Less is more

A young fuddy-duddy complains that Indiana's basketball tournament has too much class, and notes that Illinois is about to make the same mistake:

The Illinois High School Association is abandoning its well-functioning two-class system to emulate our four-class one, starting in 2007-08.

The old Illinois system, which started in the early 1970s, was one that Indiana should have emulated, rather than trying an four-class system that was set up to mirror our football tournament.

But we can't just have one winner these days. That would be elitist and make everybody else feel bad. We should have a 10-class tournament!

We should just hand out trophies in lieu of uniforms and forget about playing at all.
