Let them eat pizza

"Poverty in America" update:

MUNCIE -- The sign near the door of Papa Murphy's Take 'n' Bake Pizza is subtle but noticeable.

Food stamps gladly accepted."

Blaine Ellis, the owner of local Papa Murphy's franchises, including two in Muncie, said the use of public assistance -- traditionally known as food stamps but more recently electronic balance transfer (EBT) cards -- has increased in the recession.

It's often been remarked that America's poor today are better off than even the well-off of past generations and what passes for well-off in many parts of the world today. "Food stamps for pizza" is, in its own way, a better symbol of that fact than the color TVs and cell phones the poor have in abundance.

Leo:
The MAJOR difference between "then" and "now" is that too many are "POOR" simply because THEY SAY THEY ARE (and that stems from not having all that the Joneses have, but wanting it anyway), and the government FALLS for the crocodile tears and the BS, while back in OUR day, you were POOR because you really did NOT have those two nickels to rub against one another...screw what other people had...you didn't have ANYTHING (much) but the raw basics.

Take a drive in MY area, and tell me all those NEW vehicles and BIG SCREEN TVs and gold chains are because people are "poor"...(while you stand behind them at the grocery asthey pay with the food stamps YOU provided for them).

Damn shame WE have a conscience, hmm?
But then again, WE have something called INTEGRITY, too.

And don't forget cable. They all have cable. I work in a welfare office and even though their babies are starving at least they have something good to watch on their televisions. (Me, I can't afford it.)

OMG, that's right (and FiOS to boot)...thank you so much.
I don't know what made ME forget.

And ALCOHOL...always seem to have MONEY for the LIQUOR STORE (and some "MJ" on the side).

Karla, You MUST have a SAINTHOOD in your future...to be able to work there.
