looking at some other stats, too, to see what trends I could find over the last 13 games.

Been out-scored 14-11 in the first period despite out-shooting opponents 159-137. Take out the three wins and it's out-scored 11-5 and shots are 107-103 in FW's favor.

Been out-scored in the third period 14-11 despite out-shooting opponents 125-116. Three wins were pretty much even in shots and the goals were 4-3.

Power play is 15 of 83. Penalty kill is 15 of 83. Take out the three wins and it's 7 of 63 PP and 12 of 63 PK.

They have allowed at least one power-play goal in eight of the last nine games.

Over the 13 games, 31 goals for (ouch!) and 45 against, which really isn't that poor.

In 1-goal decisions they are 1-5; When they have scored first they are 0-4.

So basically, the only things going right at this point statistically are DeAngelis, Francis, Leo, Schrock, O'Connor and Warner, which basically means one unit and Leo.

Dang, lots of interesting stats to digest. Thanks for crunching the numbers, Blake.

one unit and leo. interesting. on the same note, are all the people in that unit truly contributing and playing hard or are they getting "lucky" because the rest of them are play hard? any ideas?

Blake, do the teams actually employ anyone to go back through the films and look at things like time of possession, number of checks, shot distance, shot location, bad passes, and player turnovers/screwups? These items would be very telling and easily quantifiable if someone took the time to study the game tapes and compile the information. If they don't, the Komets need to lead the way and employ a game statistician to get them some good numbers that they can analyze from game to game. From what I hear sports statisticians are becoming increasingly important in some sporting venues. Why not here?

I'm with ya there mightbite, the more snow, the merrier...

So, the thought is 3-4 players traded and/or released... Any thoughts Blake? Will there be a youth movement???

Bring Back CC........

less than impressive stats for anyone. I am sure the entire team would like to scratch this year and start over if possible..

Also, i agree with Hit. bring back CC.. not only because he is a good player and could only help, but largely because some people are getting tired of hearing it.. so bring back CC!

OMG it's so simple! So we should ditch Phillips, Rodger & Cescon & things will be hunky-dory. Too bad there's not a stat that measures grit, toughness, heart, eh? I'd take any one those 3 (especially Cescon) over any of our other D (especially the one on the "going right/keep it up" list, and I'm not talking about Frankie).

Can't believe I just wasted 2 minutes reading & commenting on this post. Thought I was over the 'other blog' for a minute.

(And by my last sentence, I mean I've come to expect more insightful posts from this blog.)

Considering the shape the team is in and all the possible courses of action that could be taken to correct it it's probably impossible to say much of anything insightful (inciteful could be done) at this point. Just guesses, speculation, and opinion.

My opinion, to repeat again, the problem is not defense, it's offense, so why the talk about gutting the defense? Help is desperately needed up front, not back on the defense.
